What's new

Changelog

v1.0.0 - 2026-10-12

Changed

  • Automatic /who scans now run at most every 10 seconds instead of every 5, and the new option "Seconds between /who scans" lets you pick anything from 5 to 60 seconds.
  • Chat announcements now default to the first player of each leaderboard only: the global and class top N sliders start at 1, like the race one. Existing installs keep the top N values they already have.
  • The guild hears far less from the addon. The game client scrolls the chat window for every addon message sent to the guild although the message itself is never shown, so the addon now only announces itself to the guild at login and about once an hour, to meet the guild members who run it. Dings and leaderboards reach those members by whisper from then on, like they reach every other player the addon traded with before. Before, every ding and a sync round every 5 minutes went through the guild.
  • The debug window lists at most 20 players of a received or sent batch, then how many more it held.
  • The realm channel is now the one place the addon syncs through, from login on. The guild announce, the buddy whispers and the group sync only run when the channel does not work: when the addon could not join it, or when its own channel messages stop coming back for five minutes. They start the moment that happens and stop again when the channel is back. Before, they ran next to the channel until another addon user was heard on it, which on a quiet realm or with the beta's chat lag meant most of the time.
  • Level-ups spotted in the seconds between login and the channel join now wait for the channel instead of going out by whisper.

Fixed

  • Level-ups spotted in the first minute after joining the realm channel now reach it. They wait that minute for the join sync and then went out as one message; on a busy day that was hundreds of players, the game client's channel throttle cut the message off and it was lost. They now go out 50 players at a time, a few seconds apart, and a message the channel throttle refused is sent again after a longer pause.

v0.1.0-beta16 - 2026-10-10

Changed

  • The bundled compression library (LibCompress) is updated to r87 from its new home on GitHub. Nothing changes in what the addon sends; a damaged compressed message is now dropped instead of raising an error.

v0.1.0-beta15 - 2026-10-10

Changed

  • The zone sync at login, the beacon that announced your leaderboards to the zone every minute and the shout of every new level to the zone are gone: the game client refuses addon messages to the zone (a yell), so none of them ever reached anybody. Logging in no longer waits 5 seconds for zone answers that could never come; the guild sync, the realm channel and the players your addon traded with before carry the data as before.

Fixed

  • Turning sharing on after logging in with it off now starts the sync right away. Before, the addon stayed quiet until the next login.

v0.1.0-beta14 - 2026-10-02

Added

  • The addon tells you when a newer version is out on CurseForge. Players who already updated let the others know, so from this version on you get one line in chat per session, and the options window and the minimap tooltip name the new version until you update.

Fixed

  • Leaderboards and player history sent from one player to another could arrive with pieces missing, or not at all, when the sender's addon sent several chat packets at once. The addon now sends its packets one at a time, a moment apart, so longer messages arrive whole.
  • Damaged data that still looked valid could end up in your player history, as wrong level times or names that don't exist. Every message now carries a checksum, and one that doesn't match its checksum is thrown away. Messages from players on older versions carry none, so those can still arrive damaged.
  • When something a player sent you arrives damaged, your addon notices and asks that player again about a minute later, instead of staying without that data until your next login. Both players need this version for that.
  • A history transfer now tells how many parts it has, so missing parts are noticed and fetched again.
  • A message the game client refused to send is sent again a few seconds later instead of being dropped silently, unless the client refuses everything sent that way.
  • The periodic guild sync no longer skips a round when the only answer arrives a few seconds late.

Changed

  • The debug log shows how each received message arrived (whisper, guild, shout, group or channel).

v0.1.0-beta13 - 2026-10-01

Fixed

  • Logging in after more than 3 days away no longer forgets every player your addon traded data with. The players who are online get a minute to answer first, and only those not heard from are dropped.

v0.1.0-beta12 - 2026-10-01

A repackaged v0.1.0-beta11. No changes to the addon itself.

v0.1.0-beta11 - 2026-10-01

The leaderboards now stay in step across the whole realm through a hidden chat channel, and keeping them in step costs far less once many players use the addon.

Added

  • Every WoWForeverRace user of your faction now shares one hidden chat channel. A new level or leaderboard entry anybody spots reaches everyone on the realm within seconds, wherever they are, with one small message. The channel is joined a few seconds after login, shows up in no chat window and is gone when you remove the addon.
  • About once per hour, and right after you log in, your leaderboards are compared with the channel and traded with one other player to catch whatever was missed.
  • Every player heard on the channel is remembered for 3 days, so your addon can keep trading data with them by whisper when the channel is quiet.
  • The debug window shows the state of the realm channel.
  • The options window shows the addon version.

Changed

  • While the channel carries traffic, the older ways of syncing (shouts to the zone, guild, party / raid and whispers to players you met) stay quiet. They take over again when nobody is heard on the channel, or when you are not in it: after you /leave it, or when you were banned from it. Players who are not on the channel are still answered.
  • A party or raid whose members know different players gets in step within a minute instead of several, with a fraction of the addon traffic: only the member who asked and one other member send what is missing, to the whole group at once, instead of every pair of members trading their leaderboards.
  • Guild members no longer all fetch missing leaderboards from the same member. Each picks a random one of those who offered, so one player no longer has to serve the whole guild.
  • In a crowded zone you ask for the leaderboards of at most one player every 10 seconds instead of answering every player who announces theirs, and you no longer shout leaderboards to the zone that another player just shouted.

Fixed

  • Turning off Debug Mode in the addon settings no longer throws a Lua error.

v0.1.0-beta10 - 2026-09-29

Party and raid members now keep their leaderboards in step with each other.

Changed

  • Grouping up with another WoWForeverRace user keeps your leaderboards in step with theirs. They are compared right after you log in or /reload in a group, not only when someone joins or leaves, and again every 5 minutes while you stay grouped.
  • A new level or leaderboard entry you spot is sent straight to your party or raid, so group members outside yell range see it right away.

v0.1.0-beta9 - 2026-09-25

The leaderboards now fill from data the client already has, not just from /who scans.

Added

  • Your guild roster feeds the leaderboards. Every guild member lands on the overall, class and race boards at their exact level, offline members included, the moment you log in. A guildie's ding shows up right away instead of on the next scan that happens to cover their class.
  • Your party and raid members feed the leaderboards the same way, with their class and player race, and a level-up in the group is picked up on the spot.
  • Your own level-ups carry your player race, so you land on your race leaderboard without waiting for a scan.
  • Dev command /wfr roster reads the guild roster and your group into the leaderboards on demand, and /wfr status opens in a copyable window.

Fixed

  • Your own character was tracked under its first name only ("Offroad"), next to the full "Offroad Hunt" entry everyone else sees. Your own dings, the "you" marker in the leaderboard window and the chat announcements now use the full name. Existing data keeps the old entry until a reset.

v0.1.0-beta8 - 2026-09-22

Added

  • Scans also run on key presses (option "Scan on key presses", on by default), so the leaderboards fill up while you level instead of only on clicks.

v0.1.0-beta7 - 2026-09-21

Added

  • Leaderboards for every player race of your faction, next to the overall and class ones, with race icons in the status window and a "Race top N" chat announcement slider.

Changed

  • Scans run three times as often.
  • Each class and race is scanned from its top level downwards, so the top players are found first and a full /who list settles on the right floor faster.

Fixed

  • Race data is only accepted from players of the own faction.

v0.1.0-beta6 - 2026-09-21

Changed

  • Releases are packaged for the WoW Forever game type and uploaded to CurseForge.

v0.1.0-beta5 - 2026-09-21

Changed

  • The race is measured from the official WoW Forever launch. Beta data from before the launch is dropped once the launch has passed, so the released race starts from fresh leaderboards.
  • Debug output goes to the debug window instead of the chat frame.

Added

  • Dev-only API probe window (/wfr probe).

v0.1.0-beta4 - 2026-09-21

Added

  • Scrollable, copyable debug log window (/wfr debug).

v0.1.0-beta3 - 2026-09-21

Changed

  • The first scan of a session is an unfiltered probe that estimates where each class fits under the 50 row /who cap, so class scans start at a useful level instead of at the bottom.

v0.1.0-beta2 - 2026-09-20

Added

  • Project logo, also used as the in-game and minimap icon.

Changed

  • WoW Forever only: support for the other WoW clients and their expansions is removed.
  • Licensed under MIT, crediting TheClassicRace.

v0.1.0-beta1 - 2026-09-17

First WoWForeverRace release, based on TheClassicRace by Ruben de Vries.

Added

  • Targets WoW Forever: the race goes to level 60, Paladins and Shamans are tracked on both factions.
  • Addon messages in instance groups go to the instance chat.
  • Dev commands /wfr help and /wfr status.

Fixed

  • Player data from other addon users is validated before it reaches the leaderboards: forged timestamps, fractional levels and nameless entries are dropped.
  • Sync hashes only cover the classes a peer tracks, so peers on a different class list no longer mismatch forever.
  • The /who result count was read the wrong way round, which made complete results look cut off.
  • Lua error when announcing a ding for a player of unknown class.
  • Every remaining TheClassicRace name in user-facing text.
