VoiceQuest — quest narration with text-to-speech

VoiceQuest reads quest texts aloud using the game's built-in text-to-speech. Male NPCs speak with a male voice, female NPCs with a female voice. No audio files, no external programs: it uses the voices already installed on your computer.

Features

• Reads the quest text when an NPC offers it, before you accept.
• Reads "not finished yet" and turn-in texts.
• "Speak" button in the quest log — listen to any quest you already have.
• Talking head: narration starts a few seconds after the NPC's greeting, in a window with the NPC's portrait and subtitles. You can close the quest window and keep playing. Every dialog page is queued and read in order; arrows on the talking head step back and forward.
• Sentence by sentence: the current sentence is highlighted, reading can be paused, Shift + arrows step through sentences.
• Filters: skip quests you have already heard, skip daily quests, announce when a quest is complete.
• Voices with character: speech speed depends on the NPC's race (tauren slower, gnomes faster); <stage directions> are read by the narrator.
• Automation (optional): auto-accept and auto turn-in quests (with a per-quest "No auto" exclusion), pick the most valuable reward, sell junk (with a keep list) and repair at merchants. Hold Shift to skip.
• Different voices for male and female NPCs, chosen automatically.
• Books, letters and plaques; optional NPC dialogue and NPC speech in the world.
• Keeps reading after you click "Accept" (optional).
• Stops when you close the window or enter combat (optional).
• Settings window, minimap button, key bindings.
• Profiles: one set of settings for all characters, or own settings per character.
• Voices are matched to your game language automatically.
• Languages: English, Русский, Deutsch, Français, Español, Português, Italiano, 한국어, 简体中文, 繁體中文.

Quick start

1. Install the addon with the CurseForge app, or unpack the archive into World of Warcraft<game folder>\Interface\AddOns\.
2. Restart the game completely. A new addon is not detected by /reload.
3. On the character select screen click AddOns and make sure VoiceQuest is enabled. If it is marked "out of date", tick Load out of date AddOns.
4. In game type /vq to open the settings, then click Test.
5. Talk to any NPC with a "!" above their head.

Getting a second voice (male + female)

Windows usually exposes only one voice per language to games. Type /vq voices in game to see what you have. If the male and female voices are the same, add a second voice:

Option A — enable the hidden Windows voice (recommended). Windows 10/11 contain extra voices that games cannot see by default (for Russian: Microsoft Pavel). See the "Russian male voice" section below for a ready-made registry file.

Option B — install a SAPI 5 voice. Free voices exist for many languages, but some of them are not visible to the game even when Windows sees them. Check with /vq voices after restarting the game.

After adding a voice: restart the game, open /vq and pick it in the Male or Female field (or leave Auto).

Commands

Key bindings: Options → Key Bindings → AddOns → VoiceQuest.

Troubleshooting

• Nothing happens. Make sure the chat shows "VoiceQuest: loaded" after login. If not, the addon is disabled or out of date (see Quick start, step 3).
• Gibberish like "teri-teri". A voice of another language is selected. Open /vq and set the voice to Auto or to a voice in your language.
• Both genders sound the same. You have one voice for your language. See "Getting a second voice".
• Voice installed but not in the list. Restart the game (and the computer). Some third-party voices are not visible to the game; use Option A.

VoiceQuest — озвучка заданий (Русский)

VoiceQuest читает тексты заданий вслух встроенным синтезатором речи игры. Мужчины-NPC говорят мужским голосом, женщины — женским. Никаких звуковых файлов и сторонних программ: используются голоса, которые уже есть на вашем компьютере.

Возможности

• Читает текст задания, когда NPC его предлагает, ещё до принятия.
• Читает тексты «ещё не выполнено» и тексты при сдаче.
• Кнопка «Озвучить» в журнале заданий — прослушайте любое уже взятое задание.
• Говорящая голова: озвучка начинается через несколько секунд после приветствия NPC, в окне с портретом NPC и субтитрами. Окно задания можно закрыть и играть дальше. Все страницы диалога встают в очередь и читаются по порядку, стрелками на голове можно листать назад и вперёд.
• По предложениям: текущее предложение подсвечивается, чтение можно поставить на паузу, Shift + стрелки листают предложения.
• Фильтры: не читать уже прослушанные и ежедневные задания, сообщать о выполненных заданиях.
• Голоса с характером: скорость речи зависит от расы NPC (таурены медленнее, гномы быстрее); <ремарки> читает рассказчик.
• Автоматизация (по желанию): автопринятие и автосдача заданий (кнопка «Без авто» исключает отдельное задание), выбор самой ценной награды, продажа мусора (со списком вещей, которые не продавать) и починка у торговца. Shift — пропустить.
• Разные голоса для мужчин и женщин, подбираются автоматически.
• Книги, письма и таблички; по желанию — диалоги NPC и их реплики в мире.
• Дочитывает после нажатия «Принять» (по желанию).
• Замолкает при закрытии окна или входе в бой (по желанию).
• Окно настроек, кнопка у миникарты, горячие клавиши.
• Профили: общие настройки для всех персонажей или свои у каждого.

Команды: /vq — настройки, /vq pause — пауза, /vq next / /vq prev — страницы, /vq block — исключить задание из автоматики, /vq stats — итог по продаже и починке, /vq voices — список голосов.

Установка

1. Установите аддон через приложение CurseForge или распакуйте архив в World of Warcraft<папка игры>\Interface\AddOns\.
2. Полностью перезапустите игру — /reload новый аддон не найдёт.
3. На экране выбора персонажа нажмите «Модификации» и проверьте, что VoiceQuest включён. Если он помечен как устаревший, включите «Загружать устаревшие модификации».
4. В игре введите /vq и нажмите «Тест».
5. Подойдите к любому NPC с «!» над головой.

Мужской русский голос (Microsoft Pavel)

В Windows обычно доступен только женский голос Irina. Мужской голос Pavel в Windows есть, но скрыт от игр. Чтобы включить его:

1. Убедитесь, что русский голосовой пакет установлен: Параметры → Время и язык → Речь → Добавить голоса → Русский.
2. Закройте игру.
3. Создайте в Блокноте файл, вставьте текст ниже и сохраните как Pavel.reg (тип файла — «Все файлы», кодировка — UTF-16 LE или ANSI).
4. Дважды щёлкните Pavel.reg и подтвердите изменения.
5. Запустите игру, введите /vq voices — появится Microsoft Pavel. Аддон выберет его автоматически.

Частые проблемы

• Ничего не происходит. После входа в чате должно быть «VoiceQuest: загружен». Если нет — аддон выключен или устарел (см. шаг 3 установки).
• Бессмыслица вроде «Тери-Тери». Выбран голос другого языка. Откройте /vq и поставьте Авто или русский голос.
• Мужчины и женщины звучат одинаково. Установлен только один русский голос — включите Pavel (см. выше).
• Голос установлен, но его нет в списке. Перезапустите игру и компьютер. Некоторые сторонние голоса (например, RHVoice) игра не видит — используйте Pavel.
