MidnightHUD 12.1.0 – Native Aura Update
MidnightHUD has been updated for WoW 12.1.0 and the new Blizzard aura restrictions.
The Blizzard Buffs/Debuffs module now uses the new native AuraContainer / AuraButton system during combat.
This means:
- Outside combat, MidnightHUD can still show the familiar buff and debuff names as text
- During combat, the addon switches to Blizzard-managed native aura icons
- Icons, stacks and durations remain visible
- The MidnightHUD frame itself keeps its position, scale, border and lock state
- No fallback to the default Blizzard BuffFrame is required
- Manual combat polling has been removed where possible, reducing unnecessary work
- The implementation avoids directly reading protected/secret aura data during combat
This change was necessary because WoW 12.1.0 restricts addon access to aura information much more aggressively.
And yes, at this point it is getting a little excessive.
Apparently even replacing aura icons with simple readable names is now too much freedom for an addon during combat. If this continues, Blizzard might as well replace the rest of the UI with little pictures too — reading text may soon be considered dangerously powerful.
Jokes aside, the goal of this update is to keep MidnightHUD stable, taint-safe and functional under the new 12.1.0 rules while preserving as much of the original interface as Blizzard still allows.
