New English Localization

Changes the English text to a new one, mostly made to fit the Japanese voice-over and the German lore texts, but mostly an personal view of mine to make for a more cohesive experience within the multimedia FFXV Universe.

What's new

VERSION 1.0

  • All main story content is covered. Some texts are made to match the JP voice-over, while keeping the English "flavor" and meaning in some sentences, while other ones were needed new original text (not based on any language) made for the sake of continuity within the multimedia FFXV Universe.
  • An special care for Lunafreya and Noctis scenes and relationship was made, specially with the flashbacks and the notebook.
  • Lots of flashbacks mix JP-based text with the unused original text, specially the scenes with Ravus and Lunafreya.
  • Covered all Prompto's Photo Ops to match JP voice-over.
  • Cindy, Cid, Vyv, Dave, Sania, Coctura, Galdin's cat, Navyth, Melusine, Sylvester's map, Lestallum's market, Holly, and all the bros tours are covered to match the JP voice-over. Some of the Cid's sidequest lines and minor banters-inside-quests may still use the original English translation, but I'll eventually cover everything. In short, almost 100% of the sidequests are covered.
  • All radio broadcasts have been covered to match JP voice-over, making small adjustments for the sake of continuity within the multimedia FFXV Universe.
  • Adamantoise hunt is covered to match JP voice-over.
  • All in-game mentions of "Cindy" and "Ezma" was changed to "Cidney" and "Izania" respectively.
  • Cut all the English terms of the Astrals/Hexatheon for the sake of matching JP voice-over and German text. I may create a new optional version later retaining those terminologies since they fit the context of the game's universe and are used in official subtitles within the FFXV Universe. But in the meantime, only "the six" or "six gods" are used in reference to the Astrals, and the names like "Archaean" and "Fulgurian" doesn't exist anymore.
  • Changed all mentions of "Star" in the context of the game's world. "Stars" are still used for celestial beings and/or in religious context (e.g. Luna praying for the stars to heal Noctis).
  • "Astral War" and "War of the Astrals" are changed to "Magi Great War", one of the thousands translations you can make of the original JP name "魔大戦". I may change to another name in the future (e.g. Great War of Old) since I don't like "Magi Great War" that much, but it was chosen as an homage of FFVI's "War of the Magi".
  • "Astralsphere" and "Daemonsphere" changed to "Ability Call".
  • "Imperial High Commander Ravus" to "Imperial General Ravus"/"General Ravus" due to Kingsglaive's Glauca military rank.
  • "Holy Stone" to "Sacred Stone".
  • Ignis, Gentiana, Cid and Cindy may sound different from their English counterparts due to translation and adaptation of the JP text in comparison to the English one. While I tried to keep Cid and Cindy's personalities, I made their lines "less stereotyped" and more easy to read for a subtitle, but I may not have covered everything. However, Ignis does in fact have a different take in the JP localization, being less of a "british buttler" stereotype and more like the responsible "mom" of the group (e.g. he doesn't call Noctis "Highness" or "Prince" except in very specific situations, and his language isn't as formal as the English take, using less of "indeed" and turning into a character with a "dry humor"). Gentiana, while has an extremely distinct way to speak, does behave "normally" to Luna, calling her by her name instead of "the girl" or "the Oracle".
  • Cosmogony is temporarily translated in an original German-based text by me, but a new one will be provided soon by "TheVoyager".
  • Some loading screens have been changed to match German text, but the majority has not been covered yet.
  • Lore Guide texts were remade from scratch to become easier for new players to understand the world and for veterans to enjoy reading the easter eggs and connections to the FFXV mythos outside the main game.
  • New writting pattern with more cohesive and friendly-to-read texts, terminologies, terms, titles, and language in general. One of the examples are the use of "Great War" in reference of Lucis/Nilfheim conflict thirty years before the main game, or "an era of myth" in reference of the time were Solheim still existed and the gods weren't in deep slumber.
  • Added lots of connections to Kingsglaive and other FFXV Universe medias during cutscenes and dialogues.
  • Lots of banters convered to match JP voice-over.
  • And a lot of content that I don't even remember, made when messing with Cindy Text Editor.

YET TO BE COVERED BY ME

Things that I plan to cover and/or revise in the near future. Some of the items in this list can break your immersion (e.g. Ignis character) or contain lack of writting pattern to my text. Also, grammar errors from the previous mod by "yu_eriyama", "TheBox" and "FFXVT00L" can be found here.

  • Lots of main story dialogues had been already translated in the older mod by "yu_eriyama", "TheBox" and "FFXVT00L" that I didn't covered or revise yet. While I'll eventually check and probably change everything they already made, credits for the "base" of this translation goes to them.
  • Bestiary and dossiers are mostly untouched, except for the changes mentioned above (e.g. Cindy to Cidney, removal of the Astrals/Hexatheon terms, etc). I plan to use the German text as the source of the bestiary and dossiers in the future.
  • Loading screens that are not yet covered will also be in the future with the German text as the source.
  • Newspapper articles and news will eventually be covered if needed.
  • Cup Noodles quest not covered yet.
  • Lots of banters been already translated in the older mod by "yu_eriyama", "TheBox" and "FFXVT00L".
  • Lots of sidequests have been already translated by "yu_eriyama", "TheBox" and "FFXVT00L" in their older mod. However, they did cover only about half of each quest line (e.g. Cindy's sidequests returns to the original English text in the second or third mission, taking the immersion away from the player), and they didn't translated every quest line (Vyv and Holly's sidequests, for example, weren't even touched by them). While I checked their work, I didn't change much of the sidequests they already covered because my priority was finishing the quest lines that remained untouched.
  • Still didn't covered the DLCs. The old mod by "yu_eriyama", "TheBox" and "FFXVT00L" already covers the main dialogues for the DLCs, although not of them (Comrades apparently is not covered at all). So for EP Ignis, Prompto and Gladiolus, you can still experience their translation, but I'll eventually change most of it in the future.
  • Special hunts like zu and all the dungeons aren't covered yet and may still use the original English text.

WILL NEVER BE COVERED BY ME

  • Prompto and the bros comments on the photos have already been translated by "yu_eriyama", "TheBox" and "FFXVT00L" old mod. I will leave it as it is.
  • Festivals and demo texts aren't necessarily covered. I did changed some of the Moggle-Chocobo Carnival text, but I don't think it can be applied to Kizari's mod. If a mod restoring the Assassin's Festival and the demos is to be made, I can try to translate them in the future. But I don't think this will be happening.
  • Item, weapons, food, and other minor descriptions are not covered by me and probably still with the original English text. I will cover only the ones that may need, but will keep them intact for the most part.
