Power Infusion Helper (PIH) User Guide

The current addon interface uses Chinese labels. This guide gives their English meaning and includes the original Chinese text where it is especially useful for locating a control or status.

1. What PIH Does

Power Infusion Helper, or PIH, helps Priests cast Power Infusion on party or raid members in a configurable priority order.

When you press the PIH keybind, the addon attempts to cast Power Infusion in this order:

1. A valid friendly unit under your mouse cursor.
2. The first candidate shown in the right-hand preview of the settings window.
3. If that candidate is dead, out of range, or out of line of sight, the next candidate.
4. Each remaining loaded candidate in order, until the spell is cast successfully or no valid candidate remains.

PIH never casts automatically. Every cast requires a real key press from the player.

2. Installation

The addon folder should be located at:

World of Warcraft\_retail_\Interface\AddOns\PowerInfusionHelper

At the character-selection screen, open the AddOns list and enable Power Infusion Helper.

If the development test addon PIH_SecurePrototype is also installed, disable it. Enabling both addons can cause them to compete for the same secure button, resulting in a button-name conflict or an unresponsive keybind.

After installing or updating PIH, enter the game and run:

/reload

3. First-Time Setup

Step 1: Open the Settings Window

Enter the following command in chat:

/pih

Enter /pih again to close the window.

You can drag the window by its title bar. Its position is retained only for the current game session; it returns to the center of the screen after relogging or using /reload.

Step 2: Add Priority Rules

Click Add Priority (添加优先级) in the lower-left corner. Every normal rule contains three conditions:

Player AND Class AND Specialization

A group member must satisfy all three conditions to match the rule.

• Player: Select Any, choose someone from the current group, or manually enter Character-Realm.
• Class: Select the required class.
• Specialization: Select one or more specializations. Every rule must retain at least one specialization.

Example:

Any + Mage + Arcane

This rule matches every Arcane Mage in the group.

Character-Realm + Warlock + Demonology

This rule matches only that specific player while they are using the Demonology specialization.

Step 3: Arrange the Rules

Rules are evaluated from top to bottom. A rule placed higher in the list has higher priority.

Drag the three-line handle on the left side of a rule to move it. While dragging, PIH displays a floating copy, an insertion marker, and animated row movement.

If one player matches several rules, they are added only once at the position of the first matching rule.

Step 4: Understand the Other Rule

The list always contains one Other (all previously unmatched DPS) rule.

• It cannot be deleted.
• It can be moved anywhere in the list.
• It adds all online DPS players who have not already been selected by an earlier rule.
• It does not automatically add tanks or healers.
• A normal rule below Other cannot promote someone who was already selected by Other.

For most configurations, place Other at the bottom as a fallback for DPS players without a dedicated rule.

Example:

1. Any + Mage + Arcane
2. Any + Priest + Shadow
3. Other

The resulting order is: Arcane Mages, then Shadow Priests, then all remaining online DPS.

Step 5: Set the Keybind

Click the keybind button in the lower-left corner of the PIH settings window, then press the key you want to assign.

• Esc: Cancel key capture.
• Backspace or Delete: Clear the PIH keybind.
• Keybinds cannot be changed during combat.

You can also configure it through the game menu:

Options → Keybindings → AddOns → Power Infusion Helper

If the selected key was already assigned to another game action, World of Warcraft reassigns it to PIH.

4. Casting Power Infusion

After configuration is complete and the right-hand status displays Synchronized (已同步), press the PIH keybind directly.

PIH does not display a casting icon and does not require an action-bar button.

The casting order is always:

Valid mouseover
→ Loaded candidate 1
→ Loaded candidate 2
→ Loaded candidate 3
→ ...

Mouseover Targeting

A mouseover is the unit currently under your mouse cursor. You can place your cursor over:

• A friendly character in the game world.
• A friendly unit frame in your party or raid frames.

A living friendly mouseover always has the highest priority. If the mouseover is invalid, dead, out of range, or out of line of sight, PIH continues through the configured candidate list.

Do Not Create a /click User Macro

Do not place this command in a user macro:

/click PIH_CastButton

Current Retail versions restrict chained macro execution through /click. PIH is designed to be activated through a direct game keybind, not from another user macro.

5. Viewing the Effective Priority Order

The Current Group PI Order preview on the right side of the settings window lists the players the keybind can actually attempt to target.

Each entry includes:

• The player's current specialization.
• Their class.
• The matching rule number, or Other as the source.

You can also enter:

/pih status

This prints the current status and loaded candidate order in chat.

6. “Loaded X/Y” and the 255-Length Limit

World of Warcraft limits the length of secure internal macro text. PIH enforces a strict maximum of 255 and displays:

[Synchronized] Loaded X/Y players (macro length N/255)

• Y is the total number of candidates produced by your rules.
• X is the number that fit completely into the secure casting chain.
• Only loaded candidates appear in the effective-order preview and can be attempted by the keybind.

If the remaining space cannot hold another complete command, PIH displays a yellow Macro Length Warning. It never saves a partially truncated command. It also preserves a strict priority prefix: once a higher-priority candidate does not fit, shorter lower-priority names are not allowed to skip ahead.

In large raids, create explicit rules for only the most important targets instead of expecting the internal macro to contain the entire raid.

7. Automatic Refreshing

PIH automatically rescans the group, obtains specialization information, and rebuilds the priority order when:

• You log in or use /reload.
• You enter the world, change maps, or enter an instance.
• A party or raid member joins, leaves, disconnects, or reconnects.
• You or another group member changes specialization.
• You change your talent loadout, talent page, or Hero Talent configuration.
• Combat ends.
• You add, delete, modify, or move a priority rule.
• You use Undo or Ctrl+Z.

Multiple refresh events occurring close together are merged to avoid redundant scans.

To request an immediate manual scan, enter:

/pih refresh

8. Combat Lockdown

To comply with World of Warcraft's secure-action rules, PIH never changes its secure button or internal macro during combat.

If the group changes, someone changes specialization, or settings are edited during combat:

1. The current PI order remains unchanged.
2. PIH marks the configuration as pending.
3. The group is rescanned and the secure chain is rebuilt automatically after combat.

Messages such as Combat locked: keeping the previous PI order or Will synchronize after combat are normal.

9. Specialization Inspection

PIH must inspect group members to determine their current specializations. Shortly after joining a group, it may display:

Retrieving group specializations: completed/total

PIH progressively updates the casting chain as specialization results become available. If some members cannot be inspected, it completes an initial build with the available information after approximately 10 seconds and marks those members as unresolved.

The addon then retries automatically in the background:

• The first retry occurs after approximately 15 seconds.
• If inspection still fails, the delay increases to 30 seconds.
• Further retries occur no more frequently than once every 60 seconds.

Common reasons specialization information may be unavailable include:

• The member is too far away.
• The member is loading, disconnected, or temporarily unavailable for inspection.
• You recently joined the group or changed maps.
• You are currently in combat.

No manual action is normally required. Move closer to the player and remain out of combat; PIH will inspect them again and update the casting chain automatically. If an automatic retry occurs during combat, it is deferred until combat ends.

You can still use /pih refresh outside combat when you want an immediate retry.

10. Duplicate-Name Protection

The secure casting chain uses short character names that are unique within the current group.

If two cross-realm players have exactly the same short character name, PIH cannot safely distinguish them in the secure macro. Both are skipped to prevent Power Infusion from being cast on the wrong player, and a yellow Duplicate Name Warning is displayed.

11. Undoing Changes

While the settings window is open, click Undo or press Ctrl+Z to revert rule changes.

• Adding, deleting, editing, and moving rules can be undone.
• Ctrl+Z can be enabled or disabled in the settings window.
• Undo history belongs only to the current settings-window session.
• Closing the settings window clears the previous undo history.

12. Slash Commands

/pih             Open or close the settings window
/pih options     Open or close the settings window
/pih status      Print the current status and effective casting order
/pih refresh     Request an immediate rescan; deferred if used in combat
/pih debug       Enable or disable diagnostic logging
/pih test        Run the priority resolver self-test

You normally do not need /pih debug. Enable it only while troubleshooting.

13. Troubleshooting

Nothing Happens When I Press the Keybind

Check the following:

1. The current character is a Priest and has learned Power Infusion.
2. The lower-left keybind button in /pih displays the expected key.
3. The right-hand panel displays Synchronized (已同步) and at least one loaded candidate.
4. The target is online, alive, within casting range, and in line of sight.
5. You are not attempting to activate PIH through /click PIH_CastButton in a user macro.
6. PIH_SecurePrototype is disabled. If it was enabled, disable it and use /reload.
7. /pih status does not report a macro-length, duplicate-name, or unresolved-specialization warning affecting the intended target.

Mouseover Works, but Automatic Candidates Do Not

Check whether the intended candidates actually appear in the effective-order preview. Only players shown there and included in Loaded X/Y are present in the internal macro.

Players with duplicate cross-realm short names are skipped for safety.

The Order Does Not Change Immediately

If you are in combat, this is expected. PIH freezes the secure chain during combat and refreshes it automatically afterward.

Outside combat, wait for specialization inspection to complete. PIH automatically retries unresolved players, or you can request an immediate scan with:

/pih refresh

The Keybind Is Incorrect After Setting It

Use /reload, reopen /pih, click the keybind button, and press the desired key once. That capture key press should not cast Power Infusion. Close the settings window and press the key again to test the actual cast.

14. Saved Data

PIH uses the following SavedVariables table:

PIH saves:

• Priority rules.
• Addon options.
• The keybind through World of Warcraft's own keybinding system.

PIH does not save:

• The settings-window position.
• Current party or raid unit tokens.
• Temporary specialization inspection cache data.
