QFXTip_3.5.4
What's new
3.5.4
- Support WoW 12.1.5 and reject secret values before nil comparisons in compatibility queries.
- Support QFXAddonManager hosted settings while retaining standalone operation.
- Publish tagged releases automatically to GitHub and CurseForge project 1585238.
QFXTip 3.5.3
- Added regional Mythic+ rank to player tooltips when a matching QFXMythicRankData pack is available.
- Reused low-score cutoff nodes, prevented duplicate rank rows, and limited cursor-anchor updates to visible tooltips.
QFXTip 3.4.3
- Fixed "Attempt to access forbidden object from code tainted by an AddOn" when hovering a Blizzard nameplate aura inside instanced content: the GameTooltip_SetDefaultAnchor hook no longer passes protected nameplate-owned frames back into SetOwner.
- Added forbidden-object and secret-value guards for the tooltip and its anchor owner before any re-anchor.
QFXTip 3.4.2
- Restored immediate hiding of NPC unit tooltips on fade-out, matching the player tooltip mouse-leave behavior.
- Attached cursor-anchored tooltip corners directly to the cursor hotspot without extra pixel offsets.
- Added idTip attribution for the ID display subsystem in README.md and THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md.
- Removed dead code: the unused IdUtils file, leftover mount-highlight settings and locale entries, the orphaned hyperlink ID entry point, and other unreferenced helpers.
- Reused the NPC unit resolution pass for the classification row to avoid duplicate protected unit lookups per unit tooltip.
QFXTip 3.4.1
- Added localized Rare, Rare Elite, Elite, and World Boss classifications to unit tooltips, with live refresh when unit classification changes.
- Added four cursor anchors that attach the tooltip's top-left, top-right, bottom-left, or bottom-right corner to the mouse; bottom-left is the default.
- Added engine-side aura Spell ID rendering so Buff and Debuff IDs remain visible during combat under WoW 12.1.0 secret-value restrictions.
- Replaced global tooltip/frame scanning with targeted TooltipDataProcessor callbacks and removed redundant hyperlink processing.
- Coalesced ID layout refreshes, reduced hot-path temporary allocations, and limited duplicate-line scans to recent tooltip rows.
- Added short-lived player mount-result caching and relaxed group item-level pre-warming to a 3-second initial delay with 5-second member intervals.
- Removed full item-level cache pruning from cache reads and throttled the public-cache date check.
- Reduced repeated combat-state queries, player-tooltip text normalization, queued Inspect equipment scans, and disabled item-detail lookups.
- Right-aligned plain mount source values such as Special and In-Game Shop with the other mount detail rows.
- Replaced the corner faction marker with a centered, color-tinted Alliance or Horde character-select watermark behind player tooltip text.
- Dropped WoW 12.0.5 and 12.0.7 support; QFXTip now targets WoW 12.1.0 exclusively.
- Migrated item, spell, gem, icon, and item-level lookups to the 12.1.0 C_Item and C_Spell APIs without legacy global fallbacks.
- Replaced the unavailable C_Inspect.GetItemLevel path with C_PaperDollInfo.GetInspectItemLevel.
- Removed legacy UnitAura, UnitBuff, UnitDebuff, Classic, and TBC compatibility branches.
- Standardized GameTooltip processing on the 12.1.0 TooltipDataProcessor flow.
QFXTip 3.3.51
- Added WoW 12.1.0 Interface compatibility.
- Hardened unit class, group membership, GUID, and guild lookups against 12.1.0 secret values and compound-unit restrictions.
- Disabled indexed mount-aura scanning in restricted contexts where 12.1.0 forbids addon aura access.
- Filtered secret return values from shared safe-call helpers before they reach tooltip formatting code.
QFXTip 3.3.50
- Fixed world map tooltip backdrops not resizing to include the added quest ID.
- Fixed possible tooltip flickering when hovering world quests, area POIs, and map markers.
- Prevented deferred tooltip refreshes from affecting a reused world map tooltip.
- Prevented player-tooltip fade state from hiding subsequent non-player tooltips.
QFXTip 3.3.49
- Moved player faction display into a large translucent built-in Alliance/Horde background on player tooltips, hiding standalone faction rows.
- Split Item Bonus into its own ID Display option and leave it disabled by default.
- Added bounded item-level, public-player, and mount-source caches to prevent long-session tooltip memory growth.
- Reused item tooltip parsing scratch tables to reduce short-lived Lua allocations during frequent item hover.
- Removed the remaining client marker/LFG marker code and media asset so no server or client marker display remains.
- Aligned mount-source fields into left label and right value columns when Blizzard returns label/value source text.
- Preserved embedded money/icon texture tags in mount-source values while parsing labels for column alignment.
- Stripped inherited color escape codes from mount-source values so right-column text stays white.
QFXTip 3.3.48
- Removed the item-level color string cache added in 3.3.45. Item-level colors are now calculated on demand to avoid the small permanent session memory growth.
- Kept the other 3.3.45 performance optimizations, including per-tooltip unit context reuse, batched tooltip Show calls, prebuilt group tokens, mount source caching, weak-table tooltip backdrop state, and redundant scale-apply skipping.
QFXTip 3.3.47
- Settings panel category name now uses the same localized colored display name as the addon list: zhCN QFX鼠标提示, zhTW QFX滑鼠提示, and QFXTip for other locales.
3.3.46
- Add localized colored addon-list titles: zhCN shows QFX鼠标提示, zhTW shows QFX滑鼠提示, other clients keep QFXTip.
- Add Blizzard cursor pointer texture as the addon icon through TOC IconTexture.
QFXTip 3.3.45
- Performance pass following the QFX WoW Addon UI Skill v1.14.0 refresh/event guidance.
- Added per-tooltip player context caching so one tooltip build reuses the resolved unit token instead of repeatedly scanning mouseover/party/raid/stable units.
- Added batched tooltip show requests for player-info rows so multiple appended/edited rows coalesce into one Show call where safe.
- Replaced repeated party/raid token string creation with prebuilt token tables for group lookup and item-level pre-warm.
- Cached item-level gradient color strings and mount source text to reduce repeated formatting/API work.
- Moved tooltip backdrop default storage to a weak table and skipped redundant SetScale calls when the value is unchanged.
QFXTip 3.3.44
- Changed the guild display format from Guild: Name - Rank to <Name>-Rank.
- Kept the guild line color using the Blizzard guild chat color.
QFXTip 3.3.43
- Added an optional Background & Border Opacity checkbox-slider in General settings. It is disabled by default and uses 100% opacity when enabled.
- Changed the player guild display to a single left-side line and colors it with the Blizzard guild chat color.
QFXTip 3.3.42
- Changed the default Player Information preset to enable Mount Type, Player Target, Guild, Server, Mythic+ Score, and Item Level.
- Guild Rank and Social Relationship remain disabled by default.
- Existing profiles that still matched the previous default preset are migrated to the new default without overwriting customized player-info selections.
QFXTip 3.3.41
- Changed Player Information > Server to append the realm on the player-name line as Name-Realm instead of adding a separate Server row.
- Reordered Player Information options so Guild is directly above Guild Rank.
- Guild Rank is now dependent on Guild: disabling Guild automatically disables Guild Rank and prevents old SavedVariables from showing guild/rank lines.
QFXTip 3.3.40
- Rebased on QFXTip 3.3.37; the later Unit Threat display changes are not included.
- Added Player Information checkboxes for Server and Guild.
- Server displays the hovered player's realm/server name using the player's class color.
- Guild display is now controlled by the Player Information > Guild checkbox; Guild Rank can still append rank to the visible guild line.
QFXTip 3.3.37
- Restored non-party/non-raid public-player combat Inspect behavior: world/city mouseover player item level can continue to Inspect during combat when you are not in a group.
- Kept party/raid combat safe: group members still use cache/direct group slots only and do not start NotifyInspect in combat.
- Preserved the 3.3.36 GUID-first tooltip identity and INSPECT_READY stability improvements.
QFXTip 3.3.36
- Refined player item-level combat behavior so combat never starts NotifyInspect and never adds a Loading item-level row.
- Combat item level now only displays already cached group/public values; missing cache is skipped until the next out-of-combat refresh.
- Improved tooltip unit identity resolution with GUID-first party/raid, target/focus, and UnitTokenFromGUID lookup before falling back to mouseover.
- INSPECT_READY unit resolution now uses the same stable GUID lookup path, reducing stale or cross-player item-level updates after fast mouse movement.
QFXTip 3.3.35
- Fixed a regression from the 3.3.34 cleanup where the item-level context helper IsPlayerInGroupOrRaid was removed but still called by PlayerTooltipModule.
- Restored the helper as a safe local function, fixing the nil-call error when hovering non-group players such as nameplate units.
- No feature behavior changes; party/raid cache, public daily cache, and 2-second pre-warm behavior are unchanged.
QFXTip 3.3.34
- Applied QFX WoW Addon UI Skill architecture cleanup: moved repeated safe WoW API wrappers into Utils/SafeUtils.lua so tooltip modules share one guarded call layer.
- Reduced repeated player-tooltip work by caching the social-relation text lookup instead of rebuilding it on every tooltip.
- Reduced item-level Inspect/pre-warm garbage by reusing queue/pre-warm tables and avoiding per-INSPECT_READY token-table allocation.
- Removed stale pending-tooltip unit bookkeeping and old standalone Unit Target locale text that was no longer shown after the Unit Information dropdown migration.
- Kept existing behavior: party/raid item-level cache, daily public-player cache, 2-second group/raid pre-warm, immediate tooltip hide, and combat-safe group item-level policy.
QFXTip 3.3.33
- Restored immediate player tooltip hiding when the mouse leaves a unit by forcing tracked player GameTooltip FadeOut calls to Hide immediately.
- Clears active player tooltip and pending item-level refresh state on TooltipCleared as well as OnHide, so fade-out tooltips do not keep old player text visible.
- Keeps 3.3.32 stale Inspect refresh protection and 2-second group/raid pre-warm behavior.
QFXTip 3.3.32
- Fixed delayed item level Inspect callbacks keeping or re-showing a stale player tooltip after the mouse moves to empty space.
- Background party/raid pre-warm now updates caches only and will not force-refresh GameTooltip unless the same player is still actively hovered.
- Tooltip item-level async refresh now requires an active mouseover or hovered tooltip owner frame before updating lines or calling SetUnit.
- Clears pending item-level tooltip refresh state when GameTooltip hides.
- Kept the 2-second group/raid pre-warm and Inspect throttle from 3.3.31.
QFXTip 3.3.31
- Added lightweight raid item-level pre-warming: raid members are processed gradually instead of scanning the whole raid at once.
- Unified group and raid pre-warm pacing to one member every 2 seconds.
- Pre-warming only runs out of combat, pauses during combat, and resumes after PLAYER_REGEN_ENABLED.
- Existing mouseover item-level behavior and the separate daily public-player cache from 3.3.30 are kept.
QFXTip 3.3.30
- Added a separate daily public-player item-level cache for players inspected while you are not in a party or raid.
- Public player item levels no longer reload every time you move the mouse away and back during the same day.
- Public cache is stored separately from the party/raid item-level cache and is automatically reset on the next calendar day.
- Party/raid cache behavior remains group-safe: party/raid members use the group cache, and group combat still avoids new NotifyInspect requests.
QFXTip 3.3.29
- Refined item-level Inspect behavior by player context.
- In party/raid combat, item level remains combat-safe: party/raid members read cached/direct slot values only, and no new Inspect request is started for group combat tooltips.
- Outside party/raid, public player tooltips keep the original Inspect flow even during world combat, so city/world mouseover item-level checks still work.
- Non-group public player item levels are still not written into QFXTipDB.itemLevelCache; saved cache remains limited to party/raid members.
QFXTip 3.3.28
- Restricted item-level caching to party and raid members only.
- Normal non-group player tooltips may still inspect and update the currently shown tooltip, but their item level is no longer written into QFXTipDB.itemLevelCache.
- Saved item-level cache entries now carry a group marker; old unscoped cache entries are cleaned on load to prevent non-group player cache carryover.
- Combat item-level display now only reads cache for current party/raid units and continues to avoid NotifyInspect during combat.
QFXTip 3.3.27
- Moved Unit Target from the General page into a new Unit Information dropdown.
- Added Unit Information as the non-player counterpart of Player Information. It currently contains Unit Target and is ready for more unit detail options later.
- Migrated the old standalone Unit Target checkbox into Unit Information > Unit Target.
QFXTip 3.3.26
- Simplified Unit Target into one checkbox. Removed the extra combat-visible Unit Target layer so there is no longer a separate main switch plus combat switch.
- Unit Target now means: checked = show the target line on non-player unit tooltips; unchecked = do not show it. In Show Only Selected Tooltips in Combat mode, the Unit tooltip itself still needs to be selected.
- Migrated the temporary 3.3.25 combat Unit Target choice back into the single Unit Target checkbox and restored the combat-visible dropdown order.
QFXTip 3.3.25
- Added Unit Target to the Combat Visible Tooltip Types dropdown.
- Unit Target now has two layers: the main Show Unit Target checkbox controls whether the feature is enabled, and the combat-visible Unit Target checkbox controls whether the target line is kept during Show Only Selected Tooltips in Combat.
- Migrated the old combat-visible dropdown bit order so existing Player / Unit / Spell / Aura choices do not shift after adding Unit Target.
QFXTip 3.3.24
- Added a Player Information option: Social Relationship.
- When Social Relationship is unchecked, QFXTip hides Blizzard social relationship rows on player tooltips, such as Recent Interactions / 近期往来.
- Social Relationship is disabled by default so the player tooltip stays clean; enabling it restores those Blizzard social relation rows.
QFXTip 3.3.23
- Separated Player and Unit combat whitelist behavior. Player tooltips now only follow the Player combat-visible checkbox, while Unit controls non-player units.
- Player Information rows still follow their own Player Information options after the Player tooltip itself is allowed in combat.
- Kept Unit Target as an independent non-player unit option and kept combat-safe item level / Mythic+ score behavior from 3.3.22.
QFXTip 3.3.22
- Renamed Player Information > Target to Player Target for clearer wording.
- Added a separate Show Unit Target option for non-player unit tooltips.
- Mythic+ score and player target now display during combat when the player tooltip itself is visible.
- Item level now uses combat-safe behavior: cached values and direct group-slot reads are shown in combat, but new NotifyInspect requests are skipped while locked down.
- Split instance-restricted state from addon-restriction state internally so dungeon tooltip behavior is not overwritten by restriction events.
- Player tooltips were temporarily mapped to the Unit combat-visible category in this build; this was separated again in 3.3.23.
QFXTip 3.3.21
- Changed remaining gray text in Player Information tooltip rows to white.
- Guild/guild rank, realm/server, level/race fallback rows, and temporary item-level loading/stale text now use white instead of gray.
- Kept class/spec coloring limited to the intended name/class-related rows.
- No refresh, inspect, or OnUpdate behavior changed.
QFXTip 3.3.20
- Adjusted player tooltip coloring so guild, guild rank, realm/server, and other non-class identity rows use neutral gray instead of class color.
- Kept class color only on the player name and the real level/race/class line.
- No new refresh loop, group scan, or inspect frequency change.
QFXTip 3.3.19
- Fixed player tooltip class-color refresh contamination in dungeons by binding player tooltip updates to the current player GUID.
- Reworked player tooltip class coloring to use FontString:SetTextColor instead of stacking inline |c color codes.
- Added GUID validation before async inspect/item-level tooltip refreshes, preventing stale inspect results from refreshing the wrong mouseover unit.
- Added safe color-code termination for custom double-line tooltip entries.
- No new OnUpdate, no full group scan, and no increased NotifyInspect frequency.
2026-06-25 - 3.3.18
- Release build without test suffix.
- Fixed secret-string tooltip text reads that could taint player item-level refresh.
- Removed mount source display from ID Display; mount source remains only under Player Information > Mount.
- Spell ID display no longer reverse-lookups mount IDs, preventing ordinary spells from showing matching Mount IDs.
- Action-bar spell tooltips now follow Blizzard TooltipDataProcessor post-call flow so Blizzard keeps full spell details first, then QFXTip appends Spell/Icon ID rows.
- Player target information can display during combat; high-risk score/mount lookups remain guarded.
- Kept WoW 12.0.5 / 12.0.7 Interface compatibility.
2026-06-25 - 3.3.17 action-bar spell tooltip post-call fix
- Changed Retail spell ID display to follow the Blizzard TooltipDataProcessor post-call path.
- Action-bar spell tooltips are now left to Blizzard first, then QFXTip only appends Spell/Icon ID rows afterward.
- SetAction no longer adds generic spell/item ID rows early; it is limited to legacy companion/mount action fallback.
- GameTooltip SetSpellByID / OnTooltipSetSpell hooks are now fallback-only when TooltipDataProcessor is unavailable.
2026-06-25 - 3.3.17 action-bar spell tooltip detail fix
- Fixed action-bar spell tooltips sometimes showing only the spell name plus QFXTip ID rows.
- QFXTip no longer calls GameTooltip:Show() immediately while Blizzard is still building SetAction/TooltipDataProcessor spell data.
- Tooltip refresh is now deferred to the next frame and only runs when the tooltip is already visible, preventing incomplete mana/range/body text.
QFXTip 3.3.17 qfx-tooltip-detail-guard
- Prevented ID Display from forcing hidden/custom scan tooltips to show before Blizzard has populated full spell details.
- This avoids simple title-only spell tooltips appearing with only QFXTip ID lines.
QFXTip 3.3.17 qfx-mount-spell-fix
- Fixed ordinary spell tooltips incorrectly showing a Mount ID when the spell ID matched an existing mount ID.
- Mount ID display now only comes from actual mount tooltip/action data, not from generic spell ID reverse lookup.
- Kept mount source limited to Player Information > Mount.
QFXTip 3.3.17 qfx-source-scope
- ID Display no longer adds mount source text from mount IDs or mount spell IDs.
- Mount source text is now limited to Player Information > Mount.
QFXTip 3.3.17
- Reworked mount source display as a stable single wrapped line.
- Removed split/right-column parsing for mount source text to prevent blank rows and UTF-8 Chinese label corruption.
- Keeps Blizzard's original localized mount source text intact.
QFXTip 3.3.16
- Fixed mount source row spacing by using the same prefixed tooltip line path as normal ID rows.
- Removed the custom source-row compacting path that could leave blank-looking gaps in narrow GameTooltip layouts.
- Mount source labels remain yellow and values align on the right like other ID rows.
3.3.15
- Fixed extra blank spacing between mount source detail rows.
- Normalized hidden Unicode line separators/control characters in mount source text without rebuilding localized labels.
- Forced mount source rows to one-line tooltip font strings while keeping two-column right-aligned layout.
QFXTip 3.3.14
- Fixed mount source rows still looking like they had blank lines by using no-wrap numeric-color tooltip rows.
- Removed source-row indentation so mount source labels and values have the same compact right-aligned layout as ID rows.
- Kept full Blizzard mount source text; no settings or SavedVariables changes.
QFXTip 3.3.13
- Changed mount source details to two-column tooltip rows so source values align to the right like ID values.
- Removed the extra blank-looking spacing between mount source detail rows by avoiding wrapped single-line source rows.
- Kept full Blizzard mount source text and yellow source labels; no settings or SavedVariables changes.
QFXTip 3.3.12
- Improved mount source layout: the first source entry now appears on the same line as Source to avoid an extra blank-looking row.
- Highlighted mount source labels such as Vendor, Location, Price, Drop, Achievement, and Quest in yellow while keeping values white.
- Kept Blizzard's original localized mount source text intact to avoid UTF-8/source text corruption.
QFXTip 3.3.11
- Fixed mount source layout by preserving Blizzard's original localized source text and only inserting safe line breaks.
- Avoided rebuilding Chinese source labels such as 价格, which could cause missing/garbled characters on some clients.
- Mount source remains tied to the existing Mount option; no new setting was added.
QFXTip 3.3.5
- Fixed mount tooltips not showing Mount ID when the tooltip already contains Blizzard text such as “Warband-wide mount”.
- Added mount source display to mount/spell tooltips when the Mount ID option is enabled.
- Improved duplicate-label detection so normal tooltip text no longer suppresses QFXTip ID lines.
QFXTip 3.3.4
- Expanded the ID Display dropdown help text for EN/zhCN/zhTW.
- Added concise per-option explanations for Unit, Spell, Mount, Aura, Item, Toy, Currency, Quest, Macro, Achievement, Icon, and NPC ID categories.
- Clarified that item-related extra IDs follow Item, quest map/vignette IDs follow Quest, and achievement criteria IDs follow Achievement.
- No runtime behavior or SavedVariables format changes.
- Kept WoW 12.0.5 / 12.0.7 Interface compatibility.
QFXTip 3.3.3
- Added mount source display to the existing Mount player-info option.
- When Mount is enabled, player tooltips now show both the current mount name and the Blizzard Mount Journal source when available.
- No separate mount-source setting was added; the feature follows the existing Mount toggle.
- Kept mount information restricted to the existing non-combat display path.
- Kept WoW 12.0.5 / 12.0.7 Interface compatibility.
QFXTip 3.3.2
- Fixed a Retail 12.x secret unit token error in player tooltip processing.
- Wrapped tooltip unit access, UnitExists, UnitClass, GetGuildInfo, CanInspect, and related player tooltip calls with guarded safe helpers.
- Avoids passing protected tooltip unit tokens directly into WoW unit APIs; falls back to the static mouseover token when available.
- Kept the 3.3.1 lightweight party-only item level pre-warm behavior.
- Kept WoW 12.0.5 / 12.0.7 Interface compatibility.
QFXTip 3.3.1
- Reduced item level refresh overhead for group content.
- Party item level pre-warm is still kept for quick 5-player mouseover results.
- Raid-wide automatic pre-warm is disabled to avoid scanning 20/40 players during zone-in or GROUP_ROSTER_UPDATE bursts.
- Raid player item level is now resolved on mouseover using cached values, direct slot scan when available, and the existing throttled Inspect queue as fallback.
- Coalesced GROUP_ROSTER_UPDATE / PLAYER_ENTERING_WORLD pre-warm scheduling so repeated events only create one delayed pre-warm pass.
- Kept WoW 12.0.5 / 12.0.7 Interface compatibility.
QFXTip 3.3.0
- Reworked player item level tooltip logic using the reference addon pattern: instant self item level, fast party/raid slot scanning, throttled inspect queue for other players, and direct in-place tooltip refresh.
- Added hidden tooltip slot scanning fallback for Retail 12.x / Midnight-style item info cache behavior.
- Added 5-minute fresh / 24-hour persistent item level cache under QFXTipDB, with Shift-hover cache refresh.
- Updated EN/zhCN/zhTW item level option help text.
- Kept WoW 12.0.5 / 12.0.7 Interface compatibility.
QFXTip 3.2.9-qfx19
- Redesigned the combat partial-hide dropdown as a whitelist: checked types are the tooltip types kept visible in combat; unchecked types are hidden.
- Renamed the UI copy from “hide selected types” to “show only selected types” to match user expectations.
- The combat-visible dropdown now summarizes selected types with a “Show:” prefix so the current visible tooltip/ID categories are easier to see when the dropdown text is truncated.
- Added clearer hover help explaining that extra ID lines follow their parent tooltip category in combat.
QFXTip 3.2.9-qfx18
- Updated default profile: ID display now starts with all broad ID categories enabled.
- Updated combat-hide dropdown defaults: Unit, Spell, and Aura are selected by default; other types remain unselected.
- Enabled Fixed Position in Combat by default.
- Player info now starts with Mythic+ Score and Item Level enabled by default.
- Mythic+ info now starts with Progress Percentage enabled by default.
- Added a conservative default migration for old untouched settings without overriding customized selections.

QFXTip 3.2.9-qfx14
