Description

Xiion’s Cooldown Sound Manager (XCSM) expands World of Warcraft’s built-in Cooldown Manager with powerful, customizable sound alerts while keeping everything integrated directly into Blizzard’s native interface.

XCSM is built for players who want more control over cooldown audio without replacing the Cooldown Manager itself.

Updated for World of Warcraft Retail 12.1, XCSM 1.3 features a redesigned combat-safe sound system built around WoW’s new protected and secret Cooldown Manager values.

Features

  • Native Cooldown Manager Integration
Configure XCSM sounds directly from Blizzard’s existing Cooldown Manager Sound Type interface.

  • SharedMedia Support
Use sounds registered through LibSharedMedia and other addons.

  • Searchable SharedMedia Browser
Have hundreds or thousands of SharedMedia sounds? XCSM includes a dedicated searchable sound browser so you can instantly filter your library instead of scrolling through a massive menu.

  • Sound Preview
Preview SharedMedia and Custom sounds before assigning them.

  • Custom Sounds
Add your own sound sources using SoundKit IDs, FileData IDs, or valid sound-file paths.

  • Text to Speech
Blizzard’s native Text to Speech alert options remain available.

  • Blizzard Sound Library
Continue using Blizzard’s built-in sound categories including Instruments, Animals, Impacts, Devices, Warcraft sounds, and more.

  • Sound Channel Selection
Choose which audio channel XCSM uses, including Master, SFX, Music, Ambience, Dialog, and Talking Head.

  • Per-Specialization Assignments
Different specializations can maintain their own XCSM cooldown sound setups.

  • Blizzard-Style UI
XCSM uses Blizzard-native styling so it feels like part of the game rather than a separate configuration system.

  • WoW 12.1 Combat-Safe Runtime
XCSM Custom and SharedMedia assignments are stored separately from Blizzard’s protected Cooldown Manager alert data.

SharedMedia Search

Large SharedMedia libraries can contain hundreds or even thousands of sounds, making traditional scrolling menus difficult to navigate.

XCSM solves this with a dedicated searchable sound browser.

Open a Cooldown Manager Sound Alert and select:

Sound Type → Search SharedMedia...

Start typing and XCSM filters your SharedMedia library in real time.

You can preview a result before selecting it, or click the sound to assign it immediately.

The traditional XCSM SharedMedia submenu is also available if you prefer browsing.

Important: XCSM Sounds Save Immediately

Beginning with XCSM 1.3, selecting an XCSM Custom or XCSM SharedMedia sound saves the assignment immediately.

You do not need to press Blizzard’s Add Alert button afterward.

Blizzard’s Add Alert button remains for Blizzard-native sounds and Text to Speech alerts.

For an XCSM sound:

Choose the event → Open Sound Type → Select your XCSM sound → Done

You can close Blizzard’s alert editor after selecting the XCSM sound.

WoW 12.1 Combat Safety

World of Warcraft 12.1 introduced additional protected and secret values throughout the Cooldown Manager.

XCSM 1.3 was redesigned so Custom and SharedMedia assignments no longer store custom payloads inside Blizzard’s alert tables.

Cooldown-ready monitoring is handled independently by XCSM without reading protected cooldown start times or durations.

This allows XCSM sounds to function during combat without interfering with Blizzard’s Cooldown Viewer processing.

Slash Commands

/xcsm
Opens XCSM settings.

/xcsm test
Tests the first saved XCSM sound assignment for your current specialization.

/xcsm status
Shows how many XCSM assignments are saved for your current specialization.

/xcsm repair
Migrates legacy XCSM 1.1.x Custom/SharedMedia alerts into the new combat-safe assignment system.

Updating From XCSM 1.1.x

If you previously used Custom or SharedMedia alerts with XCSM 1.1.x, run:

/xcsm repair

Run this command while out of combat.

XCSM will look for legacy custom alert payloads, migrate them into the current XCSM system, clean the old alert entries, and reload the UI if necessary.

Users upgrading from XCSM 1.2.x should normally retain their existing XCSM assignments automatically.

FAQ

Do I press Blizzard’s Add Alert button after selecting an XCSM sound?

No.

XCSM Custom and SharedMedia sounds save immediately when selected.

Use Blizzard’s Add Alert button only when creating a Blizzard-native sound or Text to Speech alert.

My sound works when I preview it but does not trigger. What should I check?

Run:

/xcsm status

Confirm that XCSM shows at least one saved assignment for your current specialization.

Then run:

/xcsm test

If the test plays correctly, the sound source itself is working.

Also make sure you assigned the sound to the correct Cooldown Manager event.

If you previously used XCSM 1.1.x, run /xcsm repair while out of combat.

Will my existing sounds disappear when updating?

Your Custom sound library remains stored in XCSM.

Assignments created using XCSM 1.2.x should also carry forward.

Legacy 1.1.x Custom/SharedMedia alerts can be migrated with /xcsm repair.

Are sound assignments shared between specializations?

No.

XCSM keeps cooldown assignments separated by specialization so each spec can have its own sound setup.

Does XCSM require LibSharedMedia?

No.

LibSharedMedia is only required if you want to use SharedMedia sounds.

XCSM Custom sounds work independently.

What can I use as a Custom Sound source?

XCSM supports:

SoundKit IDs
FileData IDs
Valid sound-file paths

Use XCSM’s Preview control to verify a sound before assigning it.

Can I use one Custom Sound for multiple cooldowns?

Yes.

The same saved sound can be assigned to as many Cooldown Manager events as you want.

Compatibility

Designed for World of Warcraft Retail 12.1 and Blizzard’s current Cooldown Manager system.

XCSM enhances the native Cooldown Manager rather than replacing it.

Why XCSM?

Cooldown information doesn’t always need another icon on your screen.

Sometimes you just need to hear it.

XCSM turns Blizzard’s Cooldown Manager into a customizable audio notification system while keeping your UI clean.
