Kickbrain changelog

First public beta of Kickbrain, a party interrupt tracker for World of Warcraft: Midnight (patch 12.1.5), built for Mythic+.

Tracking

• One bar per party member: class colour, interrupt icon, cooldown swipe and timer. Ready kicks are listed first.
• Five sources, from most to least trusted:
  • Exact: your own casts and your real cooldown, read from the game when it allows.
  • Synced: reports from other Kickbrain users.
  • Observed: party members' casts, when the game shows the spell.
  • Inferred: interrupted enemy casts, credited only when exactly one player could have kicked.
  • Estimated: class, spec and talents.
• A more trusted source always wins over a less trusted one, so a guess never overwrites a real report of the same kick.
• Each bar shows how sure it is: faded bars and markers o (observed), ? (inferred), ~ (estimated). A "no addon" badge marks players without Kickbrain.

Sync between Kickbrain users

• Kicks are shared the moment they happen. Times use the realm server clock, so everyone's timers agree.
• When the game blocks addon chat (for example during boss encounters), messages are held and everyone is caught up with current state when the block ends.
• Incoming messages are checked: the sender must be in your party and the spell must belong to their class. Cooldown values and kick times must be plausible, and each sender is rate-limited.
• A one-time chat note when someone in your group has a newer version.

Interrupt data

• All 40 Midnight specs: which have an interrupt, which interrupts are optional talents, and their cooldowns.
• Healers have no interrupt in Midnight, except Restoration Shaman, whose Wind Shear has a 30-second cooldown.
• Party members are inspected automatically for spec and talents. Until then, a player in the healer role is treated as their class's healer spec.

Options and appearance

• Options panel (Esc > Options > AddOns > Kickbrain, or /kbrain options):
  • Visibility in Mythic+, other dungeons and the open world. Always hidden in raids, battlegrounds and arenas.
  • Lock, scale, width and row height.
  • Bar texture, font, font size and outline. The lists include every texture and font your other addons share through LibSharedMedia, plus Blizzard's own.
• /kbrain test previews a simulated party.

Diagnostics

• /kbrain probe counts what the game let Kickbrain read: hidden values, where addon chat was blocked, and how interrupted enemy casts were resolved.
• /kbrain roster and /kbrain sync show each member's interrupt, cooldown, source and Kickbrain version.

Known limitations

• Players without Kickbrain can't always be tracked exactly, because the game may hide their casts inside instances.
• Stuns and other crowd control also interrupt enemy casts, so an inferred (?) kick can occasionally be credited to the wrong player.
