# RP Toolkit — Public Changelog
## 0.5.0-beta1 — 2026-10-20
**Public beta update since 0.12.0-beta2 (2026-10-02).** This release is based on the tested `0.5.0-dev5` source. The version series was deliberately reset to `0.5.0`; no SavedVariables reset is required. This is a beta release, not a final feature-complete build.
### Atlas and World Maps
- Expanded WoW Forever lore exploration coverage with **385 Kalimdor** and **332 Eastern Kingdoms** researched landmark pins, with short public descriptions, map-placement improvements, and preservation of existing user-calibrated coordinate priority.
- Improved map marker symbols, legends, live-player and party markers, Saved Place pins, and historical Dossier sighting markers.
- Added and refined experimental **WoW Forever quest markers** on fullscreen Atlas, including displayed objective text when available, click-to-track selection, selected-quest highlighting, cache stability, and source-map coordinate projection safeguards. Quest objective-area overlays remain limited/experimental.
- Added experimental **TRP3 native Atlas scanning** when a compatible, enabled Total RP 3 scanner is available; ephemeral scan results are not saved as player tracking.
### Journal and optional TRP3 Extended
- Added a **formatted Journal editor** with headings, paragraph alignment, text colors, lists, a scrollable source field, preview, and **Apply Draft** followed by ordinary **Save Entry**. Existing plain-text entries are retained.
- Added optional Journal **icon and client-image insertion** with visual galleries. Search/catalog coverage and client assets vary; this is not a general image uploader.
- Improved TRP3 Extended item publishing and importing, including formatting compatibility fallbacks, source round-trip metadata when an item remains unchanged, and more useful in-addon diagnostics. TRP3 Extended remains optional.
### Personal Backup & Restore
- Added Settings → **Backup & Restore** for account-wide personal RP Toolkit SavedVariables exports. Ordinary-sized backups support **one selection/copy into a text file** and **one paste/verify**; very large backups use multiple bounded transfer pages.
- Uses safe `RPTKB1~` text transport to avoid WoW's pipe-control formatting issue, with compatibility for intact older `RPTKB1|` exports.
- Backup verification validates completeness, integrity and schema before offering **whole-database replacement**, which requires a separate explicit confirmation and reload. This is **not a merge** and is **not encrypted**. Save copies privately.
- **Live beta status:** Creating/copying/pasting and **Verify & Preview** were observed working in WoW Forever. A full real-client Restore & Reload recovery has not yet been independently confirmed in the release handoff. Make a manual SavedVariables copy before testing it with valuable records.
### Local-first Guild features and quality-of-life
- Added local guild roster search/sorting, read-only roster context, and private local main/alt links, RP Directory details, Guild Places, Stories and Events tied to existing records. Guild-wide sync/sharing and officer operations remain disabled; data is not broadcast automatically.
- Added and refined fullscreen Atlas **Create Entry** flows for staging Saved Places, Journals and Dossiers from map positions, with explicit saving required.
- Continued compatibility improvements for WoW Forever versus Retail map APIs, names, player identity, UI behavior and SavedVariables. No destructive SavedVariables schema migration.
### Notes and limitations
- **Two folders ship together:** `RPToolkit` and `RPToolkit_UserSymbols`. Preserve custom `Custom02.tga`–`Custom50.tga` files before replacing the symbols directory manually.
- The shipped WoW Forever lore is **still included in the main addon**. A separately updateable lore pack is planned, but **not included in this release**.
- The format editor currently applies to **Journal** entries; Dossier notes and Saved Place descriptions remain plain text.
- The included lore is primarily oriented to the **WoW Forever launch-era world**, and should not be treated as a current Retail story chronology.
