Description

Dani's More Meats

Expand your hunting experience by adding lots of new meats with diverse effects! Enjoy a rebalanced early game cooking experience with almost all raw meats being dangerous to eat (only a few meats are safe to be eaten raw, like fish and crustaceans), a tiered Campfire and take advantage of more powerful food buffs for the end-game. More Meats not only adds new content but it also tweaks and balances existing content, adding 2 more tiers (IV and V) of food buffs, lowering Stamina passive regeneration - giving more purpose to Stamina-boosting foods - adding Mana boosting and regenerating foods (works great with magic mods!) and more.

Almost all of the base game changes are done with Hytalor, ensuring that the mod will be compatible with other mods that change the same base game assets.

Content

Some stuff will be tagged as a spoiler to preserve the "joy of discovery" to those that wish to find out!

Original Content (New stuff!)

The mod adds 16 new meat types:

  • Small Wildmeat (Dropped by most critters and small animals that previously dropped nothing.)
  • Big Wildmeat (Dropped by big animals like bears, restores more health than regular wildmeat.)
  • Duck (Dropped by ducks, duh!)
  • Mutton (Dropped by sheep, goats, rams and the like.)
  • Venison (Dropped by all the cervidae like deer and moose.)
  • Turkey (Dropped by… Turkeys. Merry Christmas?)
  • Whale Meat (Dropped by the whales out there! The most efficient meat for instant healing.)
  • Magic Meat (Dropped by rare and magical beings, like the snails. Very efficient Mana-boosting foods.)

These ones are slightly more special and provide some unique benefit:

  • Bird Meat (Dropped by most avian creatures, reduces fall damage by 50% when eaten!)
  • Wildsteak (Dropped by some animals that previously dropped beef, like Camels. Provides a speed buff!)
  • Bug Meat (Dropped by all sorts of bugs like spiders, Scarak and larvae. Provides a climbing speed buff (not yet implemented))
  • Crustacean Meat (Dropped by crustaceans like crabs and lobsters. Provides extra physical and projectile resistance when eaten!)
  • Frog Legs (Dropped by frogs, yummy! Provides a buff to jumping height! (not yet implemented))
  • Big Fish Meat (Dropped by really big fish, like Snapjaws. Provides a buff to Oxygen, allowing for longer dives!)
  • Shark Meat (Dropped by sharks. Provides a buff to swimming speed! (not yet implemented))
  • Monster Meat (Dropped by all sorts of monstrous creatures like goblins, trorks and the void beings. Will always poison you - even when cooked - but provides a buff to attack damage! (not yet implemented))

New Food Buffs

The mod also adds new buffs for boosting and regenerating Mana, and for regenerating Stamina. All the buffs come in 5 Tiers: I - II - III - IV - V

Restored Content  (Base game stuff)

Restored Meats

The buff adds a few assets that exist in the base game but were not used: Cooked Beef, Cooked Chicken and Cooked Pork. No longer will these raw meats become generic cooked wildmeat when you cook them!

Campfire Tiers

The base game assets also include different models for the campfire. It always intrigued me that I could have a campfire with a metal pot without needing metal… No more! You'll now have to go through 3 tiers of campfire to unlock their true potential and maximum speed and inventory capacity.

Altered Content (Base game stuff)

Models & Animations

A chunk of meat was added to the base game spitroasting campfire animation so it looks less silly!

The beef texture was tweaked to look less "wild" when compared to Wildsteak.

Some items' icons were remade to better fit with the newly added meats.

Food Buffs & Stats

Raw meats are now dangerous and will inflict different degrees of Poison when eaten. Only some raw meats can be eaten safely. All of this is appropriately displayed on their descriptions.

Most foods were slightly changed to form a better progression. Cooked foods from the end-game have received better benefits and buffs to not be overshadowed by the new meats; recipes and descriptions were updated accordingly.

The buffs themselves have been modified, standard icons have been made so you can now clearly identify if a buff boosts a stats or if it is a regeneration; the physical resistance bonus was removed from the Health Boost buffs.

Stamina Tweaks

Passive Stamina regeneration is now slightly slower, giving more value to Stamina-boosting foods.

NPC Drops

Drops for many of the game's creatures were changed. These changes are all performed through Hytalor and therefore should not interfere with other mods changing drops. They're also done in a substitution-way, where the default meat drops are replaced rather than new drops added, which means that mods that change the meat an animal drops (like the awesome Dino Meat mod) will not be overriden by this mod.

Known Issues

As you can see above - if you checked the spoilers - some of the intended "unique buffs" are not functional yet. This is because I have not found a way through an assest pack alone to modify these behaviors. I imagine that for some of the desired effects I'll have to turn the mod into a plugin, so I kindly ask a bit of time to figure out how to do that and how to get these to work.

If you have any advice or knowledge on how to achieve these effects, please comment/contact me! Any and all help are appreciated!

Future Plans

I still have some ideas for this mod, so consider it unfinished for now. In terms of content, the plans are:

  • More meats should the need arise (new creatures, etc.)
  • End-game recipes and meals that require these meats as specific ingredients.

In terms of systems and functionality, I have lots of ideas:

  • Smoking and smokehouses; improve your meats by turning them into jerky!
  • Sausage-making; turn multiple meats of the same type into highly powerful foods!
