Catalyst Origin

Catalyst Origin is a lightweight World of Warcraft addon that shows which original item was converted into a Tier Set piece using the Catalyst.

In Midnight Season 2, Catalyst-converted items can retain characteristics from their original item, including secondary stats, tertiary stats and cantrips. However, once an item has been converted, the default Blizzard tooltip does not clearly tell you what the Tier piece originally was.

Catalyst Origin adds that missing information directly to the item tooltip.

What it shows

When you hover over a supported Catalyst-converted Tier piece, Catalyst Origin adds a section directly underneath the item name:

Converted from: Original Item Name
Original item ID: 123456

The rest of the normal Blizzard tooltip then continues underneath.

How does it work?

Midnight Season 2 Catalyst-converted items can contain a special item-link modifier that identifies the item's original source.

Catalyst Origin reads this information directly from the item and resolves the original item automatically.

This means the addon does not need to be installed before you use the Catalyst.

You can install Catalyst Origin after an item has already been converted and, if the required source information is still present in the item, the addon can identify its original item.

Example

You obtain an item from Mythic+ and later convert it into a Tier piece using the Catalyst.

The normal tooltip only shows the resulting Tier item.

With Catalyst Origin installed, the tooltip will additionally show:

Catalyst Origin
Converted from: [Original Mythic+ Item]
Original item ID: XXXXXX

This can be particularly useful when comparing gear, tracking items with special effects or cantrips, or simply trying to remember where a converted Tier piece originally came from.

Slash commands

/catorigin

Displays the current Catalyst Origin status.

You can also use:

/catalystorigin

Both commands perform the same function.

Installation

Install through CurseForge normally, or manually place the CatalystOrigin folder inside:

World of Warcraft\_retail_\Interface\AddOns\

Then restart World of Warcraft or enter:

/reload

Make sure Catalyst Origin is enabled in the AddOns menu.

Notes

Catalyst Origin does not create or maintain its own history of Catalyst conversions.

Instead, it reads the source information contained in the item itself. Because of this, the addon is extremely lightweight and does not need to monitor your gameplay or record conversions as they happen.
