LayoutLines

Place lines on your screen to help you align UI elements. Like others you've used before, but different.

Lines are placed by dividing the screen evenly, rather than simply using a grid. Choose ratios that complement your layout. Lines are symmetrical from the exact dead centre of the screen.

An inset or border can be drawn to ensure elements are placed consistently around the edge of your screen.

If you want your UI to be used on more than one screen, choose alternate aspect ratios that simulate other monitor resolutions. I like designing in 16:9 even though I use an ultrawide monitor.

Optionally, display an azure blue background to prevent the viewport and the busy 3D world from distracting you. This is a good alternative to finding open sky and pointing your camera straight up!

Lines are drawn using textures and strategic math to ensure 1 pixel precision, helping to prevent unpredictable rounding by UI scaling or GPU rendering.

• use /ll to toggle lines
• use /ll opt to open the settings window
• use the sliders to choose the number of vertical and horizontal divisions
• use the drop-down to choose an alternate aspect ratio
• use the checkbox to select the background. The background is only shown when the lines are shown
• toggle the lines with the Toggle Guidelines button (or just use the /ll command alone)
