ADDED — the Rack Rail and rack track
The Rack Rail (ir:rack_rail) is made from seven iron ingots in an H, a
ladder of iron, and the recipe makes eight. It is found at the end of the track
folder in the creative menu, and typing rack in a crafting table finds it.
- A plain click on a straight rail lays rack under that rail, one rail a click, and spends one Rack Rail. The rail keeps its wood and its shape.
- A sneak-click on rack takes it up. The rail it was laid over comes back as it was, in its own wood, and the Rack Rail goes back to your inventory. A netherite line stays netherite. If nothing was written down (rack put there by
/setblock, or a world rolled back), you get iron. - Breaking rack hands back both: the rail, in its wood, and the Rack Rail.
- A second plain click on rack does nothing, and a sneak-click on plain rail never lays rack.
- Rack goes on plain straight track only. A curve, a diagonal, a bend, a junction or a turntable's deck is refused, and a message says so.
- In creative nothing is spent and nothing is handed back, as with every other gesture.
The rack block (ir:track_rack) has the same six states as a rail and is not in the menu. Its geometry is the plain rail plus a toothed bar three pixels wide down the middle. The bar is drawn on six shapes: straight, stub, the one-block climb and the three thirds of a bank. On the climb, the bar goes up in the rail's own eight steps. A curve or a tee made later against a rack block is drawn as plain rail.
ADDED — the climb
Both conditions must hold:
- It is rack. Plain rail never climbs a block in one, so v0.42.2's "a wall with rails on it" still stands for every rail without a cog.
- The climb is already started. The block behind it and one down is either the top third of a 1-in-3 bank climbing the same way, or itself a one-in-one rack climb.
So a flight of rack is joined from its foot to its top, and only the climbing blocks have to be rack. The landing at the top needs to be 1-in-3 bank to come off the cog rail and can be any rail, and the bank at the foot is a plain bank.
- A change at the foot of a flight reaches the top of it. Lay rack from the top down and nothing joins until the lowest block gets rack, then the whole flight joins at once. Take out the bank at the foot and the whole flight comes apart.
- A step that will not join says why. When the foot of a refused step is rack, the message states the reason: a rack climb starts from a bank.
ADDED — what rack does to a train
Rack changes three things:
- Adhesion is whole on rack. The cog cannot slip, so every engine puts her whole drawbar on a bank. A Rocket with a chaldron stalls on a plain iron bank (6 against 1.4) and climbs a rack bank or a rack flight.
- A one-in-one climb on rack pulls max load, twice what the train weighs, against a bank's half again. A rack train is a short train. The old one-block ramps on plain rail pull exactly what they always did.
- The line speed is 4 b/s, and rack is braked for before the train reaches it. A rack block carries its speed as a ceiling so she arrives on the rack at 4 b/s and never faster. Measured: a saddle tank coming off iron at 7.3 b/s now meets the rack at 4 b/s.
Loose wagons run away down rack. Nothing about runaways changed.
