What's new

Xal's Quest Compass - Changelog

1.9.0 - September 29, 2026

Realized the old look was reading too blocky once I actually sat down and looked at it, so I've been going through and redoing the whole family's visual style - this addon's turn this time. Found a few other things worth fixing along the way too, so this update ended up covering more ground than just the color swap. Thanks for being a part of the Xal family.

πŸ†• New

  • Added a Discord link to the What's New splash and the main settings window.

πŸ”§ Fixed

  • New look throughout: titles, the header divider under them, and a selected settings-sidebar link are now a dark brick red instead of orange; every other divider and panel border is now a near-black indigo instead of orange. Buttons switched from the old boxed style to plain text links.
  • Fixed a couple of settings-window details that were still using the old colors after the initial pass: the "Automation" section divider, and the left-side section list (which was also bumped up in text size for readability).
  • Fixed the minimized floating icon getting stuck showing a quest from a zone you'd already left - it now checks itself every second instead of only updating when a quest-log or zone-change event happened to fire.

1.8.0 - September 12, 2026

When I first brought Quest Compass over to the new visual style I've been rolling out across all my addons, I got it live and took a second look and realized I'd been short-sighted about it - it still felt boxy, obtrusive, not actually what I wanted. So this update is me going back through and pushing things toward something genuinely minimal. You still get all the same control over how it behaves, but the whole lineup of my addons should end up taking a lot less of your screen than they used to. Hope you like where this is heading as much as I do. Thanks for being a part of the Xal family.

πŸ†• New

  • New default minimized style: a small floating icon instead of the bar. Dark and out of the way when nothing's ready, glows the moment a quest is, and hovering it shows exactly what's waiting - click it to jump straight into the full window. The bar is still available as an option in settings, along with an icon size slider and precise X/Y position controls.
  • Added Cinzel Bold and Inter Regular (the fonts from the recent redesign) as choices in the Font settings.

πŸ”§ Fixed

  • Replaced the Font and Font Outline dropdown menus with a properly styled one matching the rest of the addon.
  • The Blizzard AddOns-list settings page is now a short welcome page with an "Open Settings" button instead of a second full copy of every setting.

1.7.1 - September 3, 2026

Right after the redesign went out, I logged in and caught the minimized bar tracking a quest that wasn't even in my zone. Honestly not sure if that's a fresh bug from the redesign or something that's been lurking this whole time and I just never noticed it - either way, it took a few real attempts to actually run it down, but I'm confident it's fixed now. While I was in there I also gave the ready-count number its own color so it actually stands out next to the header instead of blending in. Thanks for sticking with Quest Compass - appreciate every one of you.

πŸ”§ Fixed

  • The zone-only filter could still show a quest from a completely different zone in some cases - it now only ever shows quests it can actually confirm are in your current zone.
  • The minimized bar could get stuck showing "1/0 ready" and never disappear once the last ready quest left your zone. It now hides itself the moment nothing's ready, and pops back up on its own the moment something is.
  • Changed the minimized bar's ready count to the shaman class blue so it stands out next to the title instead of blending in.

1.7.0 - September 2, 2026

I sat down to give Quest Compass the same look I've been rolling out across the family, and once I saw it running I realized the old bordered window just wasn't it anymore - too boxy, too much stuff sitting between you and the actual quest info. So I stripped it down: no border, no background box, just the quest text floating cleanly over the game world in the new orange-and-indigo look. Each ready quest gets its own soft-fading row now instead of the old striped list, and clicking the title itself minimizes the window - no more hunting for a tiny +/- button. While I had things open I also caught a couple of real annoyances: Navigate wasn't turning itself back off when you clicked it a second time, and the on-screen tracking arrow could silently fail to clear. Both fixed. Thanks for sticking with Quest Compass through the redesign - appreciate every one of you.

πŸ†• New

  • Redesigned the quest window in the new deep-orange-and-indigo look, with no border or background box - just floating text over the game world.
  • Ready quests now show as clean, borderless rows with a soft fade instead of the old striped list.
  • Click the window's title to minimize/expand it - the separate +/- button is gone.

πŸ”§ Fixed

  • Clicking Navigate a second time on a quest you were already navigating to now actually turns navigation off.
  • Fixed the on-screen tracking arrow sometimes silently failing to clear.
  • Fixed the minimized bar's ready count occasionally overlapping the Close button.
  • Fixed a couple of settings-window checkbox display issues (a section header overlapping a checkbox, and a checkbox's left border getting clipped).

1.6.1 - September 1, 2026

Caught myself getting annoyed at my own addon the other day - the minimized bar kept popping up on my screen even when there was nothing sitting ready to turn in anywhere near me. That's backwards from the whole idea. This thing is supposed to save you a glance at your quest log, not become one more window you have to shove out of the way because it showed up uninvited. So I went and fixed it at the root instead of just papering over it - it should only ever show up now when there's actually something worth turning in wherever you are. Here's hoping it finally leaves you alone until it's actually supposed to. Thanks for sticking with Quest Compass - appreciate every one of you.

πŸ”§ Fixed

  • The minimized bar could pop up over a quest that wasn't even in your current zone, then just sit there showing nothing to turn in. It's now driven by the same zone-filtered list the window itself displays, so it only shows up for quests actually ready where you are.

1.6.0 - August 14, 2026

Auto-Show popping the full window open in the middle of whatever you were doing was more obtrusive than useful, so this update adds a minimize toggle - when a quest becomes ready on its own, you now get a small, unobtrusive bar instead of the whole window taking over, and you click to expand it when you're ready. Also added an in-game hint for something that changed a couple versions back with zero indication anywhere: holding Shift is what moves the window now, not a plain drag. Thanks for sticking with Quest Compass - appreciate every one of you.

πŸ†• New

  • Minimize/expand toggle - collapses the main window down to a small bar showing your ready count. Auto-Show now always pops up minimized instead of opening the full window; opening it yourself (minimap button, slash command) keeps whatever state you last left it in.

πŸ”§ Fixed

  • Hovering the main window now shows a tooltip explaining Shift+drag moves it - this changed in a previous version with nothing in-game telling you.

1.5.0 - August 14, 2026

I've been slowly bringing every one of my addons onto the same look, and this pass is Quest Compass's turn - buttons across the whole addon are now clean text links instead of boxed buttons (matching Reins and Compendium), and it's got the same background art the rest of the family is using now. While I was in there I also added two things you all asked for: reward icons in the hover preview instead of just item names, and a warning when a ready daily or weekly is about to reset before you get to it. Thanks for sticking with Quest Compass while it keeps growing - appreciate every one of you.

πŸ†• New

  • Reward preview icons - hovering a quest now shows the actual item icon next to each reward, not just the name.
  • Reset warnings - a ready daily or weekly quest now shows a warning once it's under an hour from resetting, so it doesn't quietly slip away before you get to it.

🎨 Visual

  • Buttons across the whole addon are now clean text links instead of boxed buttons - the settings window's close button, its sidebar tabs, and the Skip/Cancel route buttons.
  • Added the shared background art (the same one Reins and Compendium use) to the main window and settings window.

1.4.0 - August 13, 2026

I've been wanting Quest Compass's main window to actually look like it belongs with the rest of what I build instead of a thrown-together boxed list, so this update rebuilds it top to bottom - one quest at a time instead of a wall of them, our own fonts instead of stock ones, and a cleaner layout that matches what I'd mocked up for it. Also tracked down and fixed an annoying one: if you run more than one of my addons, their windows could pop open stacked right on top of each other - that's sorted now too.

πŸ†• New

  • Redesigned main window - shows the single closest ready quest instead of a scrolling list. Scroll your mouse wheel over it to browse the others; Track and Navigate act on whichever quest is currently shown.
  • Merged header line - now reads "1 / 5 ready to turn in", with a scroll hint when there's more than one.
  • Zone shown in brackets under the quest's title.
  • Actions menu - Navigate to Nearest, Track All, Route All, Untrack All, and the zone filter now live in a dropdown opened from the chevron in the corner, instead of crowding the window itself.
  • New brand fonts - Simply Sans Bold for headers, Fira Sans Medium for body text, across the main window and settings.

πŸ”§ Fixed

  • A ready quest's zone and distance could sometimes show blank - both now reliably fall back to a sensible value instead of leaving empty space.
  • Quest Compass's windows no longer spawn stacked on top of other Xal's addons' windows - each one starts in its own spot and remembers exactly where you drag it.

βš™οΈ Under the hood

  • Main window now sizes itself to fit its content instead of leaving dead space; still resizable via the corner grip, but now moves via Shift+drag so it doesn't fight with scrolling the quest area or clicking its buttons.
  • Every floating window now raises itself to the front when clicked, so it's never left feeling stuck behind another one.

1.3.0 - August 11, 2026

This one's mostly about how Quest Compass actually looks and feels, not new mechanics. I wanted it to stop looking like a stock, thrown-together addon and actually match the rest of what I build - so the whole options window got rebuilt from scratch with real sections instead of one long list, plus real color pickers, a new minimap icon, and an adjustable window scale. I also snuck in an experimental option for ElvUI users - it's new and not widely tested yet, so if something looks off with it on, let me know.

πŸ†• New

  • Redesigned Options window - a real standalone window with sections (Home, Behavior, Automation, Font, Display) instead of one long settings list, matching the look of Xal's other addons.
  • Font Color and Text Shadow color pickers - click a swatch to pick a custom color for either, or use your class color for the font.
  • UI Scaling - adjust the whole window's size from the new Display section.
  • ElvUI Skinning (Experimental) - if you use ElvUI, an opt-in toggle in Display lets the main quest window defer to ElvUI's own look instead. Off by default, requires ElvUI installed, applies on /reload. New and lightly tested - feedback welcome.
  • New minimap icon - an owl gripping a compass, replacing the old design.
  • Sliders now show their current value live as you drag them.

πŸ”§ Improved

  • Footer buttons (Route All, Track All, Untrack All, Navigate to Nearest) no longer crowd or overlap each other.
  • The Font section's scrollbar now only appears when there's actually more content than fits.

πŸ› Fixed

  • Fixed an error that could break the Options window entirely on the current game patch (an old Blizzard function the addon relied on was removed).

1.2.0 - August 8, 2026

Route All: one click plans and walks you through every quest you have ready to turn in.

πŸ†• New

  • Route All - computes an efficient multi-stop route through every quest ready to turn in, across every zone, and walks you through it. A live "Stop X/Y" readout with Skip and Cancel replaces the button while a route is active, and it auto-advances as you turn quests in. If an NPC has more than one of your ready quests, one visit clears all of them.
  • On Retail, Route All covers every zone and continent. On Classic, it routes what's locatable in your current zone right now - click it again after traveling to pick up more.

1.1.1 - August 7, 2026

Reward previews, an optional ready sound, two new opt-in automation features, a couple of bug fixes, and support for MoP Classic and Classic Era.

πŸ†• New

  • Reward preview - hover any quest in the list to see what it gives before you turn it in: money, guaranteed items, and any reward choices.
  • Ready sound - an optional chime when a quest becomes ready to turn in. Off by default.
  • Auto turn-in - automatically completes quests that don't require you to choose between rewards. Anything with a real choice to make, or that costs you money, is always left open so you can handle it yourself. Off by default.
  • Auto accept - automatically accepts new quests offered by NPCs. A few quest types (escort, item-start, PvP-flagged) are always skipped and left for you, since they need special handling. Off by default.
  • MoP Classic and Classic Era support - the addon now works on both Classic flavors, loading automatically alongside the existing Retail version. Distance and navigation are limited to your current zone on Classic (no precise cross-zone distance there), but detection, tracking, reward previews, and navigation all work.

πŸ› Fixed

  • Navigate no longer opens TomTom's options menu instead of setting a waypoint - it now points TomTom's arrow (or the built-in on-screen arrow, if TomTom isn't installed) straight at the quest turn-in.
  • Fixed non-quest things (like Renown reward-track notifications) showing up in the ready-to-turn-in list as if they were real quests.
  • Updated for the 12.1.0 game patch, so the addon no longer shows as "Out of Date".

πŸ”§ Improved

  • Holding Shift now pauses both auto turn-in and auto accept, instantly, at any time.
  • All buttons (Track, Navigate, and the footer actions) now look like real buttons instead of plain clickable text, so they're much easier to spot.
  • The Options window now scrolls, so nothing ever gets cut off as more settings are added.
  • New installs now default to: All Zones shown, the window auto-opening when a quest becomes ready, and a smaller starting window scale. All still adjustable in Options.
