About
Building in Biomes is an add-on that focuses mainly on adding various materials that come with building blocks.
Instead of offering variants of already existing vanilla blocks, I decided to add new resources that you can find naturally to make blocks and gear out of them. But this is boring for most non-builder players. So, as a stratagem to increase the download count of this project I decided to add new gear and structures with challenging bosses.
As I am new to add-on making and curseforge in general, this page and the add-on is going to get improved as I get better. Feel free to comment on how I should impove the add-on, since this project is still small and I will be able to check all comments.
There isn't a defined progression to follow, and without it this add-on may be difficult to appreciate at first.
Below I reported the basics of Building in Biomes, though I recommend going in blind when playing for the first time. Guide books for starting the game and bosses can be crafted, but are HEAVY work in progress and I add stuff more quickly than I can catch up with the guidebooks. They won't be updated until DDUI comes out as stable.
Getting Started
Nothing radical has changed about the game, but you are going to notice new stuff in the overworld. Most of it is found underground, in specific biomes.
Rocks
There are two main new types of stone. Sure, diorite, granite and andesite may be annoying while mining, but the ones I added, Limestone(totally not copied off Alex's Caves c:<) and Highrock (totally not copied off Goety c:<), are found in large patches in Taigas and Mountains biomes. Whilst the latter is only used for building (in Biomes), Limestone can be also transformed in unconventional tools and converted into Siltstone, which I definitely didn't rip off Goety, which didn't rip off MCD.
Shale and Galena can't be found naturally, but are obtained through the ingots of Silver and Lead.
Minerals
When I found out about Oreganized, I though: Wait, adding Lead only to use it to spread Lead Poisoning is a great idea! While also blatantly copying the blocks' textures and concepts, I added other brain damaging stuff, including the Lead Ore which disperds dust particles upon mining.
While thinking about other ores, I came up with Asbestos (Whilst Asbestos IS in Oreganized now, my concept was a HBM NTM ripoff, so whilst I didn't come up with the idea myself, I didn't steal it from the same source), a more lethal Lead that, instead of damaging your Brain, it damages your Lungs. Every asbestos full block emanates particles that slowly give Lung Cancer.
Quick story: when I started developing the add-on, the idea was adding various biomes, then blocks based on them (ex. Chillstone). The first content was about cold biomes, so I wanted to add exclusive ores to those, since they are rarely explored. Blissfully unaware of Oreganized, I decided to add silver ore, which was a cold version of Gold with similar magical properties (Oh no I am copying Caverns and Chasms now). You cannot craft building blocks with it, but you can craft Totems, with each one granting useful effects.
Ok, I'll stop with referencing Oreganized (for now). This time, the ore is from Random Add-on. You can play that add-on, since Tin is exactly the same texture-wise. It can be used to can food, which offers the benefit of not slowing you down when eating it.
In mountain biomes, you are likely to find Jade ore. Apart from building blocks ripped off MCD there isn't much else to do with it except decoration. A crimson variant can be crafted with nether wart, and shares the same purpose.
Other Resources
The rest of basic resources can be found in Cold Biomes by slaying Chillagers (Chill Iceologers) and trading with Shady Dealers (summoned via a Kromium Horn)
Chillgem and Permafrost essence can be used to make cool (pun intended and slightly forced) weapons, and Guano can be used for blocks.
Ectoplasm is dropped from wraith mobs, and is used for bizarre blocks that are used to do fake-block shenanigans.
Other miscellanous items exist, but don't have much use, such as the Piles of Asriel's Dust.
Mechanics:
For "Mechanics", I mean 3 new reskinned crafting tables to avoid cluttering the crafting table too much.
Brewing
Since Spry Conquest stopped being worked on and thus, beverages stuff got removed, I wanted to continue my activity as a bartender in my realm. Fortunately, I recreated all of the old beverages and added new ones. To craft them, you must create a Keg, then place certain blocks under it to decide its temperature. Each one makes different beverages. You can find Grapes in savanna biomes pretty commonly. Also, I recommend trying my S. Potion!
Forging
While mining underground, you may run into Bluestone. make sure to save it for an Alloy Forge, a complex crafting table needed to access Alloys. Once placed, it will have a temperature of 0 degrees. Heat it up with Coal Blocks, Lava and Blaze rods, but keep in mind that the effect is temporary, so only do it when you need to craft!
Each alloy is used for a different thing: Bronze for decoration and tools, Steel for armor and tools, Electrum for accessories and decoration and Kromium for currency and decoration. Heavy Metal and Baleful Steel are harder to obtain, and produce mainly cool new blocks aswell.
Archaeology stuff
Buried in Savannah Ruins, this workstation can be used to create Statues and duplicate Pottery Sherds.
It also unlocks various crafting recipes that mainly consist of crafting random artifacts.
Lore:
this unfinished!1!!1!1
Basically, when the Ancient Builders were still standing, a god named Michael Bay was bored. He said: "I don't have fun if I can't make things go boom". So, he gave his power of destruction without reason to three builders. One (the Archshaman) perfected it, sealing himself in the temple and keeping it from others, but it ended up conusming his skin. The other, gave the power to one of his creations (The Weeper) and got almost killed by this rookie mistake, so he sealed the boss away in the Catacombs, and the third one went ot the Nether to beat the crap out of Piglins and Wither Skeletons, who were at war. They proclaimed themselves to be the embodiment of Justice and equalizing the forces between the two factions, using it as an excuse to blow people up.
Michael Bay was PISSED off, since he is the original mike, so he hired Heroin to blow everyone up. Obviously, the plan failed miserably, so he fused with Sans Undertale to form Sans Bay, which instead of dodging your attacks he blows them up.
Bosses:
Now, the juicy part of the Add-on. Each boss revolves around a structure, found in specific locations.
Since the structures are too big, they are generated through smaller structures that contain an Altar, which generate the structure once interacted with.
Overgrown Pyramid
The first structure I added. Found in Jungle Biomes, it resembles an Atzec-like pyramid made of Jade, Ancient Gold and Red Limestone. It is the home of the Overgrown Cult, lead by the Archshaman, boss of the structure and Michael Bay Enthusiast.
The minions drop Amulet Fragments, which can be made into an Amulet which can be taken in the inner chamber to summon the Boss. It is very destructive and spreads a lot of fire, destroying the structure as the fight goes on. This is why you should explore the temple very well, as you might miss valuable stuff and the Archshaman might destroy it. Also, you should have backup gear, because one wrong step is all it takes to get blown up and lose your stuff.
The Archshaman
Explosive Power: A Mobility: D Range: C Area of Effect: A Moveset: A Durability: B
Health: 200 Maximum Explosion: 5 Melee Damage: 6 Ranged Damage: 5-9
Skills:
- Summoning Warlocks/Skirmishers
- Teleportation
- Sudden healing to max health
- Fire Walls, have a solid hitbox and deal damage
- Meteor Showers, AKA Michael Bay's Power
- The SUN
It's important to watch out as most meteors fall from the sky. The boss can adapt to damage the lower its health is.
When hit in melee range, the boss may use a knockback roar, changing its attack.
The Fire Walls can be put out with water.
With the boss' rewards, you can make various stuff, but it's limited since the minions don't respawn. So, you can create an Altar to summon a miniboss that lets you have the boss' respawn item infinitely.
Weeping Catacomb
Found underground, the structure is a small shrine made of lapis blocks. The catacomb is a large labyrinth made of two floors. The first made of Cobblestone Tiles and the second with Gloom Tiles and filled with traps. Bringing a Wither Skeleton Skull to the Altar doesn't immediatly summon the boss, but gives you an item that lets you free the boss where you like.
The Weeper
Explosive Power: A Mobility: B Range: C Area of Effect: B Moveset: A
Durability: B
Health: 300 Maximum Explosion: 5 Melee Damage: 10-60 Ranged Damage: 2-6
Skills:
- Summoning Creepers/Sudden Cardiac Arrest
- Powerful Knockback
- Transience, only when under half health
- Various projectile attacks
- Tnt circles
- Even more powerful Knockback attack
- Time Stop (/spreadplayers)
The Weeper, Michael Bay Connoisseur, is an amalgamation between a Wither and a Creeper. It's the deadliest boss out of the three, as it has the most unforgiving attacks. It is a flying boss, so bring bow and arrow. When hit, it has a chance to knock you back and change attack mode. You never know what it'll throw at you.
You can use its reward to make various explosive gear, but farming wither skeleton skulls might be annoying so, like the Archshaman, you can craft an Altar to summon the miniboss, a mixture of a Creeper and a Wither.
Sanctuarium
The trickiest structure to find. Only seen in Soulsand Valleys, this structure is a big temple containing various chambers, along with the deadliest enemies i've ever conceived. Defeating them grants Nether Cloth, that make a Diamond Relic which can be used to summon the Champion of Justice (NOT a DR reference trust me bro), the Michael Bay Devotee. Its attacks are based on lightning, and I have conveniently placed water blocks in a nether structures to help the player with this boss. Also bring cleansing items, you won't regret it.
The Champion of Justice
Explosive Power: B Mobility: D Range: B Area of Effect: B Moveset: A
Durability: A
Health: 250 Maximum Explosion: 4 Melee Damage: N/A Ranged Damage: 3-10
Skills:
- Barrage of Electric Orbs
- Healing from Lightning Bolts
- Intentional Lag
- Teleportation, via Crazy Diamond: Red Hot Chili Pepper
- Domain Expansion
- Powerful Explosive Projectiles
- Phase 2
The Champion of Justice is very durable, and is very hard to deal with: the constant lighting bolts require some degree of fire protection. Porjectiles are a viable option, but the boss is weak to magic damage.
Once it dies, Phase 2 starts. Other than new, more impossible moves, the boss is even more resilient, and you'll need it to tire out after 5 moves in order to deal significant damage.
The boss rewards you with the Unbreakable Diamond, which might sound crazy since the equipment you can make with it is breakable. Its miniboss, the Crimson King, has been implemented, and I don't want to give a detailed description. Discover it for thyself
