Keybind Labels
Your keybinds, your labels. Choose exactly what text shows up for each key on your action, pet and stance buttons, and keep using the bar addon you already love.
Every bar addon shortens key names its own way: Mouse Wheel Up turns into WU, MwU or MWU, Numpad 1 into N1, and there's no way to change it. Keybind Labels lets you decide. Make Mouse Wheel Up show ^, Numpad 1 show 1, Shift show as s, or hide a label you don't need.
Features
- A label for any key or combination
- A rule for a key also covers it with modifiers:
MOUSEWHEELUP→^shows Shift + wheel up ass^. - A rule for an exact combination (
SHIFT-MOUSEWHEELUP→S^) takes priority over the plain-key rule. - Leave a label empty to hide it.
- A rule for a key also covers it with modifiers:
- Your own modifier letters for Shift, Ctrl and Alt.
- Plays nicely with your bar addon
- By default, only the keys you made rules for change. Your bar addon keeps labeling everything else.
- Turn on "Use my labels for every key" to apply your style everywhere, with built-in short names (
WU,N1,M4,PU...) for keys you haven't set.
- Press to set: click Set key, then press the key, click the mouse button or roll the wheel. Gamepads and keypads mapped to keys work too.
- Quick start: Add all keys on my bars fills the list with every key you use and its current label, ready to edit.
- Instant: changes apply immediately, with no reload. Delete a rule and your bar addon's own label comes right back.
- Lightweight: only does work when a label is redrawn or your keybinds change, and never touches the keybinds themselves.

- Bartender4
- ElvUI (action bars)

How to use
- Type
/kbl, or open Esc → Options → AddOns → Keybind Labels. - Click Set key and press the key you want to relabel. You can also type a key name, like
MOUSEWHEELUPorNUMPAD1. - Type the label you want and click Add.
That's it, your buttons update immediately.
Tips
- Start with Add all keys on my bars, then just edit what you want to change.
- Plain keyboard characters (
^ v < > * ~ ! #, letters and digits) work in every font. Fancier symbols, like arrows, depend on your action bar font and may show as an empty box.
FAQ
Does this change my keybinds? No. It only changes the text shown on the buttons. Your keybinds stay exactly as they are.
Does it work in combat? Yes. Labels are plain text, so they update in combat without any problems.
I removed a rule, and the label went back to my bar addon's style. Is that right? Yes. Keybind Labels remembers what your bar addon wanted to show, and gives it back when you remove your rule or turn the override off.
Are my settings per character? They're per account, so all your characters share the same labels.
My bar addon isn't listed. Will it work? Maybe. Bar addons built on the standard LibActionButton library usually work. If yours doesn't, let me know which one in the comments.
Known limitations
- ElvUI's separate pet and stance bars aren't relabeled yet. Its action bars are.
