Description

PUG Q&A: Raid Mechanics Check

Tired of wiping because the PUG didn't know the mechanic? PUG Q&A lets the raid leader quiz the raid with multiple-choice questions before the pull, then shows exactly who got it right, who got it wrong, and who didn't answer. When the raid takes a break, it also runs a WoW lore trivia game.

How it works

  1. Write your questions. Each question has 2 to 4 answers. Mark the right one (or several, for a "pick all that apply" question) and choose who gets it: the whole raid, specific groups, odd groups, even groups, individual players, or by role.
  2. Check the questions you want and press Send. Each player gets a random question meant for them.
  3. Players answer in a popup with a timer and the ready-check sound, by clicking or pressing 1–4. Raiders without PUG Q&A get the question by whisper and reply with a number.
  4. See the results. Right, wrong, and no-answer results for every player, plus session totals.

Example: odd groups get "When the boss casts Rift, where do you go?" with the right answer "Left side, on star", while even groups get the same question with "Right side, on circle".

Features

  • Only the raid leader can send checks. Raiders ignore checks from anyone else, so random players cannot spam the raid.
  • Raids and battlegrounds of 6+ players. Parties of 2–5 cannot send or receive checks.
  • Combat-safe. Checks wait until the whole raid is out of combat and pause during boss fights.
  • Skips players who cannot answer. Nothing goes to anyone offline, AFK, or outside your instance. They are dimmed in the raid list and get questions again as soon as they are back.
  • Works without the addon. Raiders without PUG Q&A receive a whisper and reply with a number. Their answers still count.
  • Target by role. Send to Tanks, Healers, Melee, Ranged, or any combination, so "move out of melee" only goes to melee and "spread 8 yards" only to ranged. Raiders with the addon report melee or ranged from their own spec; for everyone else it is guessed from class.
  • Pick all that apply. Mark several right answers and players must pick the whole set, ticking answers and pressing Submit.
  • Follow-up on wrong answers. Anyone who gets it wrong is whispered the right answer and asked to reply 1 (I understand now) or 2 (I still don't). You are told who still does not understand.
  • Explain it for them. Add an optional one-line explanation to any question. Anyone who says they still do not understand gets it right away, in their popup or by whisper.
  • Keep sending. Automatically re-ask anyone who missed until everyone gets it.
  • Raid markers. Click a marker in the editor, or type {star}, {green}, {rt4}, and so on. Markers show as icons in popups and whispers.
  • Automatic answer time. 10 seconds for short questions, up to 30 seconds for longer ones. You can also set a fixed time.
  • Test on me. Preview any question, even an unsaved draft, as a popup only you can see, in any group or none. Nothing is sent.
  • Players stay in control. Raiders can hide checks from a leader with one click. /pugqa unmute restores them.
  • Quiet chat. PUG Q&A whispers and number replies can be hidden from the leader's chat window.
  • Clean design. Class-colored raid list, tank and healer icons, a readable modern font, and a minimap button.

Trivia breaks

Pick 2, 5, or 10 minutes on the Trivia tab and start. Questions pop up back to back and the first right answer wins the point.

  • 125 WoW lore questions, from Classic through The War Within: cinematics, zones and landmarks, warchiefs and kings, family and relationships, "which dungeon is this boss in", races, titles, professions, and origin stories.
  • Answers unlock after 2 seconds, so knowing the answer beats fast clicking. A wrong answer locks you out of that question, which keeps going until someone gets it right.
  • Points last the whole raid. Players who join mid-raid start at 0. Points wipe when the raid leader leaves, the raid disbands, lead is passed on, or the leader presses Reset points.
  • Quiet in chat. Raid chat gets three messages per break: the start, a one-minute warning, and the winner.
  • A pull ends the break and announces the winner so far. One raider fighting a stray mob does not.
  • No repeats until the whole pool has been used, even across raid nights.
  • Try it yourself. A one-minute practice round against three practice bots, in any group or none. Only you see it and nothing is sent.
  • Opt out any time. Raiders can press Ignore trivia to stop trivia popups without hiding raid mechanics checks.

Trivia needs the addon, so it stays quick. Players without it get one whisper per game inviting them to play.

Settings

Found under Check settings in the PUG Q&A window:

  • Time to answer: automatic or fixed
  • What happens when a check ends: stop, keep sending to anyone who missed, or keep sending to everyone
  • Post a heads-up and results in raid chat, with or without names of players who missed
  • Whisper the right answer to anyone who got it wrong
  • Hide PUG Q&A whispers and replies in your chat
  • Show trivia popups when you are a raider
  • Whisper players without the addon once per trivia game
  • Show the minimap button
  • Use the clean PUG Q&A font or WoW's own font

Good to know

  • Questions are limited to 120 characters and answers to 25, so every whisper fits in one WoW chat message.
  • Raiders with PUG Q&A get the best experience, since the popup is faster than typing a reply.
  • Korean and Chinese clients use WoW's own font because the bundled font does not include those characters.
