What's new

Changelog

[0.9.2] - 2026-08-31

Fixed

  • Spell tooltips work again — hovering a spell called GameTooltip:SetSpell, which was removed from the client in 6.0; every mouseover threw a Lua error and no tooltip ever appeared. Now uses SetSpellBookItem, the same call the default spellbook makes
  • Click-to-select restored — left-click selects/deselects a spell again as the README documents (the 0.9.1 change made click pick the spell up onto the cursor, which surprised anyone expecting the highlight; the default Blizzard book actually casts on click, so pickup-on-click matched nothing). Dragging to action bars still works via drag
  • New-spell glow lands on the right spell — the glow was keyed by spellbook slot number, which shifts when the tab re-sorts after training; training two spells could leave the glow on the wrong cell. Now keyed by name+rank
  • New-spell glow works on alts — "seen spells" moved to per-character storage (LoreJournalSpellbookCharDB); on the old account-wide table the first character seeded every key, so a second character of the same class never saw a glow
  • Blank page after the list shrinks — the scroll offset is now clamped when the spell list shrinks (respec removing talent-granted spells), instead of rendering an empty grid past the end

Changed

  • SPELLS_CHANGED refreshes are debounced (0.1s) — the event fires in bursts at login/zoning and each refresh re-enumerated the entire spellbook
  • Version strings aligned: TOC/README said 0.9.0-beta while the 0.9.1 features had already shipped

[0.9.1] - 2026-03-23

Added

  • Spells can now be dragged directly from the book onto action bars (PickupSpellBookItem on drag start)
  • New-spell alert glow — tabs and individual spell icons flash a gold highlight (UIFrameFlash) when a spell is newly learned
  • Known spells are seeded into SavedVariables on login so only spells learned after that point trigger the glow
  • Glow clears per-tab when the player clicks that tab

Changed

  • Left-clicking a spell now picks it up for action bar placement (matches default Blizzard spellbook behavior); previously only toggled a selection highlight
  • ESC now closes the book — replaced broken OnKeyDown/SetPropagateKeyboardInput approach with standard UISpecialFrames registration; frame now has global name LoreJournalSpellbookFrame

Fixed

  • UIFrameFlash duration corrected from 0 (stops immediately on first frame) to -1 (flash indefinitely until dismissed); glow was being created but never visually appeared

[0.9.0-beta] - 2026-03-22

Initial public beta release.

Added

  • Open-book grid layout replacing the default Blizzard spellbook
  • 4-column × 6-row visible grid spanning the full book width
  • Horizontal cell layout: icon on the left, spell name and description on the right
  • Inline spell description text rendered directly in each cell — no hover required
  • School-colored spell names (Affliction, Demonology, Destruction, Arcane, Frost, Fire, Holy, Shadow, Arms, Fury, Protection)
  • Matching colored tab labels, dimmed when inactive, full color on the active tab
  • Rank number appended inline to spell name (e.g. "Corruption 4")
  • Hover tooltip using the standard WoW spell tooltip
  • Passive spell indicator — desaturated icon with dim overlay
  • Click-to-select spell highlight with toggle-off on second click
  • Mouse wheel scrolling and scroll up/down buttons
  • Spell count label and row indicator in the bottom control strip
  • Draggable frame with position saved to LoreJournalSpellbookDB
  • Combat lock — book closes on combat entry, blocked from opening during combat
  • Intercepts ToggleSpellBook so P and macro keybinds open this book instead
  • Hooks SpellBookFrame:OnShow to suppress the default UI
  • Pet spellbook and non-spell book types pass through to the default Blizzard UI
  • Class-specific background art for Mage and Warlock; default parchment for all other classes
  • Slash commands: /ljsb, /ljsb debug, /ljsb logs, /ljsb reset, /ljsb help
  • Internal log buffer (60 entries) for in-game diagnostics

Known Issues

  • General tab spells are not school-colored (no associated talent tree)
  • Class backgrounds require matching texture files; missing textures render as transparent
  • Tested on Warlock and Warrior — other classes pending broader validation

Release target for 1.0.0: all classes validated, no known visual or functional regressions.
