## [0.10.0] - 2026-10-03

### Added

- **Story so far.** When you hand in a quest from a lore quest chain, a card explains what just happened in the story and what comes next, with the name of the next quest. All 199 steps of the 26 quest chains have their own card.

- **Quest chain progress.** Each chain's page shows how many of its quests you've handed in, with a tick next to each one you've finished.

- **Boss epilogues.** When you defeat a boss, a card tells the story of what you just did and what it meant, plus how many of that dungeon's bosses you've beaten. Every one of the 246 bosses in the classic dungeons and raids has an epilogue.

- **Defeated bosses.** A boss's page shows "Defeated", how many times and the date of your first kill. Dungeon and raid pages tick off the bosses you've beaten.

- **5 new achievements** (37 in all): The Firelord's Fall, Legends Slain (Ragnaros, Onyxia, Nefarian, C'Thun and Kel'Thuzad), Boss Hunter (50 bosses), The Story Goes On (finish a quest chain) and Keeper of Tales (finish 10).

- Both cards wait until combat ends, can be dragged anywhere, and can be turned off in Settings > Banners & reminders. Progress is saved even when the cards are off.

### Fixed

- Corrected the start of three quest chain stories: The Legend of Stalvan, In the Name of the Light and In Dreams now match the real quests.

### Added

- **Quest Chains**, a new category with 26 of classic WoW's great lore questlines: Onyxia's attunement for both factions, the Scepter of the Shifting Sands, In Dreams, the Battle of Darrowshire, the Missing Diplomat, Thunderfury, Atiesh and more. Each one explains the story and lists its quests in order.

- **Quest chain button.** When a quest, or the character you're talking to, is part of a lore quest chain, a "Quest chain" button appears beside the quest window (above the Lore button), beside the chat window when you talk to them, and in the quest log. It opens the chain with your current quest highlighted.

- **219 bosses.** Every named boss of the classic dungeons and raids now has an entry, and each dungeon and raid page lists its bosses in the order you meet them. The four Emerald Dragons are in too.

- **Dungeon briefing.** When you enter a dungeon or raid, a card shows its story and the bosses you're about to face. Click a boss to read about it. It waits until combat ends, can be moved, and you can choose how often it shows (once per dungeon each session by default). Preview any of them with `/lorevault briefing <name>`.

- **Dungeon art.** Dungeon and raid pages, and their briefings, show the dungeon's painting from the game's Adventure Guide when the game has one.

- **On the timeline.** Character, place and group pages list every event they took part in, in the order it happened.

- **Visual timeline.** A "Timeline view" button shows the whole history from left to right, grouped by era, with a "Jump to era" menu (`/lorevault timeline`).

- **Filters.** A Filter button above every list narrows it by expansion, era, side (Alliance, Horde, Scourge...) and, in search results, by category.

- **Continue reading.** A new Continue button opens the next entry you haven't read: the next step of your story path, or the next unread entry in the list.

- **Parchment style.** Settings > Reading can switch the window to dark ink on old paper.

- 2 new achievements (32 in all).

### Changed

- The Lore button's list on quests now opens to the side, so it never covers the Quest chain button.

- Events on a character's "On the timeline" list are no longer repeated under "Appears in".

- Inside a dungeon or raid, the briefing replaces the "You have entered" banner.

## [0.8.0] - 2026-10-02

### Added

- **The Skyborne**, the new race of WoW: Forever. Their history is in the normal categories: the Skyborne themselves, their rebel leader Shal'nan the Veiled One, their floating home Zephras Isle, and a new event on the ancient timeline, the Flight of the Shen'dorei, when they broke away from the Shen'dralar of Eldre'Thalas. Tortheldrin, Immol'thar, the Shen'dralar and Dire Maul now link to them.

- **Source line.** Entries can now say where their lore comes from, shown under the title. The Skyborne entries say "Source: WoW: Forever (pre-launch information)", because they are based on what was shared before the game's release. Their present-day story, including the High Order, the Windshapers and the Al'Aketh, will be added once it's confirmed in game.

### Changed

- **Skywall** now separates what it is (the elemental plane of air) from what happened there in Cataclysm, which moved to its own "Later, in Cataclysm" section. It stays in the Cataclysm pack for now.

### Added

- **Cataclysm lore.** 54 new entries: Deathwing's return and the Shattering, the elemental lords and their realms (the Firelands, Skywall, Vashj'ir and Deepholm), Uldum and the Tol'vir, the Twilight Highlands, the fall of Gilneas and the worgen, the Bilgewater goblins, Garrosh as Warchief, the death of Cairne, Magni's transformation, the Firelands invasion and the Hour of Twilight, plus a new timeline era. Like the other expansions, it starts hidden on WoW: Forever and is unlocked on Retail.

- **"Later, in Cataclysm"** sections on 110 entries you already know, from Thousand Needles and Darkshore to Thrall, Sylvanas, Ragnaros and Stormwind.

- **68 more classic entries:** 33 characters (Genn Greymane, Baine Bloodhoof, Cho'gall, Zul'jin, Rexxar, Teron Gorefiend, the elemental lords, Archbishop Benedictus, Keeper Remulos, Drek'Thar, Vanndar Stormpike and more), 25 towns and places (Booty Bay, Gadgetzan, Southshore, Tarren Mill, the Caverns of Time, Zul'Aman, the battlegrounds and more) and 10 groups (the Earthen Ring, SI:7, the Sentinels, the Stormpike Guard, the Explorers' League and more).

- 4 new story paths (21 in all), 3 new achievements (30 in all) and 50 new quiz questions (118 in all).

- Total: 538 entries.

### Changed

- The spoiler notice is now remembered for each expansion. If you already answered it for The Burning Crusade and Wrath, you'll be asked once about Cataclysm.

- "Later, in..." sections can now show three expansions on one page.

### Added

- **Expansion lore: The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King.** 84 new entries covering Outland, Illidan, the blood elves and draenei, Northrend, the Wrathgate, Ulduar and the fall of the Lich King, plus two new timeline eras.

- **Spoiler protection.** On classic-era games like WoW: Forever, expansion lore starts hidden. A one-time notice asks if you want to unlock it, and you can unlock or hide each expansion any time in Settings > Expansion lore. Opening a hidden entry also asks first. On Retail, expansion lore is unlocked from the start.

- **"Later, in..." sections.** Pages of characters and places you already know, like Illidan, Arthas, Sylvanas and the Sunwell, show what happened to them in each expansion you've unlocked.

- **The full story.** A "Read the full story" button on 11 major entries opens a longer, step-by-step telling: Arthas, Thrall, Jaina, Sylvanas, Illidan, Medivh, Kel'Thuzad, Deathwing, the War of the Ancients, the First War and the Second War.

- **Magic & Powers**, a new category: the Holy Light, arcane, fel, shamanism, druidism, necromancy, the loa, the Twisting Nether and the elemental planes.

- **44 more classic entries:** 17 zones (Elwynn Forest, Duskwood, the Hinterlands, Felwood, Un'Goro Crater, Moonglade and more), creatures and peoples (murlocs, gnolls, kobolds, naga, satyrs, ogres, harpies, furbolgs, goblins) and smaller factions (Thorium Brotherhood, Steamwheedle Cartel, Bloodsail Buccaneers, Twilight's Hammer and more). Total: 415 entries.

- 6 new story paths (17 in all), 5 new achievements (27 in all) and 17 new quiz questions (68 in all). Expansion paths, achievements and questions only appear once that expansion is unlocked.

### Changed

- The Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms explorer achievements now include the new zones.

- Entry lists show a small TBC or WotLK tag on expansion entries.

### Added

- **Choose how often place banners show:** until you've read that place's entry (the new default), only the first time you visit, once each time you log in, or every time you enter.

### Changed

- **Settings are grouped by feature** into six sections: General, Banners & reminders, Lore in the world, Reading, Discovery & progress, and Daily quiz. Each section has a short description, and a list on the left jumps straight to it.

- Settings that depend on another one are indented and greyed out while it's off. For example, the banner options grey out when notifications are turned off.

- **Lore of the Day now picks an entry you haven't read yet** (once you've read everything, it picks from all entries) and keeps the same entry for the whole day.

### Changed

- **Achievements now work like the other tabs.** The middle panel lists all 22 achievements with their progress, and clicking one shows its details on the right: a progress bar, a tip on how to earn it, and a "Still to go" list of the exact places, events or entries you still need, each one a link.

- **Daily Quiz and Settings use the full width** of the window, instead of leaving the previous list showing in the middle.

### Fixed

- Side menu labels no longer overlap their counts (for example "Achievements" and "5/22"). The side menu is a little wider, and a label now always stops before its count.

- **Story paths.** 11 guided reading lists, such as "The Fall of Arthas", "The Rise of the New Horde" and "Secrets of the Old Gods". Each shows your progress, and while you follow one, every entry page shows which step you're on and links to the next one (`/lorevault paths`).

- **Lore achievements.** 22 achievements for reading, exploring, finishing story paths, quiz streaks, notes and sharing, with a banner when you earn one (`/lorevault achievements`).

- **Personal notes** on every entry. Notes are saved with your progress, and search finds them too.

- **Lore in quests.** When a quest mentions a character, place or event in LoreVault, a "Lore" button appears next to the quest window and in the quest log, listing those entries.

- **Legendary item tooltips.** Hover Sulfuras, Thunderfury, Atiesh or the Ashbringer to see their story.

- **Lore of the Day.** A banner at login with a different entry each day (`/lorevault today`), also in the minimap menu.

- **19 new entries:** dungeon bosses and minor characters (Majordomo Executus, Vaelastrasz, Rend Blackhand, General Drakkisath, Moira Bronzebeard, Alexandros Mograine, Scarlet Commander Mograine, High Inquisitor Whitemane, Baron Rivendare, Tirion and Taelan Fordring, Eitrigg, Jin'do, Lord Kazzak, Azuregos, Thunderaan) and three legendary items (the Ashbringer, Thunderfury, Atiesh). Total: 286 entries.

- New settings for each feature: Lore of the Day, achievement banners, the quest Lore button and item tooltips.

- **Notifications master switch** at the top of the settings page. Turning it off stops every LoreVault pop-up and chat message (new-place banners, discovery banners and the quiz reminder). Discovery still works quietly in the background.

### Added

- **Mark entries as read or unread.** Use the new Mark read / Mark unread button on any entry, or right-click a row in the list. The settings page also has a "Mark everything as read" button.

- **Reset progress** buttons in a new "Your progress" section of the settings page: Reset all progress, Reset reading & discovery, and Reset quiz stats. Each one asks you to click twice, so you can't reset by accident. Bookmarks and settings are always kept.

### Fixed

- The Read aloud, Share and Bookmark buttons no longer overlap the entry type and badge at the top of a page. The buttons now sit on their own row, and they line up neatly whichever ones are turned on.

### Removed

- The "World of Warcraft: Forever" placeholder event on the timeline. Forever's story will be added once Blizzard reveals it. Total: 267 entries.

### Added

- **Lore for where you are.** A banner appears when you enter a city, zone or dungeon that has an entry, with a button to read its story. Banners wait until combat ends.

- **Lore in character tooltips.** Hover a famous character, like Thrall or Jaina, to see who they are. **Alt+click** them (or type `/lorevault target`) to open their page.

- **World map pins.** Book icons on continent and zone maps mark places with lore. Hover to preview, click to open.

- **"Lore on this map" button** on the world map that lists the place's entry and everything that mentions it.

- **Discovery.** Entries you haven't read show a gold dot. Places are discovered when you visit them and characters when you meet them. Progress bars show "Read" and "Found in the world", also in the minimap tooltip.

- **Daily lore quiz** with 51 questions, a streak counter, your best streak, practice questions and an optional login reminder (`/lorevault quiz`).

- **Share in chat.** Shift+click any entry, or use the Share button, to post `[LoreVault: Name]`. Other LoreVault users can click it to open the same page.

- **Read aloud** using the game's text-to-speech, with adjustable reading speed (`/lorevault stop` to stop).

- **Timeline eras.** The timeline is grouped into five eras that you can collapse: The Ancient World, The Age of Kingdoms, The Great Wars, The Third War and The Age of Heroes.

- **3D models.** Characters you have met get a turning 3D model on their page.

- **Settings page** (gear button, `/lorevault settings`, or Options > AddOns > LoreVault). Every new feature can be turned on or off, plus window size, text size and reading speed.

- **35 new entries:** 11 dungeons (Ragefire Chasm, Wailing Caverns, The Stockade, Shadowfang Keep, Blackfathom Deeps, Razorfen Kraul, Razorfen Downs, Zul'Farrak, Maraudon, Dire Maul and Scholomance), 5 zones, 12 characters and 7 peoples. Total: 268 entries.

- Right-click menu on the minimap button now has Daily quiz, Settings and "Lore for" your current place.

- Version number shown in the window header and settings (`/lorevault version`).

### Changed

- Saved data is upgraded automatically from 0.1.0. Your bookmarks and minimap settings are kept.

- The window is a little taller to fit the new features.

### Developer

- Version control with git, tagged releases (`v0.1.0`, `v0.2.0`).

- `tools/release.py` bumps the version, checks this changelog, runs the build and tests, and makes the CurseForge zip.

- `tests/mock_wow.py` now tests every feature (139 checks).
