What's new

1.14

  • Added compatibility with the World of Warcraft: Forever beta (Interface 16001), alongside the existing Retail interface - one package now loads on either client. Forever's beta build is confirmed to run on the actual Retail/Mainline codebase underneath (same modern APIs XP Splash already uses), so no functional rewrite was needed.
  • Event registration is now wrapped defensively: on this beta build, registering an event the client doesn't recognize has been observed to throw and abort the whole addon file, so one unexpected/renamed event can no longer take the rest of the addon down with it.
  • Known beta limitation, not fixable from this addon's side: as of the Sept 17, 2026 beta build, the client does not appear to reload SavedVariables on login/reload, so settings may not persist between sessions until Blizzard addresses it. Everything still works within a session; it just resets to defaults on relaunch for now.

1.13

  • Fixed: the splash could fade in and then vanish mid-session, before you were really done fighting. Brief gaps between engagements (e.g. the couple seconds between clearing one pull and reaching the next) can momentarily register as "out of combat," which was making the addon treat that as a real combat end - discarding the pending total and letting the fade-out run to completion. Combat now has to stay clear for 2 seconds before it's treated as truly over; a new fight within that window cancels it and the splash keeps holding.

1.12

  • Fixed: the splash wasn't appearing when the threshold was actually crossed during combat, only once combat ended. PLAYER_XP_UPDATE appears to fire inconsistently around kills (including not promptly while in combat), so the addon now also polls XP a couple times a second while you're in combat instead of relying solely on that event. Threshold crossings should now show up in near-real-time during a fight rather than all at once when it ends.

1.11

  • New "Hold until combat ends" option: once the splash is showing, it now stays fully visible for as long as you're in combat, and only starts its hold/fade-out countdown once combat actually ends. Re-entering combat mid-fade snaps it back solid and waits again. On by default.
  • Settings are back inside Blizzard's actual Settings window (Esc → Options → AddOns → XP Splash) instead of a separate popup, using a canvas category so it's real native integration rather than a lookalike. The Test button is pinned at the top and never scrolls away; everything else scrolls in a normal ScrollFrame below it.
  • Removed the standalone config window and its "Open" stub button from 1.9/1.10 - no longer needed now that the real thing lives natively in Settings.

1.10

  • Sub-threshold XP gains during combat now silently build up until their total crosses your trigger threshold, instead of being ignored individually — useful for AoE/trash grinding where no single kill alone reaches the threshold. If combat ends before the total crosses the line, it's discarded rather than carried into whatever you do next.
  • New "Accumulate in combat" checkbox in the settings panel to turn this off and go back to the original single-gain-only trigger.

1.9

  • Replaced the settings panel with a hand-built, compact 2-column window instead of Blizzard's native Settings list, which had fixed spacing between rows and required scrolling to see everything. Open it with /xpsplash config or Esc → Options → AddOns → XP Splash → Open.
  • Combined the two separate "Edit" buttons for the top/bottom lines into a single "Edit Text" button that edits both at once.
  • The font, text size, color, and edit-text controls are all still there, just laid out more densely.

1.8

  • Rapid, back-to-back XP gains no longer overwrite each other — additional qualifying gains that arrive while the splash is still on screen now add to a running total and reset the hold/fade-out countdown, instead of the newest one replacing the previous display outright
  • The gain/remaining line's font size can now scale up to 60, matching the top line's range, instead of being capped at 30

1.7

  • Added {pctComplete} and {pctCompleteInt} placeholders showing your current standing in the level after a gain, distinct from {pctOfLevel} which shows the size of that one gain
  • Rewrote the hint text inside the text-edit popup to explain what each placeholder means in plain language, instead of just listing names

1.6

  • Added {pctOfLevelInt} and {pctToNextInt} placeholders — whole-number versions of the existing percentage placeholders, for cleaner text without decimals

1.5

  • Fixed: clicking Save in the text-edit popup did nothing (window wouldn't close, text wouldn't save)
  • Replaced the built-in popup system with a self-built one that renders above everything, including the Settings window, so it can no longer end up unreachable

1.4

  • Fixed: clicking Move was unusable because the Settings window covered the splash and blocked dragging
  • Move now closes the Settings window automatically, shows a visible drag target with an on-screen "Save Position" button, and reopens Settings afterward

1.3

  • Splash text on both lines is now fully custom, using placeholders: {xp} {pctOfLevel} {pctToNext} {level}
  • Added font selection (4 built-in typefaces), independent font size per line, and a color picker for each line
  • Replaced the fixed vertical-offset slider with free-form drag-to-position — unlock, drag anywhere on screen, lock in place

1.2

  • Added a Test/Preview button directly in the settings panel

1.1

  • Added an in-game settings panel (Esc → Options → AddOns → XP Splash, or /xpsplash config) with sliders and a checkbox for threshold, timing, and sound

1.0

  • Initial release
  • Monitors XP gains and shows a fading splash banner when a single gain exceeds a configurable threshold (default 5%) of the current level's XP
  • Configurable fade in / hold / fade out timing and optional sound alert
  • Slash commands: /xpsplash test, threshold, sound, status
