Description

Norn UI

A refined ElvUI plugin with a Blizzard feel.

Norn UI is an ElvUI plugin that brings back some of the default WoW aesthetic while keeping all the power and configurability of ElvUI underneath. It's designed to be lightweight. Download it, run the profile installer and you're simply good to go.

Requires ElvUI to function. This is a plugin, not a standalone UI replacement.

Main Features

Borders and additional Overlays

Removes ElvUI's default borders on all unit frames and replaces them with custom texture overlays taken from in-game files. Key frames also have dynamic cast bar visuals, the border texture swaps when the unit is casting, giving you a useful visual cue. On top of that, Player, Target, and Party frames get a pulsing combat glow overlay when the unit is in combat, somewhat similar to default unitframes.

This module is always active and cannot be toggled off.

Squircle Minimap

Replaces the default ElvUI minimap with a squircle shape using a custom mask and border texture. Minimap look is heavily inspired by the default minimap.

Damage Meter Skin

Reskins the Blizzard damage meter with a custom bar texture, removes the default bar edges, and adds custom class colors for better visual contrast. Also adds a quick Reset button next to the session dropdown for one-click session resets, I know it already has reset data feature but I find just clicking the button to be faster.

Datatext Icons

Adds small icons next to minimap infobar entries (FPS, Latency, Durability, Location, Time, Bags) for quicker visual identification.

Misc Features

These are things I added simply because they’re extremely lightweight and there’s no point in installing a separate addon for each of them when I can just have the same feature in mine.

Instance Difficulty Badge

Replaces Blizzard's default difficulty icons with a compact, color-coded text badge near the minimap.

Role Icons

Swap ElvUI's tank/healer/DPS role icons with alternative packs.

Quick Focus

Hold Shift and click any unit frame to set it as your focus target. Shift-click the focus frame to clear it.

Quick Keystone

Automatically places your Mythic+ keystone from your bags when you open the keystone slot UI.

Auto-Fill Delete Dialog

Automatically fills in the "DELETE" confirmation text when destroying items, saving you a few keystrokes.

Hide Boss Banner

Prevents the boss kill banner from appearing after defeating a boss.

Queue From Friends

Auto-accepts Dungeon Finder role checks when the party leader is on your friends list. Requires a role to be selected.

Bring Back Blizzard Loot

Disables ElvUI's custom loot window and loot roll window and restores the default Blizzard loot frame.

What This Addon Does NOT Do

If you plan to use this addon, there are a few things you should understand:

  • You cannot change unit frame sizes, for any frame. The textures are static in size. Even if you scale them by modifying the addon, you will lose the pixel-perfect look and the borders will become blurry.
  • You cannot disable or move the power bar or the cast bar. Doing so will leave empty spaces in the overlays.
  • Does not include a nameplate profile. I’m still using the default nameplates so you’re free to use your favorite Plater or Playtnator profile.
  • Does not provide class CDM packages.
  • Can be modified to work with other unitframe addons but currently, does not work without ElvUI installed.
  • It’s mostly tailored around my own preferences and settings, meaning 1440p, 0.53 UI scale and a DPS player setup.
  • Both the API and ElvUI are constantly changing right now, so what works fine now may not work later. This mostly applies to combat state related stuff or the damage meter skin.
  • Retail only.

What The Future Holds

  • Planning to make a secondary set of media files, roughly 33% larger, for people who find the current size a bit too small. This would also mean a secondary profile.
  • I’d also like to eventually make this work with other unit frame addons. Since it’s essentially just a combination of a profile and attachments, but the addon in question would need to be full suite(not missing group frames).
  • Currently using Chattynator but I’m planning to skin the ElvUI chat module to give it more of a default UI feel(similar to Dragonflight announcement screenshot).

Credits

There are so many people to credit that I don’t even know where to start. This began as a simple WeakAura about a year ago then moved to Cell then SUF and eventually settled on ElvUI. Everyone who has worked on these addons in any capacity has my thanks.
