Simon's Buff Reminder

Customizable reminders for missing or expiring buffs, with clickable icons, group checks, animated borders and shareable profiles.
# Simon's Buff Reminder

**Missing buff? Make it visible.**

Simon's Buff Reminder brings missing and expiring buffs into view with large, customizable icons. Keep an eye on Shadowform, Fortitude, Battle Shout, rogue poisons and other supported class buffs without filling your screen with extra text.

Built for **World of Warcraft Retail**, with settings inside the game's own Options menu. No minimap button and no external addon libraries required.

## Make your reminders your own

- **Animated borders:** choose a color, pulse speed, border width and opacity.
- **Flexible layouts:** adjust icon size, spacing, columns and the position of the whole group.
- **Individual controls:** enable or disable each reminder, change its order, resize it or drag it to a custom position.
- **Stable icon positions:** active buffs disappear without shifting the remaining reminders around. Shadowform shares the same grid as your other buffs.
- **Preview mode:** display and move all selected reminders without casting a spell.
- **Minimal text:** spell names and tooltips are optional and disabled by default.

## Know when a buff needs attention

- Show reminders for missing buffs and, when duration data is available, buffs nearing expiration.
- Set an early-warning threshold, or set it to zero to track missing buffs only.
- Optionally check supported raid buffs on visible, living, connected party and raid members.
- Hide reminders while mounted or resting, or show them only while grouped or inside a dungeon or raid.
- Enable an optional sound alert with a configurable cooldown.

Group tracking supports **Power Word: Fortitude, Battle Shout, Arcane Intellect, Mark of the Wild, Blessing of the Bronze and Skyfury**. Each character tracks the supported buffs they can cast; this is not a full raid-wide buff dashboard.

## Built-in class reminders

- **Priest:** Power Word: Fortitude and Shadowform.
- **Warrior:** Battle Shout.
- **Rogue:** supported lethal and non-lethal poisons, with selection limits based on your learned talents.
- **Mage:** Arcane Intellect.
- **Druid:** Mark of the Wild.
- **Evoker:** Blessing of the Bronze.
- **Shaman:** Skyfury, supported shields and temporary weapon enchants.
- **Paladin:** supported auras and weapon rites.

The catalog contains 27 entries. Only spells available to your character, specialization, talents and equipment are enabled automatically. It is not an exhaustive list of every buff in the game.

## Add your own reminders

Use **Spell browser** to choose a known spell and its active buff without typing spell IDs. For a new custom reminder, apply the buff first so you can select its actual aura. Built-in reminders can be enabled directly from the spell list.

The **Advanced** editor supports manual spell IDs, alternate aura IDs and weapon-enchantment tracking. You can create up to 30 custom reminders per specialization.

## Click to buff

Outside combat, left-click a reminder to cast its configured spell on yourself. Shadowform also has a secure clickable reminder during combat.

For other buffs, combat reminders are visual by default. Enable **Clickable combat bar** to use a separate set of fixed, preconfigured spell buttons in combat. Active buffs stay dimmed in that bar; missing or expiring buffs are highlighted. Shadowform hides when active.

Every cast requires your click and remains subject to the game's normal casting rules. The addon never casts automatically.

## Profiles you can reuse

- Spell selections, ordering and individual icon styles are saved per specialization.
- Appearance and alert preferences are shared across a character's specializations.
- Save up to 30 named profiles for other characters on the same account.
- Export and import profiles as text, with an Undo import option.
- Copy a full profile between characters of the same class, or use **Appearance only** to copy preferences across classes without replacing spell selections.

## Getting started

1. Install the addon and log in to WoW Retail.
2. Open **Options → AddOns → Simon's Buff Reminder**, or type **`/sbr`**.
3. Choose your reminders in **Spells**.
4. Adjust the layout in **Appearance**, then use **Preview all** to position your icons.
5. Set expiration warnings, group checks, filters and sounds in **Alerts**.

The legacy commands `/bw` and `/buffwatch` also work. All addon controls and built-in labels are English; custom spell names can follow your game client's language.

### Manual installation and updates

Close WoW and extract the `BuffWatch` folder into `World of Warcraft/_retail_/Interface/AddOns/`. The resulting path must be `AddOns/BuffWatch/BuffWatch.toc`.

Keep the internal folder name **BuffWatch** when updating: it preserves existing saved settings. If you still use the earlier, separate Shadowform Alert addon, disable it to avoid duplicate reminders.

## Retail API limits and beta status

Blizzard can restrict buff information, especially in combat or certain instances. Unreadable information is treated as **Unknown**, not as a missing buff. An unreadable duration does not trigger an expiration warning. Group checks cannot verify players who are out of view.

Secure buttons cannot be freely rearranged during combat. Settings and preview close when combat starts. Resting and instance filters on secure buttons update outside combat; mounted and grouped conditions also use secure visibility rules.

**4.0.1-beta is a public testing build.** Lua loading and simulated-API regression checks pass. Rendering, actual spell casts and behavior across live Retail encounters still require in-game validation. Classic clients are not supported by this build.

## Feedback and bug reports

Please use the project's comments to report issues. Include your addon version, WoW build, class and specialization, the affected spell, whether you were in combat or an instance, and steps to reproduce the problem. Include the Lua error if one appears.

To display your WoW build: `/run print(GetBuildInfo())`.

To show Lua errors: `/console scriptErrors 1`, followed by `/reload`.
