What's new

PepeCompanion Changelog

v1.6.2

Improved

  • Added native Retail 12.1 TOC recognition while retaining 12.0.7 compatibility.
  • Separated the selected-skin size control from the global size controls and now shows the exact skin being adjusted, including the active Slime Cat animation.
  • Resized DH Pepe against the Default model; its measured body width was 1.32x and is now calibrated to 1.00x.

Fixed

  • Fixed the data-broker text falling back to "Pepe" when the secret Slime Cat skin was selected.

v1.6.1

Fixed

  • Fixed the Retail TOC metadata order so WoW 12.0.7 recognizes and loads the addon correctly.
  • Removed an obsolete pre-release comment that appeared before the Interface metadata.

v1.6.0

New

  • Five more models: Spooky, Pepe'jin, Kyrian, Night Fae and P3-P3 join the list.
  • Smoother animation: Every model was recaptured. Idle animations that used to snap between poses now play through properly, at the speed the game plays them.
  • Sharper sprites: The new captures are cleaner and hold up better at larger sizes.
  • A couple of models are not on the list. They turn up on their own.
  • Ready for patch 12.1: From 12.1 the game stops letting addons read your buffs while a Mythic Keystone is running. The food reminder now goes by what it saw before the key started, so it keeps working inside a key.

Improved

  • Model sizes: Every model is now sized against the default Pepe, so switching skins no longer changes how much of the screen he takes up.
  • Pepe Size scale: The slider now reads 1.00x at the standard size instead of 0.60x. Existing settings are converted on first login.
  • Drag target: The grab area stays a usable size on screen whatever scale you run him at. At the default scale it is about three times what it was.

Fixed

  • Alerts stuck on screen: A missing font could stop setup halfway through and leave an alert showing that would never clear - usually seen as a "Need Repair!" that would not go away.
  • Saved size ignored on login: The companion came back at the standard size after a reload no matter what you had set. Your saved size is applied properly now.
  • Model switch flicker: Switching skins made the companion flash and stretch for an instant before settling.

Note for existing users

The sprites changed, so your saved per-skin size adjustments may no longer line up. The settings panel now has a Reset Size to Default button that puts all three size sliders back to 1.00x and clears the per-skin adjustments in one click. Use it if the companion looks wrong after updating.

Two things about size are worth knowing:

  • The Pepe Size slider now reads 1.00x where it used to read 0.60x. Your stored value is converted on first login, so the companion stays the same size as before. If you had never touched the slider, the companion will be larger than it was, because the old default sat at 0.35x.
  • All three size sliders (Pepe Size, Plumpness, Skin Size) now start at 1.00x and sit at the centre of their range.

v1.5.2

Fixed

  • Secret Aura Safety: Wrapped food-buff spell ID lookup so hidden/secret aura values in modern WoW clients cannot trigger Lua errors during dungeon checks.

v1.5.1

Fixed

  • Food Buff Refresh: Added delayed rescans after player aura and food-related spell events so the food alert clears promptly after eating in dungeons and raids.
  • Food Buff Detection: Replaced corrupted Japanese food-buff pattern entries with safe escaped strings and added spell ID matching for common Well Fed buffs.

v1.5.0

New Features & Optimization

  • TOC Infrastructure Refresh: Standardized TOC file naming conventions to align with the latest standards for all Classic versions.
    • Retail: PepeCompanion.toc
    • World of Warcraft Classic: PepeCompanion_Vanilla.toc
    • Burning Crusade Anniversary: PepeCompanion_TBC.toc
    • Mists of Pandaria Classic: PepeCompanion_Mists.toc
  • Logic Refinement: Improved reliability of dungeon/raid and food buff detection through revised logic checks.
  • Classic UI Compatibility: Fixed Lua errors and improved reliability when opening the settings panel in older Classic clients (MoP/TBC).
  • Expanded Support: Officially added support for Burning Crusade Anniversary and Mists of Pandaria Classic.

v1.4.4

Fixed & Improved

  • Food Buff Detection Overhaul: Rebuilt the buff detection system using a universal AuraUtil wrapper. This guarantees bulletproof cross-compatibility across Retail (The War Within), Cataclysm, and Classic Era without failing due to Blizzard's internal API changes. Added support for newer food buff names like "Satiated" and "Fed".
  • Dungeon Detection Fix: Fixed a bug where food alerts would silently fail upon entering an instance due to server-side loading delays. The detection now uses the immediate IsInInstance() API.
  • Size Scale Adjustment: Fixed the massive default rendering size in Classic clients. The scale slider range is now vastly expanded (0.15x to 1.50x) with a new default of 0.35x, allowing for much finer control.
  • Classic Support: Updated TOC metadata to officially support the latest Classic Era / SoD (1.15.8) and Cataclysm Classic (4.4.2) patches.

v1.4.3

Fixed

  • Resolved dungeon/raid zone status caching issues to ensure food buff alerts consistently trigger upon initial zone entering or interface reloading.

v1.4.2

Fixed

  • Cleaned up garbled legacy comments in Lua files, converting all internal documentation to clean English ASCII to prevent patch loading instability and code execution glitches caused by encoding corruption.
  • Removed duplicated print logs inside slash commands.
  • Enhanced overall code readability and execution safety.

v1.4.1

Improved

  • Adjusted the UI frame layer to prevent Pepe from hiding important game windows like the Talent Tree.
  • Optimized internal background processes to improve stability.

v1.4.0

Visual Improvements

  • Faithful Model Representation: Improved the companion's appearance to accurately capture the vibrant colors and shading of the original WoW Pepe model.
  • Improved Visual Quality: Fixed visual layering issues for a cleaner, more polished look.

General Improvements

  • Streamlined Commands: Removed unnecessary debug commands for a cleaner user experience.
  • Optimization: Improved overall performance and reduced memory usage.
  • Documentation: Updated the addon instructions and help text.

v1.3.4

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the PepeCompanion frame could be hidden behind action bars (like Bartender4) by changing its FrameStrata to DIALOG.

v1.3.3

  • Bumped Interface version to 120005 for WoW Patch 12.0.5 compatibility.
  • Added Dragon, Ninja, Viking, Pirates, and Knight Pepe models to the Skin Type selection.

v1.3.2

New Features

  • Added individual on/off toggles in the settings panel for each alert type (Repair, Food Buff, Inventory).
  • Added "Repair Alert Level" slider in settings to customize the durability alert threshold (5% to 75%).

Bug Fixes

  • Suppressed food buff alerts during combat in raid/dungeon encounters to prevent false positives when aura names become secret.

v1.3.1

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed Lua error on login caused by currentLanguage being declared twice at module scope (variable shadowing introduced in v1.3.0)
  • Fixed status alerts not appearing on initial login after the event-driven refactoring in v1.3.0 — initial state is now correctly calculated at addon load
  • Fixed UpdateStatusDisplay reassignment inside OnAddonLoaded not being visible to all closures under certain execution orders
  • No changes to features, visuals, or SavedVariables

v1.3.0

Performance Improvements

  • Removed UpdateStatusDisplay() from the animation ticker (was running 20 times/sec)
  • Removed the redundant 0.5-second periodic ticker
  • Replaced C_UnitAuras.GetUnitAuras() with GetAuraDataByIndex() — eliminates per-frame table allocation
  • Replaced unpack() in the animation loop with direct index access
  • Status checks (durability, food, inventory) are now fully event-driven:
    • Durability recalculates on UPDATE_INVENTORY_DURABILITY
    • Inventory recalculates on BAG_UPDATE_DELAYED
    • Food buff and zone recalculate on ZONE_CHANGED / PLAYER_REGEN_ENABLED
  • No changes to features, visuals, or SavedVariables

v1.2.0

  • Added Settings panel (Game Menu → Interface → AddOns → Pepe Companion)
  • Added Show/Hide toggle in settings
  • Added Language toggle (Japanese/English) in settings
  • Added Frame Lock toggle in settings
  • Added Scale slider in settings
  • Scale changes now preserve visual screen position
  • Added /pepe settings command to open settings panel
  • Improved SavedVariables migration for old installs
  • Added charDefaults table for cleaner default handling

v1.1.1

  • Fixed food buff detection in raid zones using auraInstanceID
  • Improved error handling for WoW 12.0 secret value restrictions
  • Food warning now works correctly in all dungeon/raid instances
  • Enhanced safety measures across buff detection functions

v1.1.0

  • Lock status saved per character
  • Improved position saving reliability
