IMAGO

Every NPC has a story. Every zone has a past. Every expansion shaped the world you play in today. IMAGO chronicles them all — unlocked through exploration, written by the community, and experienced right where they belong: inside the game.

Description

IMAGO — Chronicle of the Unforgotten

The world has a story. IMAGO preserves it.

Have you ever ridden past a legendary NPC or stepped into an ancient zone and thought: "Who is this person? What happened here?" WoW has one of the richest worlds ever built, but that history is buried in wikis, novels, and years of questing. Breaking immersion to alt-tab and look things up gets old fast.

IMAGO fixes that. Everything lives inside the game, right where it belongs.

How It Works

IMAGO is built around discovery. Targeting an NPC or setting foot in a new zone for the first time permanently unlocks their entry in your personal chronicle. No grids to fill in manually, no external tools. You play, you explore, the chronicle grows.

When something new is uncovered, a cinematic title card fades in. Clean, immersive, satisfying.

Features

📖 Fates — The NPC Chronicle

The heart of IMAGO. Each discovered NPC gets a full entry with a live 3D model, a hand-written lore summary, and a complete Timeline tracing their role across every expansion they appeared in. Future expansion events are hidden behind spoiler tags so you can read safely without having the story ruined.

Undiscovered characters are hidden behind an elegant fog of war. You can see that someone is out there and roughly where to find them, but nothing more until you actually track them down. A completionist's dream.

Every entry is organized by faction, searchable by name, and filterable through the All Echoes dropdown. Two modes are available: Explorer Mode for the discovery experience and Encyclopedia Mode for unrestricted reading.

Right-clicking an NPC in the world also gives you a direct IMAGO Lore option in the context menu, pulling up their entry instantly without opening the full UI.

🗺️ Zones — The World Chronicle

Every major zone gets its own entry: a full artwork header, a written lore summary, and a list of notable points of interest. Stepping into a zone for the first time triggers a popup with a quick lore snapshot and your current zone discovery progress.

⏳ Eras — The Expansion Chronicle (Coming July 2025)

Twenty years of World of Warcraft history, organized expansion by expansion.

Eras is an upcoming dedicated tab that lets you catch up on the full WoW story without leaving the game. It is built for returning players who missed an expansion, newcomers trying to make sense of the world, and lore fans who just want to read. Each expansion entry will be split across four sub-tabs:

  • Overview gives you the setting, the antagonist, the central conflict, and the key cosmic stakes at a glance, laid out in a clean grid with an expansion banner header and logo.
  • Story walks you through the main narrative beat by beat, one card per zone or questline. NPCs are highlighted inline and link directly to their Fates entry. Each card also has a lore notes button for supplementary content and an artwork button to pull up zone art.
  • Patches covers the same ground for post-launch content updates, with patch version, zone, and full story summary per card.
  • Key Characters spotlights the 5 to 7 most important NPCs of the expansion in a two-column card layout, each with an arc label, a short summary, and a direct link to their Fates entry.

Expansions are unlocked in-game when you encounter a predefined key figure from that era. They will have something to say.

💭 Idle Flashcards

Not in the mood to read through full entries? IMAGO has you covered. Right-clicking the minimap button opens an idle flashcard mode that surfaces historical facts and lore snippets directly in your chat window as you play. Bite-sized context about the world around you, delivered passively.

🏆 The Progress System

Your chronicle has ranks. Starting from Silent Observer and climbing through Collector of Fragments, Scribe of Echoes, Chronicler of the Unforgotten, and beyond, all the way up to Perfected Imago at 100% completion. Progress is tracked at the bottom of every screen with a segmented bar showing exactly where you stand.

🚨 DISCLAIMER: My First Addon! 🚨 IMAGO is the very first WoW addon I have ever created. While hundreds of hours have gone into coding and testing, bugs may still pop up here and there. If you run into any Lua errors or weird behavior, please report them in the comments or on the issue tracker. Your patience means a lot. Thank you!

🤝 Get Involved

IMAGO is a community-driven project. The lore entries are hand-written by volunteers, not pulled from a database. We do our best to keep everything accurate across the game, past titles, and extended media, but we are only human. If something is off, let us know. If you want to contribute, even better.

We are actively looking for passionate players to join the team:

  • ✒️ Lore Scribes — Write, expand, and refine the lore entries.
  • 🕵️ Data Miners — Track down exact NPC IDs and zone locations.
  • 💻 Lua Developers — Help optimize the growing database and UI architecture.
  • 🌍 Translators — Bring existing entries to life in other languages.
