OK. time to drop release-it. it's too buggy, at least in this case for non-node packages. here's what we need to replicate:

• version bumping
  • in GH action
  • discover last version: git describe --tags --abbrev=0 (should work on any commit)
  • bump it with calver -- might require custom CLI tool that i gotta write
  • save bumped version to output
• tag the repo with new version and push ✓
• run wap with new version and package/upload ✓
• create GH release from new tag ✓
  • attach packaged addon ✓
