Your bags are full again. Is that Light Leather worth keeping? Will your alchemist alt want those Swiftthistles? Reagent Scout answers right on the item tooltip: which professions use the item, at what skill level, where each recipe is learned, and which class spells need it. Anything nobody uses is marked, so you know it's safe to sell.
Works with the addons you already use
Reagent Scout adds its lines to the game's own item tooltips, so it fits right in with popular addons:
- TipTac (and TipTacItemRef): styled tooltips work as usual, and so do TipTac's tooltips when you hover a link in chat. Shift and Ctrl update them straight away.
- Bagnon: hover anything in your Bagnon bags or bank and the info is there. Shift and Ctrl update the tooltip without moving the mouse.
- Auctionator: check what an item is used for before you buy or post it at the auction house.
- Plus the default bags, bank, vendors, loot and chat links, and any other addon that uses the standard item tooltip.
No other addon is required.
Features
- Professions at a glance. Each profession that uses the item, with how many recipes and the skill range.
- Hold Shift for details. Every recipe with the skill needed and where to learn it: trainer, vendor (with the vendor's name, zone and faction), drop (which mob, where), quest reward or container.
- Hold Shift+Ctrl for everything. Long lists are trimmed to keep tooltips tidy. Add Ctrl to see every recipe and every vendor or drop source.
- Colored by your skill. For professions you have, recipes show red (skill too low), orange, yellow, green or gray, like the profession window.
- Class spells too. Light Feathers, Soul Shards, Arcane Powder, candles, runes, seeds, Ankhs, Flash Powder and more show which class spells use them and at what level. Your class is listed first.
- Knows what you know. A green check marks recipes and spells you already have. Hover a recipe item to see if you know it, can learn it now, or how much skill you still need.
- Your alts too. Recipe items also show the status for each of your other characters, so you know which alt to mail it to.
- "Not used by any profession or class spell" on trade goods and junk that nothing uses, so selling is an easy call.
- Make it yours. A full settings window lets you choose summary or detailed tooltips, how many lines to list, which professions to show (only yours, or untick any you'll never learn), class spells (all classes or just yours), alts, recipe sources, skill coloring, and the hint and legend lines. A reset button puts everything back to the defaults.
- Minimap button. Left-click opens the settings, right-click turns Reagent Scout's tooltip lines on or off in a flash, and its tooltip shows what's on. There's also a key binding and an entry in Options → AddOns.
- Over 1,250 profession recipes from Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Cooking, Enchanting, Engineering, First Aid, Leatherworking, Mining, Poisons and Tailoring.
How to use
Hover any item. Hold Shift for the details, Shift+Ctrl for everything. Type /rscout to open the settings window, or use the minimap button or Options → AddOns → Reagent Scout. Type /rscout help for the chat commands.
Open each profession window once on each character so Reagent Scout can read which recipes you know. After that, new recipes are picked up as you learn them.
Where the data comes from
Recipes, reagents, difficulty colors and class spells come straight from the game's own data. Trainer skill requirements and where each recipe is found (vendors, drops, quests and containers) come from two independent open-source World of Warcraft databases, checked against each other, so a fact is used when both agree. Profession and class names are matched in English, so Reagent Scout is meant for English game clients.
Credits
Reagent Scout was designed and written by me, Jimmy Jones. Recipe source data comes from the CMaNGOS Classic-DB and VMaNGOS projects. A big thank you to both and their contributors. Disclaimer
Reagent Scout is one of a few addons I came up with to make quality of life easier for myself while playing WoW Classic Era. The idea and design are my own, and no other author's addon code or artwork is used. To make sure it works smoothly with TipTac, I looked at how TipTac shows chat link tooltips, but none of its code is included.
Made for WoW Classic Era. Free and open source under the GNU General Public License v3, so it will always stay free for everyone.
