Man Down!

Death is optional. Rescue your friends, save your gear, and flop your way to survival. Because down doesn't mean dead!

Description

Man Down!

Down doesn’t mean dead.

Man Down! replaces instant death with a cooperative downed state. When lethal damage strikes, you hit the dirt instead of immediately dying, giving your friends a chance to get you back into the fight.

Or, if help isn't coming, you can accept your fate with what little dignity you have left.

Features

Cooperative Revives
Nearby players can crouch beside a downed teammate to revive them. Better yet, successful revives protect your gear from death-related durability loss!

Safe Revival — NEW!
Getting rescued shouldn't mean immediately getting flattened again! Revived players receive brief damage protection, and lingering burn, poison, and ignite effects are cleared when that protection ends.

Second chances are complimentary. Survival is not guaranteed.

Bleeding Reserves
Your remaining time becomes a visible countdown. When it runs out, so do your options.

Playing Dead
Downed players are protected from additional damage, and enemies stop attacking them. Apparently lying very still has tactical value.

Reviver Wins the Race
If a teammate starts reviving you before time runs out, they get a chance to finish—even if the clock hits zero.

The Death Flop™ — Now Optional!
Flop toward a friend, around a corner, or somewhere marginally less embarrassing. Enabled by default, because tactical flopping is half the fun.

Dignity not included.

Give Up
No rescue coming? Hold CTRL to surrender and get on with being dead.

Choose Your Loot Drop Location — NEW!
When you bleed out or Give Up, choose where your belongings drop:

RESPAWN (Default): Return to your home/respawn point before normal death, keeping your loot somewhere sensible.

  • DOWNED: Drop your loot where you originally fell, for those who prefer a proper corpse run.
  • Last Downed Marker: Your original downed location is marked on the map so you can find your way back to whatever terrible decision caused this.

Better Together — NEW!

Great adventures are better with friends. Great mods are better together.

Man Down! is part of the Better Together ecosystem, featuring optional integrations that enhance gameplay without unnecessary dependencies.

Our first integration is with Kindred v0.1.5+, bringing downed-player awareness directly to your party HUD.

With both mods installed:

  • See which teammate is DOWNED.
  • Watch their live bleed-out countdown.
  • See when teammates are revived or die.
  • Keep party health, mana, and directional indicators visible while Downed.

Better Together, never required. Both mods work independently, but they're even better as a team!

Developer Integration — NEW!

Man Down! v0.2.0 introduces a public, read-only API for other mod developers, including downed-player detection, bleed-out timers, player snapshots, and lifecycle notifications.

More possibilities for Better Together!

Configuration

Server owners can customize Man Down! through ManDown.json.

Both permissions are allowed by default:

mandown.revive — Allows players to revive others.

mandown.be_revived — Allows players to be revived.

Server administrators can restrict either permission.

Compatibility

Hytale: Tested with server version 0.7.2.

Kindred v0.1.5+: Optional Better Together integration.

Man Down! uses Hytale's normal death system. Compatibility with other mods that modify death, respawning, or item drops may vary.

Get downed. Get back up. Sometimes you just need a friend.
