TipTac - An Advanced Tooltip Addon
TipTac is a tooltip enchancement addon, it allows you to configure various aspects of the tooltip, such as moving where it's shown, the font, the scale of tips, colored highlights, backgrounds, frames plus a lot more.
To open the options dialog, just use "/tip" or "/tiptac" without any parameters. Use "/tip anchor" (or click the Anchor button in the options window) to show the anchor frame and position it as you want.
I only fixed the addon for classic (and fixed some bug which I dont know if exists in retail) and added a few extra feature that others requested, but I don't plan to develop it further or to add more features if unless they are really needed.
The original author is Aezay who created the Retail version of this addon (last changed in march 2019)
Current Features
- Shows the buffs and debuffs of the target with cooldown models. Has options to make it only show the ones you cast.
- When in a raid or party, there is an option to show who from the group is targeting the unit.
- Vast anchoring options allows you to change between Normal, Mouse and Parent anchor, this is configurable for both unit and non-unit tips on a frame or non-frames.
- Anchoring frame lets you decide exactly where you want tips with the normal anchoring option.
- Able to change the font face and size for all tips in the User Interface. Uses "LibSharedMedia" if installed.
- Can show a Health, Mana, Energy, Rage or Focus bar inside the tip, which can be enabled or disabled as you prefer.
- Tips are getting updated at a customizable interval to display changes.
- Configurable fading options, both a prefade and fadeout time can be set. They can also be set to zero if you prefer the tips to just hide instantly.
- Allows for you to change the background and border color of the TipTacTip and any of the modified tip.
Special Tip Modification
TipTac does not only configure the tip for units, you can also use TipTac to modify other tips in the WoW Interface. The way they are getting modified are both in scale and appearance. The border and background of the modified tips can be changed to colors of your desire.
Features I changed or added
- - Obviously I removed all retail-related things, or features which try to acquire information that blocked in Classic WoW.
- - Added RealMobHealth support, but Blizzard recently blocked/changed it, I'll see how it goes
- - Added option to put Guildname below or above the level/race/class line (by request)
- - Added more option for displaying PvP rank (Options / General / NameType) to display rank only with number, or to set RankName to gray, to display with number as well and also to make the servername gray, so the playername stands out more (by request)
For Target of Target - Instead of a showing this information in the existing tooltip (First line, second line, last) would it be possible to create an entirely new, smaller tooltip that pops up below the existing tooltip - It could even mirror the same settings as the main tooltip.
As far as existing functionality, is there a way to center the text in the tooltip?
Thanks for the great work I really enjoy the mod.
In reply to brother3three:
I'm not the original author, I'm just fixed it for classic and added some minor change and functionality.
I'll look into the center thing... do you want all text in it to be centered or just specific lines?
I can make the targeting line to go to the very bottom with maybe an empty line or horizontal separator the order is important, but if you want it below the bars, or even in a different tooltip, that can also be tricky, I havent analysed the addon as much yet, and sometimes can collide with other tooltip modifier addons.
If I can, then I'll add a center target tooltip texts option to the settings in the next version if I won't forget
I'm running Elvui and scaling isn't sticky. Setting the scale to 1.3 and everything is great for me. Reloading the user interface or closing the game and it goes back to 1.0. Easy fix is to just open TipTac Options and it instantly goes back to 1.3.
In reply to marstech1:
I'll check what's happening upon options opening, and I'll try to apply scaling the same way at addon load. However its possible that it does load 1.3 but another addon loads after this and sets it back to 1.0. I have different scaling and always applies well on startup. Even titanpanel changes tooltip scaling well. I think there is an option in tiptac or other addons to keep default scaling and dont change it.
Does this command fixes the scaling when its not right?:
/run tt:ApplySettings()

Great addon by the way! No, that command doesn't correct the scale. I just started the game fresh and pasted that command. Thanks.

I went through all the addons one by one this morning. It was a conflict with Leatrix Plus. "Enhance tooltip" was checked. Unticking that and TipTac works flawlessly again. Thanks again!
Like many other addons, backdrop bugs happen even here too. Other than that its working.
Great addon, thanks for making it work in Classic!
One issue I'm seeing: The "Hide Faction Text" option in "Special" doesn't seem to work; faction text is always hidden, whether the box is checked or not.
In reply to Forge_User_52374695:
As I see, the "PvP" line removal works fine (on npcs) and the faction does the same, if there is a line as "Alliance" or "Horde", it removes those lines, works fine. IF there are nothing to remove or there are no such lines in the tooltip by default then it does nothing... so maybe it is possible that the tooltip has no such faction lines, and that option does not adds it, it just picks the default tooltip and if checked then removes those lines if found.
In reply to Forge_User_00489225:
I see, that makes sense. Thanks for responding!
I've not done any extensive testing, but I did notice today that when someone links an item in /2, and I click on it, the icon graphic is messed up. It shows double. Just leaving a note that it's happening, not a big deal.
EDIT: Nope, it's not tiptac, it's something else. I'm an idiot.
In reply to danejasho:
Hm I havent seen it happen yet. MAybe another adon also adds an icon but to a different position... can you check if it happens when only tiptac runs (all other addon disabled or temporarily removed from interface)?
In reply to Forge_User_00489225:
Well, I'm not too bright. You were right, there was another addon causing this issue (I don't know what yet). Tiptac works just fine. Sorry about that, I hate being 'that guy'.
Hi
If i have myself targetet i can se cooldown numbers on like regrowth in the tooltip but if i target something els i cant se any cooldown numbers.
Anyone know if i get the the cooldown numbers on all targets?
In reply to daols81:
you should see your own buffs' or hots cooldowns on others, but unless an addon tracks who casted on who and when, it is not possible to query someone else's buffs' duration. When someone else placed it, and we query it with APPI command it always returns as if it's at 100% duration.
how can I show icon in title line? is it possible?
when I hover to the item, Icon is be top left side
I wanna show icon in title line like the TinyTooltip
In reply to classe82:
you mean inside the tooltip, just before the name row (and pushing name to the right)? Maybe show pic how?
I can add an option to move it inside or maybe to the topright corner
In reply to Forge_User_00489225:
Thank you for feedback
Yes, I mean right that!
now is this
It's not fit and comfortable when I see to compare my item
So I'd appreciate if you add that option
Thank you!!
In reply to classe82:
Ah you mean item icons.. I tought class icons (when enabled) in player tooltips... I'll check how it is now
