# Doorbells — Because Minecraft Still Doesn't Have One
I'm a dad. My kids play Minecraft every day. One day my son built a house and wanted a doorbell. A doorbell. One of the most basic, obvious things you'd expect to exist in a game about building homes. It doesn't exist. No vanilla doorbell. No note block trick that sounds right. No button that plays a sound.
So I looked for an addon. Surely someone made a simple doorbell addon, right? Wrong. Either they don't exist, they're buried under bloated furniture packs, or they haven't been updated since 1.18.
This is what I do now. I make the addons that should already exist — the ones that cover such basic, common-sense functionality that you'd assume Mojang just forgot to include them. If you've ever thought "how is this not already in the game?", we're on the same page.
Here's your doorbell.
---
### What is this?
A simple, functional doorbell block for Minecraft Bedrock. Place it on a wall, press it, it rings. Press it again, it stops and rings fresh. That's it. No overcomplicated redstone setups, no command blocks, no nonsense. Just a doorbell that works.

### Features
- **Custom doorbell sound** — a real vintage doorbell ring, not a repurposed note block
- **Stop & restart** — pressing the doorbell while it's ringing stops the current sound and starts fresh, just like a real doorbell
- **Wall-mounted** — always faces the player when placed, back flush against the wall
- **Compact size** — small plate with a raised button, doesn't take up the whole block face
- **12 textures** — concrete, stone, and wood variants to match any build style
- **Breakable by hand** — no special tools needed, breaks quickly
---
### How It Works
Each doorbell is a custom block using the Script API. When you interact with it:
1. Any currently playing doorbell sound is stopped
2. A fresh doorbell ring plays from the block's position
3. Sound is spatial — you hear it louder when closer, quieter from far away
No redstone required. No player.json modification. No conflicts with other addons.
---
### Requirements
- Minecraft Bedrock Edition 1.21.0 or newer
- **Beta APIs** must be enabled in world settings under Experiments
### Installation
1. Download and open the `.mcaddon` file
2. Minecraft will import both packs automatically
3. Create or edit a world
4. Activate both the Behavior Pack and Resource Pack
5. Enable **Beta APIs** under Experiments
6. Search **"doorbell"** in the creative inventory — all 12 variants will appear
---
### Known Info
- The doorbell sound is spatial and can be heard by all nearby players
- Works in both survival and creative mode
- Block faces the player on placement for all four cardinal directions
- No player.json files are used — fully compatible with all other addons
