MileMarker — Changelog

Supported versions

- **Retail** (Interface 120100) — confirmed working.
- **Classic** (Interface 11509, 20506, 38002, 40402, 50504) — covers Classic
Era/"Forever", TBC Classic, Wrath Classic, Cataclysm Classic, and MoP Classic.

If the addon doesn't show up in the AddOns list after a patch, the Interface
number is probably just out of date — see the "About the Interface version"
section in the README.

2.1.5

- Root cause found: "WoW: Forever" (the official Blizzard beta announced at
BlizzCon 2026) runs on the modern **Mainline** UI engine/API, even though
its Interface number (16001) looks like a Classic-style number. The client
was very likely reading `MileMarker_Mainline.toc`, which didn't list 16001.
- All three TOC files now list the same full combined set of Interface
numbers (Retail, every Classic flavor, and 16001/70205 for Forever), so it
no longer matters which file the client picks.

2.1.4

- The fallback `MileMarker.toc` now lists every known Interface number (Retail
and all Classic flavors combined), not just Retail's. On clients where the
  `_Classic` flavor-suffixed TOC isn't picked up (e.g. some non-standard
Classic progression realms), the client falls back to the plain
`MileMarker.toc`, and it was previously Retail-only there, causing a hard
"Incompatible" flag instead of just "out of date".

2.1.3

- Added Interface 16001 to the Classic TOC, confirmed via `GetBuildInfo()` on
a "WoW Forever" progression client, fixing "incompatible" there.

2.1.2

- Added Interface 70205 to the Classic TOC, for clients reporting that exact
build (confirmed via `GetBuildInfo()`), fixing "incompatible" on that client.

2.1.1

- Fixed Retail showing as "incompatible": the TOC only listed the 12.1.0 PTR
Interface number (120100), not the live 12.0.7 Interface number (120007).
Both are now listed, so it works on live and PTR.

2.1.0

- The counter is now stored per character instead of being shared across
the whole account. /steps reset, and the menu's reset only affect the
  character you're logged in on.
- Existing data is preserved: the first character you log in with after
updating inherits your previous account-wide total; every other character
  starts at 0.
- Settings (language, unit, size, lock) are still shared across all characters.

2.0.0

- Renamed the addon from StepCounter to **MileMarker** (folder, files,
  SavedVariables, frame names).
- Added /mm as a short alias for /steps (both work identically).

1.9.0

- Added a lock/unlock toggle for the window's position (menu checkbox +
  /steps lock / /steps unlock).
- Added a full English translation of the README (README.en.md).

1.8.0

- Added a size slider (50%–200%) to the right-click menu to scale the window.

1.7.0

- Added Russian (ru) language support, with locale auto-detection.

1.6.0

- Added German (de), French (fr), and Spanish (es) language support.
- Language is now auto-selected on first run based on the client's locale.

1.5.0

- Gave the window a styled backdrop (dark, semi-transparent background, gold
border) and a small title label.

1.4.0

- Added a right-click options menu (language, unit, reset, hide).
- Distance no longer counts while mounted or on a flight path.

1.3.0

- Added the ability to switch the displayed unit between steps, kilometers,
  and miles (/steps unit steps|km|mi).

1.2.0

- Large numbers are now abbreviated (e.g. 10.2K, 1.5M) so the display
doesn't get unreadably long during a long session.
- The command list is now printed to chat automatically on load.

1.1.0

- Added bilingual support: English (default) and Norwegian, switchable with
  /steps lang en|no.

1.0.0

- Initial release: a draggable window showing an estimated step count, based
on distance traveled (speed × time) divided by an assumed average stride
  length.
- Slash commands: /steps reset, /steps session, /steps show,
  /steps hide.
