WoWQuote Forever

Soundboard for WoW Forever: send sound quotes to your party, raid or guild.

WoWQuote2 Forever

WoWQuote2 Forever is a soundboard for World of Warcraft: Forever. Pick a quote, and everyone in your party, raid or guild who also uses WoWQuote2 hears it.

This is a port of the classic WoWQuote2 to the WoW Forever client (Interface 16001). The original addon was released as Public Domain; all credit goes to its authors (see Credits).

(Deutsche Anleitung weiter unten.)

Features

  • Send sound quotes to your party, raid (dungeon finder and battleground groups too) or guild
  • Test mode: play a quote only for yourself
  • Searchable, sortable list with categories
  • Aliases for your favourite quotes
  • Long clips (music) can be stopped at any time with the stop button or /wqs
  • Receiving can be switched on/off per channel
  • Movable quick button on the screen

Important: sounds are not included

WoWQuote2 Forever contains no sounds. It plays the sounds of separate QuoteMedia sound packs. These packs are made by the community and are not part of this project. Everybody who should hear a quote needs the same sound pack.

Installation guide

Step 1: Find your AddOns folder

In the Battle.net app select WoW Forever, click the gear icon next to Play → Show in Explorer. There, open Interface → AddOns (create the folders if they don't exist). All folders below go directly into this AddOns folder.

Step 2: Install WoWQuote2 Forever

  • CurseForge app: search for WoWQuote2 Forever and click Install.
  • Manually: download the main file from the Files tab and extract it into AddOns.

Step 3: Install the sound pack templates

  1. On the Files tab, open the main file and download the additional file QuoteMedia-Vorlagen-forever.zip.
  2. Extract it into AddOns. You now have these folders, each with an empty media folder: QuoteMediaBdsK, QuoteMediaClassicSounds, QuoteMediaDefault, QuoteMediaFallenAngel, QuoteMediaFanpack1, QuoteMediaGermanSounds, QuoteMediaLoStiSounds, QuoteMediaOwn, QuoteMediaWQ2Sounds.
  3. The templates contain the quote lists, already updated for WoW Forever, but no sounds. Without the sounds the quotes show up in the list but stay silent.

Step 4: Download the sound packs

  1. Open the files of the WoWQuoteClassic project: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/wowquoteclassic/files
  2. Download the QuoteMedia packs you want from there and extract them somewhere (e.g. your desktop) first.
  3. You only need the QuoteMedia… folders. Don't copy the WoWQuote2 folder from that download, it is an older version.

Step 5: Copy the sounds into the templates ("skip files")

  1. Copy the downloaded QuoteMedia… folders into AddOns, onto the templates of the same name.
  2. Windows asks what to do with files that already exist. Choose "Skip these files" (German Windows: "Dateien überspringen").
  3. This keeps the updated files of the template and adds only the sound files.
  4. Check one pack: the sounds must be in AddOns\QuoteMediaDefault\media\ (not one folder deeper).

Accidentally clicked "Replace"? Extract QuoteMedia-Vorlagen-forever.zip into AddOns again and this time choose "Replace the files in the destination": the sounds stay, the updated files come back.

A sound pack without a template? Copy it into AddOns normally and tick Load out of date AddOns in step 6.

Step 6: Enable the addons in the game

  1. On the character selection screen, click AddOns (bottom left).
  2. Tick WoWQuote2 and your QuoteMedia packs.
  3. Log in. In the chat you will see WoWQuote2: … loaded and one line per sound pack.

Step 7: Play quotes

  1. Type /wq or click the quick button to open the window.
  2. Choose the channel at the bottom left (Party, Guild, Raid or Test-Mode).
  3. Double-click a quote to send it.
  4. Use the checkboxes at the top to decide from which channels you want to hear quotes.

Commands

Command What it does
/wq open / close the window
/wqp <id or alias> send a quote to your party
/wqr <id or alias> send a quote to your raid
/wqg <id or alias> send a quote to your guild
/wql <id or alias> play a quote only for yourself
/wqf <text> search quotes
/wqa <alias> <id> set an alias (/wqa <alias> removes it, /wqa lists all)
/wqb <p, r, g or all> <on or off> switch receiving per channel (/wqb shows the settings)
/wqs stop music
/wqn ask who in the selected channel uses WoWQuote2
/wqqb show / hide the quick button
/wqrandom send a random quote to your group
/wqh help

The quick button can be moved with the right mouse button. A key binding for the window can be set in the game's key binding menu.

Troubleshooting

  • A sound pack doesn't show up in the AddOns list: the folder is nested one level too deep, or the folder name was changed. Correct: AddOns\QuoteMediaDefault\QuoteMediaDefault.toc.
  • The quotes are listed but stay silent: the sound files are missing or in the wrong place; they belong in AddOns\QuoteMedia…\media\ (step 5). Restart the game after copying (a /reload doesn't find new files).
  • A sound pack is greyed out / "out of date": the template was replaced by the old files. Extract the templates again with "Replace" (step 5), or tick Load out of date AddOns.
  • Others don't hear my quotes: they need WoWQuote2 Forever and the same sound pack, and must not have switched off that channel. /wqn shows who uses WoWQuote2.
  • "The sound was not sent" in a dungeon or raid: during combat and boss encounters Blizzard blocks addon messages in instances. Try again after the fight.
  • Lua error: please post the full error text in the comments.

Make your own sound pack

A sound pack is a small addon with MP3 files and a list of them. See README_QuoteMedia.txt in the WoWQuote2 folder for a tutorial and a generator tool. If you publish a pack, only use sounds you recorded yourself or that are free to use.

Deutsch

Alle Ordner unten kommen direkt in diesen AddOns-Ordner.

Schritt 2: WoWQuote2 Forever installieren

  2. In AddOns entpacken. Danach liegen dort diese Ordner, jeweils mit einem leeren media-Ordner: QuoteMediaBdsK, QuoteMediaClassicSounds, QuoteMediaDefault, QuoteMediaFallenAngel, QuoteMediaFanpack1, QuoteMediaGermanSounds, QuoteMediaLoStiSounds, QuoteMediaOwn, QuoteMediaWQ2Sounds.
