MobStudio
An in-game editor for NPC attacks. Hold the Mob Studio Tool, right-click any mob and a page opens with every attack it can use. Change a hitbox, the damage, the knockback, a projectile or a leap, and the mob uses the new values on its next attack. No restart, no respawn.
When an attack feels right, save it. MobStudio writes your changes as a regular asset pack that you can copy into your own mod.
MobStudio is a tool for mod makers. It adds no gameplay content: only the editor, its items and its commands.
What you can edit
- Hitboxes. Swing arcs, thrust boxes, AOE circles and cylinders, raycasts: reach, arc, height, offsets, direction and line of sight. Angles are in degrees. You can also change a hitbox into another shape.
- Damage and knockback. Damage per damage type, random spread, damage mode, stamina drain, knockback force, direction and duration.
- When the mob attacks. Attack range, charge time, how often an attack is picked, and the conditions behind it (cooldowns, health thresholds, number of targets).
- Projectiles. Launch force, spawn position, aim, gravity and damage, with the flight path drawn in the world.
- Leaps. Force, direction, timing and landing settings, with the jump arc drawn in the world.
- Timing. How long each step of an attack lasts, and the effects it applies.
It works on vanilla mobs and on modded ones, including bosses that switch between phases.
Testing attacks
- PLAY fires the selected attack once, LOOP repeats it until you stop it. Attack conditions are skipped, so you never wait for a cooldown.
- ARM HOTBAR puts one trigger item per attack on your hotbar. Right-click a mob to fire that attack. The Exit item gives your hotbar back.
- Animate turns on the game's own
/hitdetectionview, so you see the exact area the game uses to deal damage, slice by slice, with a marker on every hit. - Previews draw the hit area, the knockback direction and the projectile or leap path. Pin a preview to compare two versions of an attack.
- Spawn a practice target to see where an attack lands.
Making new attacks
Create an attack from a template (single hit, ground slam, leap, three-hit combo, ranged shot, damage over time) or duplicate an existing one, then tune it like any other attack.
Saving and sharing
- SAVE writes your changes to an override pack in the server's data folder. It loads above the original mod, survives restarts and applies to mobs that are already in the world.
- PUSH TO MOD copies those files into your mod's folder. Rebuild the mod and the new values ship with it.
- REVERT deletes the saved changes for a mob.
- Save hitbox presets and reuse them on other attacks, or export a mob's tuned attacks as a bundle and import it later.
Scene Builder
Right-click in the air with the Mob Studio Advanced item to open the Scene Builder. Enter an empty arena that only you use, spawn the mob you want to work on and move the camera around it (front, sides, top, first person, slow orbit).
Getting started
- Put the MobStudio jar in your Hytale
Modsfolder. - Give yourself the
mobstudio.debugpermission. In a singleplayer world, being an operator is enough. - In game, run
/give MobStudio_Tool(and/give MobStudio_Advancedfor the Scene Builder). - Right-click a mob with the Mob Studio Tool.
Commands
All commands need the mobstudio.debug permission. The ones about a mob act on the mob you are looking at, up to 40 blocks away.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
