What's new

4.2.6

  • Now marked compatible with WoW Forever (beta client). No feature changes.

4.2.5

  • Fixed the bell icon doing nothing at all for some players. It was only listening for one half of a click (the release), and a real secure action button only fires its macro on whichever half your own "activate action buttons on key press" setting picks. Registered it for both halves now, matching how Hated Company Commander's own ping buttons are set up. Also back to one click: the bell icon targets the player and pings their location together again, since chaining those two wasn't actually the problem after all.

4.2.4

  • Fixed the bell icon pinging the wrong spot for some players instead of landing on the enemy. Caused by the macro trying to target the enemy and fire the ping in the same click - that combination doesn't reliably work in this client even though each half works fine on its own. The bell icon no longer targets on its own; it pings whatever is already your current target, so target the row first (left-click it), then click the bell.

4.2.3

  • Fixed a real layout break from 4.2.2: rows could show a blank/gray row with no name text. Caused by a genuine client rule (not a bug in the icon move idea itself) - a secure button can't anchor to a plain texture, only to another frame. Fixed how the ping icon is positioned; also swapped its icon art for one actually sized for a small icon instead of the big minimap-ping graphic.

4.2.2

  • Moved the ping bell icon next to the range dot (near the start of the row) instead of next to the KOS sword icon at the far end.

4.2.1

  • Corrected 4.2.0's description of ping alerts, which wrongly implied they work inside instances. Hated Who only shows the row list in the open world; inside a dungeon, raid, arena, or battleground it's just a count, same as always, so there's no row (or bell icon) to click there.

4.2.0

  • New: ping alerts. Each row now has a bell icon next to the KOS sword. Click it to target that player and raise a Warning ping right on the minimap and world map.

4.1.0

  • Removed shift-click-to-focus. It still wasn't reliable after two attempts to fix it, and it wasn't worth the added complexity. Right-click a row for the standard menu, which has its own Set Focus option.

4.0.9

  • Fixed shift-click (set as focus) doing nothing, even though 4.0.8 fixed regular click. It was built on a slash command that turns out doesn't actually exist. Shift-click now targets by name, sets focus, then puts your original target back, so it doesn't disturb what you were doing.

4.0.8

  • Fixed click-to-target not doing anything for a lot of rows. Left/shift-click now targets and focuses by exact name (like Hated Kill Targets does), instead of needing the enemy's nameplate to still be on your screen at the exact moment you click. A row that's still listed but whose nameplate scrolled out of view a few seconds ago can now be targeted just fine.

4.0.7

  • Closed the last gap in 4.0.6's crash fix. The login-time fix was correct but only ran once; if you saw the crash again after updating, it needed one more /reload to fully take. The addon now also double-checks your settings every time it redraws, not just at login, so this can't come back regardless of timing.

4.0.6

  • Turned off the Kill/Death win/loss tracking feature for now. Traced it down to a client-side restriction on this build, not a bug in the addon: Blizzard's own combat log tools no longer use the method this feature needs either. It's off by default and the option is disabled with an explanation instead of quietly failing. Everything else is unaffected.
  • Fixed a crash ("bad argument to 'min', number expected, got nil") some players could hit on layout refresh. Caused by a settings profile that predated some of 4.0.0's new options never getting the newer defaults filled in. The addon now double-checks and backfills any missing settings on login.

4.0.5

  • The 4.0.4 fix wasn't quite enough either. Combat log tracking for the win/loss record now only turns on right as combat starts instead of at login, which is what actually resolves it. If it's still blocked on your client for some reason, the addon now notices and quietly turns that one feature off instead of showing an error every fight. Everything else is unaffected either way.

4.0.4

  • Fully fixed the login error from 4.0.3 (it could still happen for combat log tracking specifically). Combat log tracking for the win/loss record now uses its own private event handler instead of sharing one with other addons, so it can't inherit a problem from something else running on your system.

4.0.3

  • Fixed a login error some players hit ("tried to call the protected function... RegisterEvent()", often blamed on an unrelated addon). Caused by other addons sharing the same underlying event library. Startup now runs on its own clean call stack instead of a shared one.

4.0.2

  • Wording cleanup in this changelog, no functional changes.

4.0.1

  • Packaging fix: the project-page description file was accidentally being bundled inside the addon zip. It's now excluded, no functional changes.

Hated Who 4.0.0 - First CurseForge Release

The ultimate open-world spy addon: every enemy player nearby, live health and all, as click-to-target raid-frame-style rows. Inside a dungeon, raid, arena, or battleground it collapses to a single number instead. Your nearby-enemy detector, not another scoreboard.

What's New

Click to target, instantly

  • Every row is a live, secure unit button. No /tar macros needed.
  • Left-Click: target the enemy
  • Shift-Click: set them as your focus
  • Right-Click: the standard Blizzard unit menu (whisper, report, etc.)

Looks like a raid frame, because it basically is one

  • Class-colored, live health bars that fill and update the moment an enemy's nameplate is on your screen
  • Class icon and level on every row
  • A range dot (green/yellow/red) shows melee, nearby, or far at a glance

Kill-On-Sight, done right

  • Click a row's sword icon to add/remove a player. Gets a red border and a distinct alert sound the instant they're seen again.
  • Manage the whole list from the options panel, or /hew kos <Name-Realm>

New: Ignore list

  • Shift-click the sword icon (or /hew ignore <Name-Realm>) to stop tracking a specific player entirely. Handy for guildies who run around in enemy territory.

New: Party/Raid/Guild/Say call-outs

  • Optionally announce spotted enemies (or just your KOS list) to your group, throttled per player so it never spams

New: Win/loss record

  • Quietly tracks your combat-log record against players you've fought. Shows up on their tooltip as "Record vs You".

Everything in one tooltip

  • Guild, race/class/spec (live, via inspect), level, honor level, PvP status, last seen, zone, and encounter count

Sort it your way

  • Most recently seen, name, level, class, Kill-On-Sight first, or nearest range

How to Use It

Command Effect
/hew Toggle the main window
/hew clear Clear all tracked enemies
/hew kos <Name-Realm> Add a player to the Kill-On-Sight list
/hew ignore <Name-Realm> Stop tracking a player entirely
/hew unignore <Name-Realm> Undo the above
/hewdebug Preview 40 fake rows to check layout/colors
/hewclear Alias for /hew clear

Right-click the minimap icon for the full options panel: bar size, font, texture, sort mode, announce channel, and the KOS/Ignore list managers all live there.

Heads Up

  • Live spec detection needs a moment of hovering to fully resolve. Blizzard requires an inspect request to complete first.
  • Party/Raid/Guild call-outs are off by default. Turn them on in Options -> Announce.
