Machine Blocks: Hydroponics, Fuel Cells & Questionable Engineering
The G.N.O.M.E. Institute proudly announces that the fuel chain has escaped "campfire with ambition" status and entered proper industrial irresponsibility.
New Hydroponics Planter
After extensive research and several strongly worded letters from the Farming Division, the Hydroponics Planter has been added. It automatically grows a variety of crops without requiring traditional farmland, sunlight, or conversations with vegetables. Three properly supplied planters can keep a Fuel Processor operating continuously.
To reduce maintenance interruptions, the planter now stores and manages its own hoes internally. This has reduced tool-related complaints by 97% and increased complaints about missing hoes by 312%.
Fuel Processor
Vegetables and iron can now be converted into Simple Fuel Cells. This officially marks the point where agriculture becomes a branch of engineering.
Hydrodynamic Blending Unit
The HBU now serves as the primary fuel-upgrade platform, allowing fuel cells to be refined through multiple industrial stages. Management assures us the strange noises are a feature.
Ferrocene Fuel Cell
Simple Fuel Cells can now be upgraded into Ferrocene Fuel Cells using Steel Fuel Casings and Iron Powder. The resulting cells offer significantly improved energy density while producing useful charcoal byproducts.
HSSE Fuel Cell Technology
Ferrocene Fuel Cells can be further upgraded through HSSE Fuel Casings and Thorium Powder, creating HSSE Fuel Cells. These advanced power cells provide exceptional runtime and enough stored energy to make engineers smile nervously.
Charcoal Recovery System
Advanced fuel cells now return charcoal during operation, allowing resource-conscious factory owners to recover part of their investment. The Accounting Department has described this development as "unexpectedly acceptable."
Smarter Machine Inventories
Several machines now enforce item filtering on their inventory slots. This prevents operators from inserting random objects and then submitting bug reports when a potato fails to function as industrial machinery.
The Engineering Department remains disappointed that this feature was necessary.
Visual Improvements
New machine icons have been added throughout the factory lineup, making it significantly easier to identify machines at a glance and significantly harder to accidentally build six Crushers when you needed a Furnace.
Machine Recipe Adjustments
Numerous machine recipes have been adjusted throughout the production chain. Some recipes have been simplified, others rebalanced, and several have been modified after the Engineering Department discovered that requiring half a continent's worth of resources for a single machine may have been excessive.
Final G.N.O.M.E. Assessment
Machine Blocks now features automated hydroponic crop production, self-maintaining planter tool storage, a complete industrial fuel progression system, intelligent machine inventories, improved visual identification, and enough power generation potential to concern local wildlife.
Factory expansion is strongly encouraged.
Liability waivers remain mandatory.
