What's new

Changelog

1.5.4

  • Shared clusters and calls for help now carry a map pin link instead of coordinates: click it in chat to put a pin on the cluster's centre, or on the body of the one calling for help.
  • Any cluster can be shared, on another layer or in another zone too: the line then says its layer.

1.5.3

  • While dead (before you release), you keep reporting the enemies around your body, without earning scout points for it. As a ghost, nothing is reported.
  • When most of a cluster's players move on, the few left behind are no longer shown in a big circle where the cluster used to be: it shrinks onto them, where they actually are.
  • New test scenario, A raid moves on (Settings > Testing), to see it happen.
  • The "Call for help" button under the death window now looks like the game's own buttons, and stays after a call so you can call in another channel too.
  • Joining another layer can now ask scouts who reported the cluster in the last 8 minutes (was 5).
  • On the world map, your layer's clusters over Overlord objectives that can be taken now are less see-through, and over locked objectives they keep their full strength.

1.5.2

  • Players are no longer ignored automatically because a cluster they reported looked empty to you (it was often another layer); everyone ignored this way is restored. Players you ignored yourself stay ignored.

1.5.1

  • New Intel tab in the scout record: the enemy classes, races and levels you meet most, and the enemy guilds around you, seen yourself or reported by other scouts.
  • The scout record's tabs have a new look with icons, and "Reporters & news" is now "Reporters", where your recent events keep a much longer history you can scroll through.

1.5.0

  • Each faction and server type (PvP, PvE, RP, RP-PvP) now keeps its own scout progress, kill-on-sight and ignore lists, and map data: a character of the other faction or on another kind of server no longer sees yours. Your progress so far is kept: it goes to the side your guild is on, or you are asked once.
  • Big enemy clusters say when one guild makes up a large part of them, in the tooltip, the details and the cluster list.
  • On PvE and RP servers, your sightings are shared and earn scout points only while you are PvP-flagged; unflagged, they still show on your map, and their tooltip and details say only you see them, and why.
  • Kill-on-sight players follow your map settings like everyone else: a cluster under your minimum size or a player far below your level no longer shows just because they are on your list.
  • "Add to kill-on-sight list" only appears on players high enough to count on your map.
  • Cluster circles on the world map are smaller and less inflated; bigger groups still draw bigger, and the count in the middle of very big ones grows with them.
  • Cluster edges on the world map glow more softly, easier on the eyes on bright maps.
  • Settings are easier to find: General, World map and Minimap pages replace "Detection & Map", and the unused Towns page is gone.
  • "Only confirmed public sightings" replaces the number of public reporters needed, and the guild-only option now says it only changes what you see.

1.4.3

  • A cluster with only enemies far below your level left no longer stays on your map.
  • Proximity alerts only fire for clusters on your layer in your zone: clusters on other layers, in other zones or whose layer isn't known stay quiet.
  • On the minimap, clusters are glowing rings with a clear centre, so group members, your arrow and quest markers inside them stay visible; other addons' minimap icons show above them.
  • In the cluster list, "My layer" keeps only clusters on your layer in your zone, and Overlord's icon only marks objectives that can be taken now (as its filter).
  • In a cluster's details, its latest composition (class icons and counts) is shown bigger.
  • Layers in other zones are never mistaken for yours (rally point, map views, layer picker), and the map tooltip says "In another zone" under the layer, as the details do.

1.4.2

  • Smart layers, the new map default: every layer is shown, your layer's clusters are always drawn on top, and other layers' clusters under them fade further, so yours stand out.
  • Hovering overlapping clusters picks the one on your layer first, then the bigger one (point at a small cluster's number to get it); the others hide their numbers while you hover.
  • New test scenario, Smart layers (Settings > Testing): clusters of your layer and others overlapping in every way, to see how they're drawn and hovered.
  • The scout record's network light is brighter, and its tooltip and the cluster list's follow your mouse.
  • Enemies far below your level never count toward a cluster's size: 5 levels by default, up to 8 (the on/off option and the minimum level are gone; gaps set above 8 go back to 5).
  • The cluster list tells you how many clusters your settings hide and why (too small at your level, other layers...), also when the list is empty.
  • The ignored players list shows why each one is there (by hand, or for empty reports).
  • Scouts from other realms are now recognised along with their sightings, so their clusters' layers are read right and they merge with yours.
  • Fixed an error that could repeat when you or your group killed an enemy player.
  • Clusters in another zone say so instead of "Maybe your layer", and Join layer is offered for them again when they share your layer's number.
  • Fixed Join layer doing nothing while you're dead or a ghost.
  • Fixed a layer sometimes being marked "maybe your layer" for everyone after a player logged in or reloaded.

1.4.1

  • Across hidden realms, for everyone: sightings from scouts outside your guild now reach other hidden realms too, carried over by guilds with members on both.
  • Clusters reported by your party or raid count as your layer, even where layers are hard to tell apart.
  • The minimap button's tooltip shows your layer.
  • On the minimap, a cluster packed into one spot shows just its faction icon instead of a bright dot.

1.4.0

  • Layers that match between players: War Effort now reads layers the way every player sees them, so "Your layer", other layers and alerts work between players again; when it can't tell, it says so instead of guessing.
  • Your layer is found faster after you change layers.
  • Joining another layer: stay in the group as long as you want to stay there, leaving it sends you back.
  • A cluster's map tooltip shows its layer in the top-right corner, as its details do, and says whether it's yours (in red while your own layer isn't known yet).
  • On the minimap, a cluster's faction icon fades as it gets closer to you, so it doesn't hide what's right in front of you.
  • Fixed clusters from other zones showing up in the wrong places on the maps of Forever's new zones (Riverglades): a zone's map now shows its own clusters only.

1.3.5

  • Layer requests: a scout in a group who isn't its leader can now suggest you to their leader instead of turning you down.
  • When a layer request can't be answered you're told why (in combat, left the zone, group full...), and turned-down requests show in red.
  • In a cluster's details, classes that left now show their count in red.
  • The minimap now only hides clusters right next to you, so nearby ones show sooner.

1.3.4

  • Across hidden realms: sightings made on another hidden realm now reach yours too, passed on by the scout's guildmates on your realm, so everyone sees more of the map.
  • New contracts: be the first to spot clusters others confirm, watch a cluster double in size, keep one in sight, scout across continents and layers, in contested zones or deep in enemy territory, swarms, night watch and more. Three weekly contracts instead of two.
  • The map now shows enemy clusters on every layer by default, other layers dimmed (switch back to "My layer only" in the map settings), and clicking one shows its history whatever its layer.
  • The world map no longer hides clusters right next to you by default ("Ignore clusters closer than" is off; the minimap keeps its own setting).
  • A red chat line warns you when War Effort can't join its hidden channel (for example with 10 chat channels open), so you know players outside your guild can't see your sightings.

1.3.3

  • Clusters on the map no longer show a green check: hover one to see whether it's confirmed. The "Confirmation marks on the map" setting is gone with it.

1.3.2

  • Network light: the scout record has a light in its bottom-right corner that glows while you're connected to your faction's scout network and ripples as sightings go out and come in. Hover it to see how many scouts were heard lately.
  • Sharing is always on and reports clusters of PvP-flagged enemies from 2 players: the pause option, /we pause, "Share my reports" and the minimum cluster size to report are gone. "Share with my guild only" stays.

1.3.1

  • Catch-up after logging in: when you log back in, or come out of a battleground, War Effort catches up on the enemy clusters other scouts saw while you were away.
  • Clusters on the world map have a new soft look: a light tint with a glowing edge, so the map stays readable. The solid look is still there (map settings, Cluster style). Direction arrows glow too and sit clear of the cluster.
  • A small cluster sitting inside a big one's circle gets a ring of its own and stays on top, so the two don't read as one and the small one can be hovered and clicked.
  • A cluster holding someone from your kill-on-sight list shows a skull on the map instead of its count, and its details say when that player shows up in it or leaves.
  • Cluster list: a new "Kill on sight" filter shows only clusters with someone from your list.
  • Players go on your kill-on-sight list from their portrait's right-click menu only (no more typing names).
  • Shared lines and calls for help now end with "- War Effort on CurseForge" instead of starting with [War Effort].
  • The "newer version available" reminder (in green) now also shows outside a guild, once enough players around you run the newer version.
  • With Overlord: no objective bonus on front points neither faction can take right now (Overlord's capture order).

1.3.0

  • Call for help: die next to an enemy cluster while in a party or raid, and a button under the death window asks your party, raid or guild for help, saying who killed you and where (can be turned off in the new Miscellaneous settings).
  • Cluster details show the cluster's layer at the top and buttons at the bottom: ask for an invite to its layer, share it in chat (say, party, raid or guild) or ignore a reporter. A green line confirms what was done.
  • Shared lines start with [War Effort] and give levels and how long ago the group was seen. No Say while you're dead.
  • Layer invites: ask from anywhere on the cluster's continent (stay in the group until you get there); asking again asks another reporter; players who left the zone or layer aren't asked; no invite if the reporter moved meanwhile.
  • War Effort's entries in an enemy portrait's right-click menu sit under their own heading.
  • New setting "Your layer opacity" for clusters on your layer.
  • Direction arrows only for clusters clearly on the move.
  • Continent and world maps never show cluster circles (the setting is gone); emblems mark clusters from 20 enemies.
  • Raid alerts default to 250 yards (was 500).
  • The Overlord settings page keeps only its map scenarios.
  • Lighter on your computer: less work and less memory in busy raids, cities and fights, and messages from other addons are ignored at once.

1.2.4

  • Targeting an enemy far away no longer puts them in a group on you, whether you're alone or next to other enemies.

1.2.3

  • A War Effort button at the top right of the world map switches between Full radar, Radar without the map, Radar without the map or minimap, and Silent scout. It replaces the map's checkbox, and its ring glows softly while you are not in Full radar.
  • Switching to Silent scout now asks first, since it clears what other players have shared with you.

1.2.2

  • Enemies seen dying in front of you (or killed by your group) leave their group at once, whoever reported it, and come back as soon as anyone sees them alive again.
  • The world map is quicker to update when many enemy groups are shown.

1.2.1

  • Hovering or targeting an enemy far away no longer adds them to the group you are standing with.
  • With Overlord also running, enemy groups and War Effort's map buttons are drawn above its objectives.
  • On very busy servers the count of players sharing publicly shows 500+ instead of stopping at 500.
  • Hover a contract in the scout record for its full text, what counts, its conditions and its progress.

1.2.0

  • Enemy cluster list: every enemy cluster in one list, nearest first, with its classes at a glance and its layer and Overlord objective marked. Click one to show it on the map, where rings spread from it for a moment so you spot it at once. Filter it to guild reports, confirmed clusters, your layer, a minimum size or Overlord's objectives. It opens beside the scout record with the tab on its right edge, or with /we clusters.
  • /we now opens your scout record; /we settings opens the settings.
  • The scout record has a button to show the introduction again.
  • Windows stay where you drag them, also after a reload.
  • The minimap keeps showing enemy groups while you are dead, a ghost or on a flight path.
  • The counts of War Effort users no longer start from zero after reloading your UI.

1.1.0

  • Overlord bonuses: if you also run the Overlord addon, the points you earn standing in one of its objectives are worth more (front zones, capitals, outposts and guild keeps), with two contracts of their own. Clusters at those objectives say so in their tooltip. See the new Overlord settings page.
  • The scout record shows four more stats: your Overlord bonus, points this week, your current streak and your trusted reporters. Sample data there now has a little X to close it.

1.0.0

  • War Effort 1.0: the first full release.
  • Seven new contracts: back up a guildmate's report, help players outside your guild, spot a mixed group of classes, spot groups on the move, answer a fresh call quickly, defend your faction's territory, and hunt down a given class.
  • After a /reload or relog, groups keep their full history and trail, your own sighting keeps the enemies you were seeing, and you no longer re-send a sighting everyone already has.
  • "Also share publicly" is now "Share with my guild only", off by default: your reports go to the public channel too. Everyone is set back to sharing publicly once with this update; tick it in the Sharing settings to keep your sightings within your guild.
  • The minimap keeps only the nearest clusters (5 by default, up to 10), has its own "Ignore clusters closer than" setting, and its marker range defaults to 300 yards.
  • New guild rally icons in each faction's style: a banner, a shield and crossed weapons, a little see-through, with no box behind them on the toast and no fill on the map.
  • Players' pets far above your level now show their real level too, instead of a skull.
  • The scout record window is bigger and roomier, with a button bar at the bottom (Open settings for now).
  • Tidier settings: the layer and age settings moved to the world map section, hiding crowds at dungeon and raid entrances is on hold for now (greyed out), and the outline option is gone.
  • Zerg Radar is no longer supported: its users and its saved settings aren't picked up any more.

0.2.13-beta

  • Enemies placed where they stand: clusters you spot sit on the enemies themselves, worked out from their nameplates, instead of on your own position, and everyone receiving your reports sees them there. Standing still, enemies are placed in front of you as far away as they are; two groups close together show as two clusters.
  • While you move, your own cluster waits on the minimap where you last stood still and catches up when you stop.
  • Big clusters on the minimap are much more see-through, so they no longer hide the minimap under them.
  • Real levels instead of ??: players far above your level show their real level on your target and focus frames, nameplates and tooltips. On by default, in the Map settings.
  • Pick your own colours for Alliance and Horde clusters (replaces the "always red" choice), and a new option shows clusters your guildmates report in a colour of their own (green by default). Guild clusters need no check mark, and their tooltip says how many of the players reporting them are from your guild.
  • A guildmate's report is trusted on its own: it is never shown as unconfirmed.
  • Clusters from other players now show from 5 enemies (was 10). Everyone is set to 5 once with this update; change it back in the Map settings if you prefer.
  • New setting: the most clusters drawn on your map and minimap (100 by default), keeping the ones that matter most to you: yours, your layer, the closest, the dangerous ones.
  • A cluster leaves your map once you stand where it was and see nobody, yours and older ones from others alike.
  • Other players' clusters whose layer is unknown are drawn like clusters on other layers, with the layer in red.
  • While a test scenario plays your map shows only the test, and the realistic test shows a much busier map.
  • War Effort's chat messages are now white, easier to read.
  • Fixed: an enemy you target from far away could show as a cluster on your own position, and a cluster of yours could stay on the map at 0 after everyone had moved on.

0.2.12-beta

  • Your own sightings stay where the enemies are: clusters you walk away from, die near or reload next to stay on your map, separate clusters close to each other show separately, and clusters no longer blink on and off.
  • Clusters on everyone's map stay closer to reality: changes in size or in who is there are shared sooner.
  • Clusters you spot yourself now show on your map from 3 players, as soon as you report them.
  • Hovering a cluster on the minimap shows the same details as on the world map: classes, levels and more; its glow on the minimap is no longer oversized.
  • The direction arrow on a cluster only shows when it is really on the move, not when you walk around it.
  • Enemies shown as "??" to a lower-level scout get their real level when someone else can read it.
  • Enemies already around you when you resurrect or land are counted right away.
  • The addon's hidden channel no longer takes /1 (or any number before General, Trade and the others).
  • Fixed an error when opening the world map during a fight.

0.2.11-beta

  • Big clusters reach the rest of your faction faster, and sharing recovers quicker when the game is busy.
  • The new welcome window shows once more for players who had hidden the old one.

0.2.10-beta

  • Tell your group: right-click a cluster on your layer, or the portrait of an enemy in it, to tell your raid or party about it in chat.
  • Silent scouts see the welcome window too, with a button to switch to the full radar.
  • Sightings get through more reliably in busy fights, and the addon rejoins its channel by itself if it drops.
  • Sightings show their real age even when the game delivers them late, and outdated ones are no longer shown as fresh.
  • Better protection against fake or exaggerated sightings from players outside your guild.
  • Very large battles are now shared (as 80 enemies) instead of being lost.
  • Hiding clusters in towns is paused until town locations are reliable: clusters there are shown like anywhere else.
  • Fixed: your own sightings could count as reported by a second player, and you could appear twice on the guild board.
  • No more "No player named" chat errors after asking someone who just logged off to invite you.
  • Zerg Radar users no longer receive War Effort's sightings: time to switch to War Effort.

0.2.9-beta

  • See clusters change at a glance: when players join or leave a cluster on your layer, a short +1 / -1 with their class icons rises above it on the map. You can turn it off in the map settings.
  • Test scenarios open the map and show a small window with the time left and a Stop button. The realistic scenario now has players joining and leaving more often.
  • No more alerts for clusters you're reporting yourself: you can already see them.
  • A clearer welcome window: how War Effort works, in four pictures, and a button to tell your guild about it.

0.2.8-beta

  • Shorter test button in the welcome window: "Show a test raid".

0.2.7-beta

  • Test clusters are clearly marked: alerts from them say "(test)", and the welcome window's test button says it shows a fake raid.

0.2.6-beta

  • New settings for your own sightings on the world map and the minimap: shown by default, from 5 players at most 5 levels below you. New "My own sighting" test scenario to try it.
  • Horde theme: titles, buttons and tooltips use a warm amber instead of red on red, easier to read.

0.2.5-beta

  • Cluster history: click a reporter's name to ignore their reports.
  • Players of your own faction are never counted, even when a duel or a free-for-all arena makes them hostile.

0.2.4-beta

  • Cluster history: click a cluster on the map to see who reported it, with which classes, who confirmed it, players who moved on to another cluster, merges and alerts. Kept for clusters on your layer only; can be turned off in the Map settings.
  • More accurate cluster counts: different enemies are mixed up less often, and a player seen joining another cluster no longer counts in the one they left.
  • Chat messages share one look, and a short line at login says War Effort is running and in which mode.
  • Scout events (points, contracts, milestones, streaks, promotions) are written in chat too; pick which ones in the Progression settings.
  • Test scenarios: the realistic layers scenario now shows players switching clusters, a scout riding off and a merge; new "Players switching clusters" scenario.
  • Fixed: a cluster met again by a scout could sometimes alert a second time.

0.2.3-beta

  • Guild rally points: officers in a group can call the guild to regroup, defend or attack at a spot (banner button on the world map, or /we rally). Guildmates in that zone and on that layer get a toast and a horn. Settings in the new Guild tab, with test scenarios.
  • Sighting points only count enemies at most 5 levels below you.
  • Toasts and contracts name the enemy faction ("Horde cluster spotted").
  • Layer invite requests only offered in the cluster's zone.
  • Alerts flash the game icon in the taskbar or Dock (can be turned off).
  • The guild roster and status page show who runs Silent scout.
  • Map: green check before confirmed clusters, no more "?" or dark backdrop.
  • Settings buttons fit longer translations.
  • The frequent toasts (cluster spotted, sighting confirmed, your report confirmed) are now off by default.
  • Fixed: when a player spotted a second, different cluster, the first one vanished from the map.
  • The roster's "Sharing" column shows whether a player chose to share, no longer "No" while they are dead or flying.

0.2.2-beta

  • Reports wait for a cluster's count to settle and go out at its real size, with fewer messages.
  • Enemies stay counted 30 seconds after their nameplate disappears (was 60).
  • Fixed: public presence could go 6 minutes without updating after a zone change.
  • Windows: blurry background crest removed; close button tinted by faction.

0.2.1-beta

  • Guild leaderboard in the scout record: this week, all time and category leaders.
  • Only PvP-flagged enemies are counted, on every realm.
  • Minimap button: click opens the scout record, right-click the settings.
  • Scout ranks take longer to earn.
  • New faction-themed look for all windows, toasts and alerts.
  • Richer map and minimap tooltips (class icons, size bar, state tags).

0.2.0-beta

  • Zerg Radar is now War Effort. Your data is imported automatically; use /we instead of /zr.
  • Still shares sightings with Zerg Radar users for now.
  • Scout progression: earn points by spotting and confirming clusters, climb 14 ranks, with contracts, streaks, milestones, toasts and a scout record window (/we scout). All local.
  • Minimap button.
  • Lighter, smaller alert banner.

0.1.12-beta

  • Windows come to the front when clicked.
  • A moving raid seen by two players stays one cluster.
  • "Guild only reports" setting and other-layer opacity setting.

0.1.11-beta

  • No hellos in instances or battlegrounds.
  • Clusters stay 8 minutes by default (was 5).
  • New defaults: clusters show from 10 enemies, continent map from 15.
  • Hellos every 3 minutes.
  • Roster and layer windows scroll.
  • Layers shown by the game's own number.

0.1.10-beta

  • First-run choice: Full radar or Silent scout (share only, see nothing).
  • Your own eyes overrule reports: a report where you see nobody is dropped.
  • Layer requests only to recent reporters of that layer.

0.1.9-beta

  • Ignore a reporter from the map (ctrl-click), and an ignored players window.
  • Layer join requests on by default.
  • "Show on the world map" checkbox on the map.

0.1.8-beta

  • Code quality pass.

0.1.7-beta
