Description

CosmeticThrall NPC

CosmeticThrall is a customizable companion Thrall mod for ARK: Survival Ascended, based on the Thrall NPC from the Lost Colony DLC.

The mod originally started as a Thrall that could use cosmetic skins, but it has grown into a companion-style Thrall system with cosmetic support, behavior modes, patrol features, dino-related interactions, hair customization, and several quality-of-life options.

This mod is still in active development. Features may change over time, and occasional issues may occur as new systems are added.

How to Summon

Craft and use the CosmeticThrall summon item.

Before using the item, check its description. The item will automatically scan nearby tribe-owned dinos and display the base stats of the highest-level one found.

The summoned Thrall will mirror those stats. Player level has no effect on the result.

Main Features

Cosmetic Support

Cosmetic skin items can be applied to the Thrall.

Armor and shields can be equipped directly from the Thrall's inventory. Weapons must be equipped separately while in possession mode.

CosThrallConfig Wheel Menu

CosmeticThrall has a dedicated wheel icon menu called CosThrallConfig.

Use this menu to access feature toggles, behavior settings, and other CosmeticThrall-specific options.

Hair Customization

A dedicated Hair Customization UI allows you to change the Thrall's hairstyle, hair length, and hair color.

Skin color adjustment is also available as an experimental feature. Results may vary depending on the selected skin, materials, and lighting.

Companion Behavior Features

Guard Mode

Guard Mode replaces the previous Turret Mode behavior.

When Guard Mode is enabled, the Thrall will fight wild dinos or hostile targets, then return to its original position and facing direction after combat.

Guard Mode also works while the Thrall is mounted on a dino.

Patrol Mode

Use Add Patrol WayPoint to place patrol points. The Thrall will move through the saved waypoints in order and loop the route.

Use Clear Patrol WayPoints to remove all saved patrol points.

Waypoints can also be placed while possessing the Thrall. During possession, the same patrol controls are available from your own wheel icon menu.

Patrol Mode also works while the Thrall is mounted on a dino.

Auto-Teleport Follow

If the Thrall loses its path or falls too far behind, it will automatically teleport to catch up.

The teleport sound and effect can be toggled from the CosThrallConfig menu.

Weapon Equip Toggle

This option controls whether the Thrall stays armed at all times.

When enabled, the Thrall will remain armed in Follow, Guard, and Patrol modes.

Harvest Mode and Hauling Mode are excluded.

Dino Interaction Features

Passenger Seat

The Thrall can be seated in a dino's passenger seat.

Select the desired seat from the Thrall's wheel menu.

Dino Control

When the Thrall is riding a dino, that dino gains a dedicated wheel menu option for controlling the Thrall.

This allows you to access Thrall-related controls through the wheel menu of the dino the Thrall is currently riding.

This feature is designed to work together with the Passenger Seat system.

Mounted AI Behavior

The Thrall functions with proper AI behavior while mounted on a dino.

Mounted Turret Mode

When the Thrall is mounted on a dino, Turret Mode is available from the dino behavior tab.

Ride Dino Behavior Sharing

When the Thrall is mounted on a dino, behavior wheel settings are automatically synchronized between the Thrall and the mounted dino.

Synchronized settings include:

  • Follow target
  • Follow distance
  • Aggression level
  • AI targeting range
  • Ignore whistles
  • Ignore ally look
  • Turret Mode

Additional Options

The CosThrallConfig menu also includes several optional toggles:

  • Thrall mode icon toggle
  • Auto-teleport follow sound/effect toggle
  • Gender swap toggle

Additional Improvements

  • Hauling Mode now works correctly in situations where crafting slots overflow, such as with campfires.
  • The Thrall can now properly use Wandering behavior.
  • When the player performs an emote near a CosmeticThrall, the Thrall will try to mimic that emote.

How to Change Weapons

Possess the Thrall, then place a weapon item in quickslot 9.

After that, unpossess the Thrall to apply the weapon change.

The Thrall will swap to the matching weapon class while keeping its name, stats, and inventory intact.
