What's new

Priestly Changelog

v2.0.14 - 2026-10-04

Changed

  • Closing the window in combat is explained either way. If the window closes itself during a fight - say your group empties, or you untick "show when solo" - Priestly now says it will close when you leave combat, in words of its own, so it no longer looks like it ignored you.
  • Needs LibGroupBuffs r28 and LibGlass r1, both included in the download.

v2.0.13 - 2026-10-04

Fixed

  • The "new client build … re-measure" message no longer appears for players. v2.0.11 meant to show it only in development copies, but the way a release is packaged made every copy count as one, so v2.0.11 and v2.0.12 could still show it once after a game update. It is a note for the addon's developer and never meant anything for your game; nothing else is affected.

v2.0.12 - 2026-10-04

Changed

  • The buff window's glass now comes from LibGlass, a small library shared by the Glass addons and included in the download - nothing extra to install. The window's rim is a little softer; nothing else changes on screen.
  • Clearer messages if Priestly can't start. When a shared library is missing or another addon's copy of it failed to load, the chat message now says which, and what to do about it - reinstall Priestly, or turn on /console scriptErrors 1 to see which addon's copy broke - instead of a developer's error text.
  • Needs LibGroupBuffs r26 and LibGlass r1, both included in the download.

v2.0.11 - 2026-10-04

Fixed

  • No more "this version was tested on game build …" message at login. It appeared every time the game client updated, even though Priestly kept working fine. It was a reminder meant for the addon's developer, not for players, and now only shows in development copies. If something does misbehave after a game update, please still report it.

v2.0.10 - 2026-09-29

Added

  • A Frame Size slider, in Settings beside Frame Opacity: 70% to 200%. Priestly's window was sized for TBC Anniversary, and this client draws its interface differently, so the rows can look small — this scales the window on its own rather than making you rescale the whole game UI. The new size lands on the next redraw, so if you move it mid-fight it applies when the fight ends.

Fixed

  • Learning a spell brings the window back when it has something to show. If the window had closed itself because there was nothing to display — every buff untracked, or none of them known yet — learning one, or respeccing, left it shut until something else woke it.

Under the hood

  • Priestly now shares one copy of the rules for when the window opens with Wildly and Magely, instead of each addon carrying its own. Nothing should look different; the fixes in v2.0.9 were all cases where those copies had drifted apart.
  • Much less work per refresh in a raid. Checking whether somebody is missing a buff means reading their auras, and Priestly was doing that once per buff per person — three times over for a priest tracking three. It now reads each person once and answers every buff from that, and the "show Shadow Protection when somebody has it" setting shares the same read instead of scanning the raid all over again. On a 40-man raid one refresh drops from about 2,600 aura reads to about 900. Nothing looks different; there is simply less of it happening forty times a minute.
  • Needs LibGroupBuffs r25, included in the download.

v2.0.9 - 2026-09-28

Fixed

  • "Show Shadow Protection by instance" now works if you do not play in English. Priestly matched the instance by its NAME, which the game gives you in your own language — so on a French or German client it never recognised anywhere, and the setting quietly did nothing. It matches on the instance's own ID now, which is the same in every language. If Priestly still does not recognise somewhere, it says so in chat and prints the ID to report.
  • The reagent counter no longer names the wrong candle. Which candle a Prayer burns depends on its rank, and Priestly reads that from a line of text the game writes in your language. When it cannot read a number out of it, it now shows no candle rather than guessing — and /priestly help says what the game actually told it. (Only reachable from level 48.)
  • Changing a setting no longer reopens a window you closed. Any settings change — the Shadow Protection mode, an instance checkbox, anything — used to bring the window straight back. A window that closed itself because there was nothing to show still reopens when a setting gives it rows again.
  • Zoning into an instance brings the window back when it has something to show. With Shadow Protection set to "by instance", a window that had closed itself outdoors — nothing to display — stayed shut after you walked into an instance on your list, until something else happened to wake it.
  • Turning solo mode on during a fight now works. It was silently ignored until the fight ended, and then forgotten.
  • Closing the window now sticks when you log in already in a group. The game reports your group a moment after you log in, and Priestly read that as you having just joined — which is the one thing that reopens a window you closed on purpose. So it came back every login, and forgot that you had closed it. It stays closed now, however long the game takes to load, and a real invite still reopens it.

v2.0.8 - 2026-09-27

Changed

  • A new look. The window is drawn in glass: a translucent, softly lit panel with rounded corners instead of the flat Blizzard dialog box, and every buff bar filled the same way.
  • It is easier to read at a glance. The rows are taller and the spell icons bigger, each one in a rounded tile of its own, and the text is a cleaner typeface with a shadow behind it so it stays legible wherever the window sits. Group separators are centred across the window rather than tucked against one edge, and the close button matches the rest of it instead of being Blizzard's gold disc.
  • The window is a little wider and taller because of that. If you keep it tucked against something, you may want to nudge it once; where you put it is remembered as always.
  • Tooltips no longer land on top of the window they are describing, and are drawn slightly smaller so they suit it.

Nothing about how it works has changed: same rows, same clicks, same colours telling you who is missing what.

Added

  • /priestly help now shows the spell names Priestly is matching on, with your client's language and version numbers. If the addon ever reports everybody as unbuffed when they are not, those lines say why — and pasting them into a bug report is enough to diagnose it. Priestly also says so once at login if it could not read a name for a buff you track.

v2.0.7 - 2026-09-27

Read this if you had Priestly before

  • Your settings move, once, and Priestly tells you when it happens. They used to be kept separately for each character; now they are shared by all of them again. The first character you log in after updating brings its settings across for everyone, and says so in chat by name.
  • If that was the wrong character, log in as the one whose setup you want and run /priestly adopt. Nothing is lost in the meantime: every character's own settings are still saved, and any character that has some is told once that /priestly adopt will use them.
  • Whether the window is open stays with the character. Closing it on one priest does not close it on another.

Fixed

  • Your settings stop resetting. Game build 70009 fixed the client bug that wrote addon settings to disk and never read them back, so Priestly remembers your setup again — position, opacity, which buffs you track, the Shadow Protection list. If you played through that patch, it says so in chat the first time it sees them come back. On an older build they still reset every session; that was never something an addon could work around.
  • The "this version was tested on game build …" notice is gone for anyone on 70009. Priestly's findings have been re-checked against it, in and out of combat. The notice returns at the next game patch, which is what it is for.
  • A clearer message when the bundled library is out of date. It used to report a failed load — sending you looking for a crash that never happened — where the real answer was an old copy. It now names both versions and says to reinstall.

v2.0.6 - 2026-09-23

Known issue

  • Your settings still reset every time you reload. Unchanged: a client bug that affects every addon, reported to Blizzard. Priestly says so in chat once a game update fixes it.

Fixed

  • Closing or dragging the window during a fight no longer throws an error. If you have an error display installed, closing Priestly mid-combat produced a "tried to call the protected function" message, and so did dragging it. The window holds the buttons you click to cast, which the game protects in combat: it cannot be hidden or moved until the fight ends. Priestly now waits instead of trying. Close it during a fight and it says "The window closes when you leave combat", then does exactly that.

Added

  • Hovering a row in combat now lists who still needs the buff. The per-member panel cannot open during a fight - same protection as above - so the hover text carries it instead:

Needs it, from what can still be seen:
    Zoruka Mortalis was missing
    Sten Thornbeard ran out
    Mirel Dawnsong offline

Each line says how current it is, because the game hides auras in combat: was missing is what was seen at the last look, ran out is a buff whose timer expired during the fight, and ? is somebody never seen at all, such as a player who joined mid-fight. A buff that somebody strips or that another priest casts cannot be seen, so nothing here claims to know about it.

Under the hood

  • The buff logic and the window itself now live in the shared library that the druid and mage versions will use, which is most of what changed in this release. Priestly's own file is a third of the size. Nothing about it should look different to you: the rows, the panel, the clicks, the timers and the settings all behave as before. If anything does look different, that is a bug - please report it.

v2.0.5 - 2026-09-22

Known issue

  • Your settings still reset every time you reload. Unchanged from v2.0.4: a client bug that affects every addon, reported to Blizzard. Priestly will say so in chat once a game update fixes it.

Changed

  • A group Prayer now lands on whoever needs it most. Left-clicking a row casts the Prayer on a member who is missing the buff, or on whoever has the least time left, instead of on the first person in the list. A Prayer only covers its target's own party, and a raid's pet row mixes pets from several parties - so on that row the first pet kept getting the Prayer while the others stayed unbuffed. Nothing changes until your priest learns the Prayers.

Under the hood

  • Priestly now runs on a shared library, LibGroupBuffs, which the druid and mage versions (Wildly and Magely) will use too. It comes inside Priestly's download, in its Libs folder - there is nothing extra to install. If Priestly ever says in chat that it cannot start, that folder is missing or damaged: reinstalling Priestly fixes it.

v2.0.4 - 2026-09-21

Known issue

  • Your settings reset every time you reload. A client bug, affecting every addon rather than this one: Forever writes addon settings to disk correctly and never reads them back at login. Storing them per character fails the same way as account-wide, so the window position, the lock, the buff toggles and the Shadow Protection list all start fresh each session. No addon can work around it - there is nowhere on this client an addon can save to that survives a restart - so this waits on Blizzard's fix, which has been reported. It is not worth reporting as a Priestly bug.

Added

  • Priestly tells you when the settings bug is fixed. Once a game update fixes it, Priestly says so in chat the first time your saved settings come back - once, not at every login. Nothing to do until then.
  • A note when the game client updates. Priestly was tested on one build of the beta. On a newer one it says so at login until an update catches up, so you know what to report if something misbehaves.
  • /priestly pos - says where the window is, where it was told to be, and what the addon decided at login. Worth running before reporting anything about the window moving on its own.

Fixed

  • The reagent counters would have errored when you hovered them. Priestly asked the game to build that tooltip using a call this client does not have, which would have thrown every time the mouse crossed the candle or feather. Nobody hit it because the counters only appear once you know a spell that uses a reagent, which is not yet possible - it was waiting for the level cap to rise. The tooltip is now built by the addon, and says what the reagent is for and how many you are carrying.
  • /priestly reset left a locked window stranded. Reset recentres the window even when it is locked, so a window dragged somewhere unreachable can always be recovered. But it then sat in the middle of the screen, still locked, refusing to be dragged, with nothing to say why. It now tells you the window is locked and where to unlock it.

v2.0.3 - 2026-09-21

Fixed

  • A buff row could stop responding until you clicked it twice. If nobody in a group could be buffed at all - everyone dead, offline, or gone - the row disarmed itself so a click could not land on you by mistake. It then failed to re-arm once somebody could be buffed again, so the next click did nothing and only the one after it cast. Found while building the click hints below: the hint said what the click should do, and the click disagreed.

Added

  • Lock frame position in Options - Appearance. Stops the window being dragged by its header, so it cannot be nudged out of place by a stray click mid-fight. /priestly reset still recentres it, so a locked window can always be recovered.

Thanks to Warbullio on CurseForge for the request.

  • Click hints. Hovering a buff row now tells you what each mouse button will cast, and on whom. Worth reading once even if you know the addon: what left-click does depends on which spells you have, so while you have no group Prayer it buffs a single person rather than the group. Turn it off with Show click hints on mouseover in Options - Appearance.

Thanks to Giruy on CurseForge, who lost a lot of candles finding this out the other way.

v2.0.2 - 2026-09-21

Fixed

  • The per-member popover opened off-screen if you kept Priestly on the left. It always opened to the left of the frame, so anyone who put Priestly where Pally Power normally sits lost the popover past the edge of the screen - and with it the per-member click casting. It now opens on whichever side has room, and follows the frame when you drag it.

Added

  • Popover Side in Options - Appearance. Automatic by default, which is what the above describes; set it to always-left or always-right if you would rather pin it.

Thanks to zoikes on CurseForge for the report.

v2.0.1 - 2026-09-20

Fixed

  • Clicking a buff row did nothing at all, for some people. If you use AdvancedInterfaceOptions, MiniPressRelease, or anything else that makes your buttons fire when you release the mouse rather than when you press it, every row in Priestly was dead - no cast, no error message, nothing to suggest the addon had even noticed. The rows now work whichever way you have that set, and keep working if you change it without reloading.

Still one cast per click, so this costs you no extra reagents.

Thanks to Jaybeoh on CurseForge for the report, and for working out what the two addons had in common - that was the whole answer.

v2.0.0 - 2026-09-20

Priestly Forever - a port to World of Warcraft: Forever 1.60.1 (Interface 16001). TBC Classic Anniversary is no longer supported; v1.0.6 remains available for that client.

Forever itself is in beta and capped at level 20, so parts of this are waiting on content: the group "Prayer of X" spells do not exist yet, reagents do not apply, and most instances cannot be reached. Everything that can work at the current cap does, and is verified in game.

Ported

  • Rebuilt every removed or moved API call behind a compatibility layer: auras now read through C_UnitAuras, spell data through C_Spell, the spellbook through C_SpellBook, item icons through C_Item.
  • Event registration is guarded: this client throws on an unknown event name instead of ignoring it, and anything unsupported is now reported rather than silently dead.
  • The options panel no longer depends on Classic-only frame templates.

New behaviour for Forever

  • Works before the Prayers exist. Every buff row is built from the spells you actually know, and left-click falls back to the single-target spell when there is no group Prayer - so no click is ever wired to a spell that does not exist. This applies to Fortitude and Shadow Protection now, not just Divine Spirit.
  • Buff durations are learned, not assumed. Forever's durations match neither TBC nor Vanilla and are still being tuned, so the timer bars scale against what your own buffs actually report, and reset whenever the client build changes.
  • Combat aura secrecy is handled. This client makes every aura unreadable once combat starts - for the whole group, not just you - and the by-name lookup returns "no buff" rather than an error, so a naive port would report the entire raid as unbuffed the moment you pull. Priestly detects the block, counts down from the last reading instead, and shows ? for anyone it never saw buffed.
  • Surnames. Forever characters have one, and first names are not unique, so full names are shown and the popover is wider to fit them. Buff state now follows the character, not the raid slot.
  • UNIT_AURA is filtered to the units and spells that matter - it fires far more often here.

Known client issue

  • Settings are stored per character. This client writes account-wide saved variables but never reads them back, so any addon using them resets to defaults every session. Per-character storage does work, so that is where Priestly keeps its settings. Configuring one character does not configure the others.

Changed

  • The instance list is Forever's content, not Vanilla's: the three raids — The Barrow Deeps (10), Hyjal Summit (20) and Onyxia's Lair (40) — and all twenty-eight dungeons, ordered by level. That includes Forever's nine new ones, from The Hall of Thanes at 13 up to Shaper's Terrace at 60. They are listed but unchecked, because nothing is known about their encounters yet and the tooltip says so rather than inventing detail. The Vanilla raids beyond Onyxia are gone; they are not in the game.
  • Multi-wing instances are one entry each. Scarlet Monastery, Maraudon, Dire Maul, Stratholme and Blackrock Spire report a single name to addons however you enter them, so one row is what the game actually exposes.
  • If Priestly does not recognise an instance you walk into, it now says so instead of quietly doing nothing — most of these names cannot be checked against the game until the level cap rises, and a wrong one would otherwise just fail in silence.
  • The TBC instance list is gone; the options panel is now Settings | Instances. Priestly will migrate a v1.x profile if it ever sees one - keeping your settings and dropping the TBC-only entries - but on this client it will not: v1.x stored settings account-wide, and account-wide saved variables are not read back (see above). Expect to configure Forever from defaults.
  • The main frame now survives being closed during combat the same way the popover already did.
  • Reagent tracking follows the spells you know instead of a hardcoded level, and counts the whole carried inventory including a reagent bag.
  • Clicks prefer somebody in range. Casting at a member who is out of reach simply fails, and a group Prayer reaches further than the single-target spell, so each click is measured against the spell it will actually cast.
  • Closing the window is remembered. It no longer reopens on the next login, ready check or roster change - only on joining a group, which is what the addon promises. A /priestly show asked for during combat now happens when combat ends instead of being dropped.
  • Pets get as many rows as they need. A raid with more pets than the popover can list is split into several pet groups rather than counting members it gave you no way to click.
  • The per-member popover follows a roster change while it is open, instead of showing the previous group under the new names.

Added

  • A unit test suite (tests/, plain Lua 5.1, no game client) and a deploy script.
  • A package check on every pull request: syntax, the full test suite, and a dry-run build of the release zip.

v1.0.6 - 2026-05-13

Fixed

  • Fixed the main frame displaying an extra v before addon versions that already include the prefix.

v1.0.3

Fixed

  • Fixed Divine Spirit tracking not appearing for priests who know Divine Spirit but do not yet know Prayer of Spirit.
  • Fixed the popover closing behavior during combat.
  • Prevented the popover from trying to fully hide while in combat, which could cause secure frame issues.
  • Popover now becomes visually hidden during combat and is properly restored or fully hidden once combat ends.
  • Fixed cases where manually closing Priestly during combat could leave the popover in a bad state.

Improved

  • Improved combat-safe handling for UI elements attached to secure buttons.
  • Added cleanup logic so the popover is properly reset after leaving combat.

Changed

  • Updated addon version metadata.

v1.0.2 - 2026-04-06

  • Fix a bug with GetAddOnMetadata

v1.0.1 - 2026-04-06

  • Fixed changelog packaging
