Plunder Points

Loot System of The Scurvy Dogs

Plunder Points – Priority Loot System for Organized Guilds

Plunder Points is a lightweight, raid-tested loot system built for transparency, hype, and speed. Designed originally for The Scurvy Dogs, it works for any guild that wants fair, drama-free loot decisions without spreadsheets in the middle of a boss kill.

It blends point-based priority (earn points for showing up and doing the work) with an in-game hidden bid & reveal flow that keeps things exciting while still being fair and auditable.

What it does (at a glance)

  • Point Tracking, In-Game: Maintain a running points balance per raider; admins can add/subtract points as needed.

  • Hidden Bidding with Big Reveal: Players wager points on an item; bids stay hidden until the admin closes bidding, then each entry dramatically fades in and a large gold “WINNER: {Name}” is displayed.

  • Item Link Support: Shift-click any item in your bags to paste the item link as the bidding target—no typos, no confusion.

  • Roster ↔ Bidding Tabs: Clean, tab-based UI to swap between your Roster view and the Bidding screen during loot moments.

  • Admin Controls: One-click Open / Close / Reset for each bidding session, with either an item name or the actual item link.

  • Searchable Bidding History: Full record of past bids, rolls, winners, and items. Use the View History button to quickly reference who won what, when, and for how much.

  • Reset When You’re Ready: Results remain visible for discussion until the admin hits Reset, so you can talk it through before moving on.

How a loot moment looks (real raid example)

  1. Item drops: Let’s say [Soulhunter’s Treads] drop.

  2. Open bidding: The admin shift-clicks the item (or types the name) and presses Open.

  3. Players bid (hidden): Raiders enter their point wagers. No one sees numbers yet, so there’s no social pressure or last-second sniping.

  4. Close & reveal: The admin hits Close. Bids fade in one by one (2-second reveal) for a little theater. The addon then flashes WINNER: PirateName in gold.

  5. Points update: Winner’s points are adjusted according to your rules (see the PPP approach below). The whole session is saved to History.

  6. Reset when ready: After a quick “grats” and any discussion, the admin taps Reset and you’re on to the next drop.

Why the system works (design philosophy)

Fairness without friction

  • Hidden bids remove peer pressure and “price chasing.”

  • Burn-on-win keeps the economy sane: only the winner actually spends points, reducing inflation and hoarding.

Fast & focused

  • Item link in, bids in, reveal, done. No swapping to spreadsheets or juggling manual tallies mid-pull.

Transparent & accountable

  • The History view gives you a clean audit trail—who bid, who won, and when. This combats memory bias and loot drama.

Flexible to your guild’s rules

  • Built around a Priority Point Pool (PPP) approach:

    • Tiered slot values (e.g., weapons > chest > ring) keep spending meaningful.

    • Burn-on-win means the winner pays; others keep their points.

  • Prefer a pure auction? Just treat the winning bid as the cost. The addon supports either style operationally.

Problems it solves

  • “Who actually deserves this?” → Points + history = visible contribution and prior wins at a glance.

  • “Stop the last-second snipe wars.” → Hidden bids prevent social bidding games.

  • “Loot takes too long.” → One-screen admin controls with item link support and fast reveals.

  • “No one remembers who won last week.” → Searchable Bidding History makes disputes trivial to resolve.

  • “Spreadsheet fatigue.” → Do it in-game where the loot drops, not in another window.

Example setups (two common ways to run it)

A) PPP with slot pricing (recommended)

  • Define slot costs (e.g., 60 for 2-hander, 45 for chest, 30 for ring).

  • Players bid any amount up to their balance. The winner pays the slot price, not their bid (burn-on-win).

  • Benefits: predictable economy, less buyer’s remorse, no runaway bidding inflation.

B) Simple auction

  • Highest hidden bid wins and pays their bid.

  • Benefits: ultra-simple to explain; fits guilds that already love auctions.

Either way, the addon’s reveal + history features stay the same.

Current feature set (v0.6 highlights)

  • Shift-Click Item Link → Instant Bidding Target

  • Dramatic Fade-In Reveal for bids

  • Gold “WINNER” Banner once a winner is determined

  • Results Persist until Reset (so you can discuss)

  • Bidding History (searchable)

  • View History button per item/session

  • Roster/Bidding Tabs

  • Admin Open/Close/Reset controls

  • Player Bidding (wager points right in the addon)
