WorldController
WorldController lets you play WoW Forever with a gamepad. Your spells go on eight buttons: A, B, X, Y and the four D-pad directions. Each button is a category of spells. Tap it to cast its quick spell. Hold it and a wheel of related spells opens; point the other stick at a slot and let go to cast. Releasing on the bottom slot cancels.
The addon is in beta. I build it on the Forever beta and test it with a Steam Controller, a German client and a low-level shaman, so many parts have not been tried on other classes yet. Bug reports help a lot.
Requirements
- WoW Forever (interface 16001). Classic and retail clients are not supported.
- Blizzard's own Gamepad UI has to be off. Its camera and movement settings still apply.
- A controller through Steam Input, with the community layout "WoW-Forever WorldController" by Bumblebeaver. In Steam, open the controller layout for WoW, browse the community layouts and pick it. The layout sends an extra key (Num /) with the face buttons and D-pad, which the addon uses to keep you running while a wheel is open. It also turns both trackpads into a mouse (left pad clicks left, right pad clicks right), uses the gyro as a mouse while you touch a trackpad, and maps the back paddles L4, R4, L5 and R5 to F8, F9, F10 and F11.
- ConsolePort cannot run at the same time. If both are loaded, a dialog at login lets you disable one of them.
Wheels
You fill each wheel yourself: a quick spell in the middle and up to 12 slots around it. A slot can hold a spell, an item, the best potion, bandage or healthstone you carry, an emote, or a window such as the spellbook or the map. Some wheels fill themselves from your bags or pet bar: food and drink, potions, and the pet wheel for hunters and warlocks.
Spells with ranks appear once in the list. After picking one you choose whether the slot always casts your highest rank, including ranks you learn later, or one fixed rank, for example a cheap heal.
Each wheel also decides what happens while you run. An instant wheel keeps you running through the pick. A stationary wheel stops you as soon as it opens, which suits cast-time and channelled spells and bandages. A combined wheel keeps running when you only tap the quick spell and stops once you move the stick to pick a slot.
Setup with the pad
Press an empty button and the editor opens. You configure everything there with the D-pad and the face buttons. Each character can keep several named layouts, say one for questing, one for healing in dungeons and one for battlegrounds, and switch between them out of combat. Any button can be a modifier: while you hold it, every other button switches to a second layer. The back paddles L4, R4, L5 and R5 can be turned on in the options as four more category buttons; the addon expects them on F8 to F11, as the Steam layout sends them.
Targeting
RT targets enemies and LT targets allies. Holding a trigger opens Blizzard's targeting circle around your character. In a party or raid, holding LT opens a group wheel with class icons and health bars instead, and a tap targets your favourite member (the tank by default). Solo, LT targets yourself.
A crosshair sits above your character. LB left-clicks and RB right-clicks at it, so you target, talk to NPCs and loot by looking at them. A trackpad or gyro mouse works as well.
Windows
Loot, quests, gossip, merchants, trainers, bags, the bank, mail, flight masters, the spellbook, talents, the quest log and professions each get their own pad controls, with a legend in Blizzard's button icons. In other windows the D-pad jumps the cursor from button to button. Holding Back opens a wheel with the game's windows; a tap opens the map.
HUD
A button bar in the style of Blizzard's gamepad action bar shows each button's quick spell, the spells of its wheel around it, and their cooldowns.
Known issues
- Group loot rolls (Need, Greed, Pass) have no pad controls yet. Click them with a mouse, trackpad or gyro.
Commands
/wc opens the options, /wc help lists all commands, and /wc off pauses the addon and puts back the game settings it changed (/wc on turns it on again).
The interface is in English and German.
