Description
Lootberater
Lootberater is a transparent loot recommendation and decision-support addon for World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Anniversary.
It helps Master Looters and raid members understand who benefits most from an item and why.
Instead of relying on a single BiS list, Lootberater combines:
- current equipped gear
- real upgrade value
- class and specialization suitability
- Phase 3 BiS information
- raid loot priority
- set bonuses and gear transitions
- relevant stat and cap context
- weapon, trinket and slot-specific rules
- multiple source recommendations where available
Conflicting recommendations are not hidden. If different sources disagree, Lootberater can show that disagreement as additional decision context.
The core principle remains:
The biggest real upgrade wins. Loot priority is secondary context and helps resolve close or contested decisions.
Unknown or incomparable values are never silently guessed.
Supported Specializations
Lootberater currently supports 20 raid profiles.
Healers
- Holy / Discipline Priest
- Restoration Shaman
- Restoration Druid
- Holy Paladin
Tanks
- Protection Warrior
- Protection Paladin
- Feral Bear
Physical DPS
- Beast Mastery Hunter
- Survival Hunter
- Enhancement Shaman
- Combat Rogue
- Feral Cat
- Arms Warrior
- Fury Warrior
- Retribution Paladin
Caster DPS
- Arcane Mage
- Destruction Warlock
- Elemental Shaman
- Shadow Priest
- Balance Druid
How Lootberater Works
When a supported item is evaluated, Lootberater determines which specializations can realistically use it and compares the item against the player's current gear.
Example:
Current item value: 80
New item value: 100
Real upgrade: +20
Another player may already have a value-95 item and therefore gain only +5.
Even if both players are eligible for the item, the larger real upgrade will normally rank higher.
Loot priority is then used as additional context rather than replacing the actual upgrade comparison.
Spec-Aware Gear Evaluation
Lootberater does more than compare two generic item scores.
The evaluation layer can take specialization-specific factors into account, including:
- equipped gems
- socket potential
- relevant stat priorities
- Hit and other cap-related context where reliably known
- active set bonuses
- T5 → T6 set transitions
- dual-wield and weapon-slot handling
- rings and trinkets with multiple possible comparison slots
- tank mitigation / threat requirements
- healer-specific item effects
- specialization-specific item exceptions
For example, an item that looks stronger on a generic EP scale may still be a poor upgrade if it breaks an important set bonus or trades away a highly valuable specialization-specific stat.
Where a reliable comparison cannot be made, Lootberater keeps the result open instead of inventing precision.
Transparent Recommendations
Lootberater is designed to explain recommendations instead of only displaying a priority number.
Depending on the item and available data, the addon can display:
- current equipped item
- current item value
- new item value
- real upgrade delta
- class/spec suitability
- BiS or alternative status
- loot priority
- conditional priority
- set-transition context
- source recommendations
- relevant alternatives
- recommendation explanation
- detected source conflicts
The original World of Warcraft item tooltip remains available directly from the Lootberater interface.
Why This Priority?
BiS status, item strength and raid loot priority are treated as separate concepts.
An item can be BiS for multiple specializations while one of them has:
- fewer realistic alternatives
- a larger real upgrade
- a stronger set interaction
- a higher documented raid priority
Lootberater therefore keeps these signals separate and explains them whenever supporting data is available.
Different sources may legitimately disagree.
Lootberater does not force those disagreements into a fake consensus.
Phase 3 Source Database
Lootberater includes a curated Phase 3 data layer for Mount Hyjal and Black Temple.
The database combines structured information from multiple types of sources, including:
- Phase 3 BiS recommendations
- raid loot-priority guides
- specialization-specific guide information
- available simulation comparisons
- curated item and gear-transition rules
The source database and the actual player upgrade calculation are deliberately separated.
Guide recommendations provide context.
The player's real equipped gear determines the actual upgrade comparison whenever enough information is available.
Tier 6 Tokens
Lootberater recognizes the active Phase 3 Tier 6 tokens from:
- Mount Hyjal
- Black Temple
Instead of treating a token as a generic item, Lootberater can resolve it to the corresponding class/spec Tier 6 reward.
This allows the comparison to consider the actual resulting item and relevant set transitions instead of assigning a generic token value.
Future-phase Tier 6 tokens are intentionally not treated as active Phase 3 raid loot.
Personal Item Check
Players can evaluate items outside of an active loot situation.
Use:
/lootberater item
or:
/lootberater item <itemID / item link>
Lootberater compares the selected item against the player's currently equipped gear where a reliable comparison is possible.
Items can also be inserted directly from bags or compatible loot browsers through the supported click interaction.
Test Center
Lootberater includes a standalone Test Center.
Use:
/lootberater testcenter
The Test Center can simulate all currently supported healer, tank, physical-DPS and caster-DPS profiles without requiring another character or an active raid.
It includes complete fictional T5 / Phase 2 gear profiles so that testing is not limited to a simple artificial item-value comparison.
This allows testing of:
- real slot comparisons
- specialization evaluation
- set transitions
- Tier 6 token resolution
- suitability
- BiS information
- loot priority
- recommendation explanations
- Master Looter and raid-client previews
The current evaluation framework has been tested across all 20 supported profiles and their Tier 6 transitions.
Master Looter
The recommended Master Looter setup is:
Gargul + Lootberater
Gargul remains responsible for:
- SoftRes information
- rolls
- loot distribution
Lootberater acts as the recommendation and decision-support layer.
The actual World of Warcraft Master Looter always remains authoritative.
Raid Member View
Raid members only need Lootberater to receive recommendations generated by the Master Looter.
Clients can receive a compact read-only result containing information such as:
- item
- recommendation
- ranking
- personal upgrade value
More detailed recommendation information can also be viewed when needed.
Automatic Raid Detection
Lootberater can automatically detect supported raid roles and specializations where possible.
This includes supported:
- healers
- tanks
- physical DPS
- caster DPS
The Master Looter can review the detected roster and manually override individual players where necessary.
No guild-specific character names are required.
Gargul Integration
Lootberater does not replace Gargul.
Master Looter: Gargul + Lootberater
Raid members: Lootberater
Loot distribution itself continues to be handled through Gargul.
LibItemDB
Lootberater can use LibItemDB as an additional item-scoring and comparison source.
The curated Lootberater data layer remains separate from generic EP scoring.
This prevents unrelated scoring systems from being mixed into misleading upgrade values.
If no reliable curated comparison exists, LibItemDB can provide a neutral baseline where applicable.
Current Raid Support
The current version focuses on:
Mount Hyjal
Black Temple
Automatic raid evaluation is intentionally focused on the current Phase 3 raid environment.
The addon includes Phase 3 information for all currently supported healer, tank, physical-DPS and caster-DPS profiles.
Minimap Menu
Lootberater includes a movable minimap button providing quick access to:
- item evaluation
- player detection
- demo mode
- Test Center
- status and diagnostics
- Master Looter functions when applicable
The menu position is saved between sessions.
Commands
Main command:
/lootberater
Useful commands include:
/lootberater me
/lootberater item
/lootberater demo
/lootberater testcenter
/lootberater roster
/lootberater db
Additional diagnostic and testing commands are available for troubleshooting.
Development Status
Lootberater is actively developed for The Burning Crusade Anniversary raid environment.
The current Phase 3 evaluation framework supports 20 raid specializations and has completed a full 40/40 gear-profile and Tier 6 transition validation test.
The addon is designed to provide transparent, explainable decision support.
It does not attempt to replace raid leadership.
The final loot decision always remains with the Master Looter and raid leadership.
