ProfessionTips
Keep, bank, or sell? Your reagent tooltips know.
ProfessionTips adds a small section to the tooltip of every crafting material, telling you at a glance whether it can still level your professions — for WoW Classic Era / Anniversary / Hardcore.
Tailoring (137) 125-199 214 229 Azure Silk Vest (not learned) 150-169 184 199 Bolt of Silk Cloth 125-134 139 144 First Aid (210) 150-239 269 299 Silk Bandage 150-179 209 239
Highlights
- Keep, bank, or sell at a glance: every profession that uses the item gets a bold header with your current skill and the material's accumulated skill range — the span in which it can still give you points. When everything is gray you get a single "no skillups" line: sell it.
- Know how many mats to buy: the color-coded scale ("1-44 64 84") reads like the trade-skill window — guaranteed point per craft while orange (through 44), decent chance until the yellow bound (64), poor chance until green (84), nothing from gray on. Shopping to the yellow bound is cheap; pushing through green multiplies the mats you need.
- Recipes that matter for YOU: lines are colored by difficulty at your current skill, unlearned recipes carry a red "(not learned)" marker, and recipes only obtainable by the other faction are ignored entirely.
What else it can do
- All nine professions, including First Aid and Smelting — ore tells you whether smelting it still levels Mining.
- Processed materials: raw mats count the recipes of what they become — cloth its bolts, ore its bars, hides their cured forms — marked "(via Copper Bar)".
- Smart recipe selection: the lowest- and highest-requirement recipes always frame the section; the slots between prefer recipes usable at your current skill (learned first) instead of a wall of skill-1 entries.
- Professions-only mode: set recipe lines to 0 and each profession shows just its header with the accumulated range.
- Alt planning: optionally show sections for professions this character doesn't have, to decide what to mail to your alts.
- On-demand mode: optionally show the info only while holding Shift/Ctrl/Alt.
- Complete, verified data: the full Classic Era recipe catalogue (1,200+ recipes incl. quest, drop and holiday recipes), taken from the game client's own data and cross-checked against Wowhead.
- Works on every client language — all matching is done by item and spell IDs, never by names.
Configuration
Settings -> Options -> AddOns -> ProfessionTips, or simply /proftips:
- Per profession: on/off, plus an "only learned recipes" filter (great for Cooking's huge catalogue).
- Recipes listed per profession: 0 (professions only) or 2-35; anything beyond the limit is summarized as "+N more recipes give points".
- Show only while holding: always (default), or Shift / Ctrl / Alt.
- Include processed materials: follow the cloth->bolt / ore->bar chains (default on).
- Show for missing professions: annotate professions this character doesn't have, as if at skill 0 (default off).
Not annotated on purpose: reagents that vendors sell in unlimited quantity (spices, vials, threads, dyes, …) — there is no keep-or-toss decision for them. Limited-stock vendor items are included.
Limitations & Roadmap
- Settings are account-wide: all characters share the same configuration (your skill and learned recipes are of course evaluated per character). Per-character settings may come later if requested.
- Skill-up chances are approximate in the yellow/green range; the breakpoints themselves are exact game data.
- Faction data is conservative: Cooking was swept exhaustively; for other professions only unambiguous cases are flagged. When in doubt a recipe is shown to both factions — if you spot one your faction can't actually obtain, please report it.
- Roadmap: Burning Crusade support (including Jewelcrafting) is planned — the addon is already built for per-flavor data.
Found a recipe with wrong numbers or a missing material? Please report it with the item and your profession skill — the data is generated and easy to fix.
