Description
The problem with RP in a busy area (such as Stormwind on Moonguard), is you end up juggling multiple addons or maybe even a word processor outside of WoW. One to keep track of who's talking, one to draft your post, and one to chop it up into parts to get past WoW's character limit. Half the time you're scrolling back through a wall of unrelated world RPs or trade chat trying to work out who said what.
I got tired of that, so I built Scriptorium.
It's one addon, shaped like a book. The left page listens, the right page writes, and the part I actually care about is that the two pages talk to each other.
The left page: listening
It shows you the scene. The people around you, their say and emotes laid out clean and color-coded so you can actually follow three people talking at once. Follow specific folks or just listen to everyone nearby, and it quietly keeps the noisy public channels (Trade, General, all that) out of the way unless you ask for them.
It keeps a log too, sorted by day, that you can scroll back through and search by name, by channel, or by whatever someone said. Handy for when you missed the start of a scene, or you just want to reread something good later.
Running TRP3, MRP, or XRP? It'll show RP names and icons. If you're not, it falls back to normal names and class colors.
The right page: writing
This is where you write, and you can go as long as you want. Scriptorium handles going past the 255-character limit for you. It splits your post cleanly, sends the pieces in order without spamming the channel, and marks them however you like. You set the little (1/3) markers yourself, and even a different one for the last post if that's your style.
Drafts are proper drafts: save them, search them, load them back, and there's an undo if you delete one by accident. There's a history of what you've sent, and spell-check with a dictionary you can teach your own lore words to.
The bit that ties it together
Writing in whispers? Click someone on the left and they become who you're writing to on the right, tinted their color. Read a whisper, reply to it, all from the same book, and it never touches your normal chat frames, so nothing you're used to changes.
A few notes
- Light theme and dark theme.
- Open it from a minimap button or a little button by your chat.
- Nothing scary under the hood. It's all just chat and frames, nothing that pokes at the protected side of the game.
That's it, really. I made this for my own RP and figured other people might get some use out of it. If something breaks or you've got an idea, drop a comment.
