ForeverScavenger — Player Guide
Group scavenger hunts for World of Warcraft. One player builds a route of
clues, pushes it to the group with one button, and everybody searches at the
same time. The host watches a live scoreboard.
Runs on every currently playable client — Forever, Retail, Midnight, Mists,
Cata, Wrath, Classic Era and TBC Anniversary.
What it does
A host authors a hunt, shares it over the addon channel, and starts it for
everyone simultaneously. Each client checks its own clue locally and reports
finds back, so the host sees who is where without anyone sending screenshots.
Participants only need the addon installed. They receive the hunt on send and
cannot see it until start — before that there is nothing on their side to
peek at.
Clue types
| Type | What the player must do | Checked with |
|---|---|---|
| Position | stand at a spot | real distance to the exact coordinates |
| Zone | be anywhere in a zone | current map ID |
| Item | hold an item | GetItemCount(id) > 0 |
| Quest | have a quest completed | IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(id) |
Item and quest clues need a numeric ID — no names, no wildcards. IDs come
from the Wowhead URL (/item=2589/linen-cloth). Non-numeric input is rejected
when the clue is created, so you cannot accidentally author a clue that can
never be solved.
Item clues check for at least one in the bag. There is no "collect 10"
quantity.
Hot/cold tracking
Position clues store the real coordinates, so the tracker shows the actual
distance and a temperature word that updates as you walk:
Burning < 1% Hot < 3% Warm < 8% Cold < 20% Freezing
Arrival tolerance defaults to 0.5% of map width (roughly 25 metres in a
large zone) and is configurable.
Be aware that coordinates are stored in plain text. Anyone who reads the export
string, or digs through the addon's saved data, can see the answers. That is
fine for an event among friends — but a tournament with prizes needs someone
refereeing it.
Quick start
Host, building the route alone beforehand:
/fsh new Hyjal Run create a hunt
/fsh host open the editor
Then walk to each location and press Add clue at my spot, after typing the
clue text and an optional hint. Or by command:
/fsh mark Where the guards never sleep
/fsh item 2589 Bring me a piece of linen cloth
/fsh quest 8342 Finish this quest
Running the event, with the group assembled:
/fsh send distribute the hunt
/fsh start start signal for everyone
/fsh scores live ranking
/fsh stop end the event
All commands
/fsh toggle the tracker
/fsh host editor
/fsh new <title> new hunt
/fsh mark <text> clue at the current position
/fsh item <id> <text> item clue (numeric item ID)
/fsh quest <id> <text> quest clue (numeric quest ID)
/fsh list clues of the current hunt
/fsh send distribute to the group
/fsh start / stop start / end the event
/fsh export [chat] hunt string to copy (chat = dump to chat)
/fsh import <string> load a hunt string
/fsh solo run a loaded hunt alone
/fsh scores ranking
/fsh where your own position (authoring aid)
/fsh lock / reset window
Sharing hunts
Export in the editor, or /fsh export, opens a box with the hunt string —
Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C to copy. The character count is reported in chat so you can tell
something was actually produced. If the box still looks empty,/fsh export chat dumps the string into chat in 200-character blocks.
Load a received string with /fsh import <string>, or the Import button in the
editor.
If an imported string is rejected with checksum mismatch, it was damaged
in copying. Have it re-exported from the original character — a mangled string
cannot be repaired.
Questions that always come up
I have the participant version and /fsh start does nothing. Correct —
hosting needs the host version. To start your own run, import a hunt and use/fsh solo.
Do I need to be in a group? For a shared event yes, and raid works the same
way. To run a finished hunt by yourself: /fsh solo.
Do participants need the route beforehand? No, just the addon. They receive
the hunt on send and cannot see it until start.
Can I keep a hunt? Yes, hunts are saved. To pass one on use /fsh export;
the recipient uses /fsh import.
Where do I find item and quest IDs? Wowhead puts the ID in the URL:wowhead.com/item=2589/linen-cloth → 2589.
Does the addon show me the way? No — deliberately no waypoint on the
target, that would turn a scavenger hunt into a GPS route. You get the hot/cold
readout with the real distance instead.
