InspectStay

InspectStay is a lightweight quality-of-life addon for World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary.

The default Blizzard inspect window may close when the player changes targets or when the party or raid roster is updated. This can be inconvenient when comparing equipment, checking talents, or inspecting a player while the group is being reorganized.

InspectStay changes this behavior and keeps the standard inspect window available.

Features

- Prevents the Blizzard inspect window from closing when your current target changes.
- Prevents the window from closing during party and raid roster updates.
- Automatically updates the open window when you select another player who can be inspected.
- Tracks the inspected player by GUID and attempts to recover the correct party or raid unit after roster changes.
- Keeps the last displayed inspection information visible if the inspected player becomes temporarily unavailable.
- Uses the original Blizzard inspection interface and does not add or replace any UI elements.
- Does not globally replace `NotifyInspect`, improving compatibility with other addons that request inspection data.
- Can be enabled, disabled, or debugged without reloading the interface.

How it affects gameplay

With InspectStay installed, you can open the standard inspection window and continue using it while changing targets or while players join, leave, or move within your group.

For example:

- You can inspect one player and then select another inspectable player without reopening the window.
- A raid leader can keep an inspection window open while raid groups are being reorganized.
- If the inspected player moves from one raid unit position to another, InspectStay attempts to locate the same character and reconnect the window to the new unit.
- If you lose your target or the player moves out of inspection range, the window remains visible with the information that was already loaded.

The close button and the Escape key continue to work normally. InspectStay only prevents automatic closures caused by target and group roster events.

Commands

- `/inspectstay` or `/is` — show the addon version and current state.
- `/inspectstay on` — enable InspectStay.
- `/inspectstay off` — restore the default Blizzard behavior.
- `/inspectstay debug` — toggle diagnostic chat messages.

Designed for World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary 2.5.6.

InspectStay is intentionally small and has no external dependencies or configuration interface.
