WowTerm

Unlisted
A terminal/command-line interface for WoW.

WowTerm

WowTerm is a small console you open inside the game. You type a command and it prints the answer as a table. You can pass that result on to another command with |, the way a shell does.

example

Open it with /wt. Type help to see every command. You can also bind a key to it under Options > AddOns > WowTerm, or in the game's key bindings.

A few things to try

bag | where quality >= rare your blue and purple items
alt every character you've played, with their gold
alt item Runecloth which of your characters has it
help junk the commands that deal with junk
bag --help what a command takes, with examples

None of these change anything. They only show you things.

Letting it do things for you

hook merchant "sell; repair" sell greys and repair every time you open a vendor
restock "Sacred Candle" 20 keep 20 candles; restock at a vendor buys what's missing

When you type them yourself, commands that destroy items, sell anything that isn't grey, buy, or send mail show what they're about to do and wait for a yes. A hook runs its line without asking, since you set it up.

Once you get the hang of it

Every command takes the same filters, every hook can look at the game before it acts, and you can chain as many steps as you like. So you can get very specific. This one accepts a resurrection, but only from someone with "Roger" in their name, only inside Razorfen, only if you have at least 5 gold on you and 4 free bag slots, and only after a polite 2 second pause:

hook resurrect "where name ~ roger and $instance.name ~ Razorfen and $gold >= 5g and $bagfree >= 4 | sleep 2s | request --accept"

Anyone else's resurrection is left alone, and the game's own window stays up for you. You probably don't need that exact rule, but you can write the one you do want.

Typing

  • Suggestions come up as you type: commands, items, spells, mounts, players, fields. Tab takes one, Enter runs what you see.
  • Mistype something and it underlines the word and offers the fix.
  • where, sort, take, count, sum and group work on any list.
  • calc does math and understands gold, so calc 25g * 4 gives you 100g.
  • Up arrow and Ctrl+R bring back what you typed before.
  • Shift-click an item, spell or quest to put its name on the line.
  • export gives you the output as plain text to copy.

What's in it

  • Bags, bank and mail: list them, move items between bag and bank, take and send mail, sell junk, buy, restock.
  • Your characters: alt remembers each character's level, gold, zone and bags from the last time you logged out.
  • Your character: gear compare, equipment sets, mounts, talents, spells, quests, achievements, reputation, flight paths, cooldowns, lockouts, timers.
  • Group and chat: invite, kick, ready check, gear check, say/party/guild/whisper, and notes on players.
  • Around you: nearby lists the players, NPCs and mobs near you.
  • Game settings: options, CVars (with backups), key bindings, volume.
  • Hooks: run a line when you log in, open a vendor, mailbox, bank or trainer, level up, change zone, or leave combat, or when someone invites you, trades, duels, summons or resurrects you.

Classic and Retail

WowTerm is made for WoW Forever and loads in Retail from the same folder. Most of the testing has been in Forever. A few commands only exist in Classic (skill, resist, hunterpet, feed); in Retail they say they're not available instead of breaking.

Bugs and ideas

Leave a comment here. If something breaks, WowTerm prints the error, and export 1 gives it to you as text you can paste.
