ThreatMaster
ThreatMaster is a lightweight World of Warcraft threat-awareness addon designed to make it immediately obvious when enemies are safely controlled by a tank, when threat is becoming unstable, and when a non-tank has pulled aggro.
Rather than replacing Blizzard’s entire nameplate system, ThreatMaster adds clear threat-focused visual cues on top of the existing UI.
Role-Aware Threat Colors
ThreatMaster automatically detects whether your current specialization is a tank or non-tank role and changes its threat logic accordingly.
For tanks:
-
Bright Green — You have aggro.
-
Dark Green — Another tank has aggro.
-
Yellow — Threat is becoming unstable or a non-tank is approaching aggro.
-
Red — A non-tank currently has aggro.
For DPS and healers:
-
Green — Threat is safe.
-
Yellow — You are approaching aggro.
-
Red — You currently have aggro.
This means another tank taunting a boss or picking up a pack does not trigger an unnecessary emergency warning.
Customizable Threat Outlines
ThreatMaster uses the outline around enemy health bars as its primary threat indicator, allowing the normal health bar to remain readable.
You can customize:
-
Threat colors
-
Outline thickness
-
Outline position
-
Outline opacity
-
Warning thresholds
-
Flash speed
-
Pulse count
-
Alert intensity
Threat Gain and Loss Alerts
ThreatMaster can flash or pulse nameplate outlines when important threat changes occur.
Tank-to-tank threat changes are intentionally treated as safe and can either remain silent or use a mild optional notification.
Urgent alerts are reserved for situations where threat moves toward or onto a non-tank.
Party and Raid Frame Aggro Alerts
When you are playing a tank, ThreatMaster can highlight the party or raid frame of a non-tank who currently has aggro.
This gives tanks an immediate answer to:
Who needs help right now?
The warning appears directly around the player’s group-frame health bar, so friendly nameplates do not need to be enabled.
Mouseover Taunt Assist
ThreatMaster includes a secure Taunt Assist keybind for tanks.
Simply:
-
Mouse over a player’s party or raid frame.
-
Press your configured Taunt Assist key.
-
ThreatMaster attempts to cast your taunt on that player’s current target.
This lets you react quickly to a DPS or healer pulling aggro without manually finding and targeting the enemy first.
ThreatMaster automatically detects common tank taunts, including abilities such as:
-
Taunt
-
Growl
-
Hand of Reckoning
-
Dark Command
-
Provoke
-
Torment
The addon never automatically casts a taunt. The player always chooses when to use the keybind.
Lightweight by Design
ThreatMaster is intentionally focused on threat awareness rather than trying to replace every feature of a full nameplate addon.
Its goal is simple:
Green means the mob is where it belongs.
Yellow means pay attention.
Red means the wrong person has aggro.
Commands
/threatmaster
or
/threat
opens the ThreatMaster settings.
Current Limitation
World of Warcraft may not expose another group member’s threat state to addons until your character is also participating in combat. Because of this, party and raid frame aggro alerts may not appear immediately when another player pulls an enemy before you enter combat.
This is a limitation of the game’s available threat information rather than an automatic combat decision made by ThreatMaster.
