v0.117-beta-forever
What's new
Halls of War — Changelog
v0.117
- Packaging fix: removed developer files from the download. The v0.116 beta zip accidentally bundled internal dev/diagnostic files; the release now contains only the addon itself (
HallsOfWar.lua,HallsOfWar.toc, the Cinzel font + its license, and the LICENSE). No in-game behavior change.
v0.116
- Fixed a kill-attribution bug: when you looted a corpse, the "species backfill" (which names a kill whose creature couldn't be read at the moment of death) could credit the wrong creature or count the same corpse more than once. It's now tied to the looted corpse's own identity -- it credits only that creature, once per corpse, skips a corpse a readable kill already counted, and skips skinning/gather windows. Your total kill count was always correct; this fixes which creature and zone each kill was attributed to.
- Quick guide: the Bestiary and Journal pages no longer say to type
/beastor/journal(retired) -- they point to opening the Hall with/howand using the left nav.
v0.115
- Dev build: the diagnostic chat lines (groupmate-kill-not-credited, raw death log, flood-quarantine) now stay silent unless deep debug is on, so they no longer clutter chat during testing (they never appeared in the shipped build). The in-memory death log and the blocked-action error line are unchanged.
v0.114
- Top-paying creatures: Per-kill toggle label changed from "(min 10)" to "(>=10)".
v0.113
- Top-paying creatures: the Per-kill toggle now reads "Per kill (min 10)" so the 10-kill floor is labeled right on the toggle (replacing the separate note).
v0.112
- Top-paying creatures: each creature now shows its kill count in parentheses (both the Total and Per-kill views), and Per-kill mode shows a small "min 10 kills" note so the ranking floor is clear.
v0.111
- Journal "Top-paying creatures" now has a Total / Per kill toggle. "Total" ranks by all-time gold farmed (volume); "Per kill" ranks by gold per kill (value) and only counts creatures you've killed 10+ times, so a single lucky drop can't crown a barely-killed mob. Both the total and per-kill figures stay visible either way.
v0.110
- Slash commands simplified:
/howis now the one command to open the Hall (then use the left nav to reach any view, including the War Boards). The per-view shortcuts (/beast,/war,/journal,/loot,/professions,/dungeons,/guildboard) have been retired, along with/howguide(the quick guide still opens from its Settings button)./howset,/howintro, and/endrunremain. - The War Boards are no longer referred to as "guild" anywhere in the interface (the board ranks your whole realm, not a guild). The actual guild-chat features are unchanged: "Share with guild" and "Announce my rank-ups in guild chat" still work when you're in a guild.
- Login message tidied: a single line at login (gated by the existing "Show the welcome message" setting) instead of two overlapping lines.
- Note: since the per-view shortcuts were retired, any old action-bar macro that ran
/beast,/war,/journal,/loot,/professions,/dungeonsor/guildboardwill no longer do anything -- remake it to run/how(then use the nav), or drag a fresh one from the Settings > Commands page.
v0.109
- Groundwork for upcoming personal-best screens: the addon now quietly records your longest kill streak (resets when you die), your best session and best day (kills, XP, gold), with the date and zone each was set — stored permanently and never overwritten. No visible change yet; this just makes sure the history exists for when those screens ship.
- Settings: new "Reset settings to defaults" button (with a confirmation). It only restores the on/off options on the Settings page — your chronicle, records and sharing consent are never touched.
- Quiet capture: the addon now records how many of each item you sell to a vendor and for how much (for a per-item vendor-sales view later). Capture-only, no visible change.
- Quiet capture: a per-quest history now records each quest you complete — with the date, zone, XP and gold, and when/where you accepted it — so a quest log and timeline can be shown later. Capture-only; your quest count works exactly as before.
- New quick guide / tour: a short, re-openable 7-page walkthrough (the Hall, War Boards, Bestiary, Journal, sharing & privacy, Settings). Open it from the Quick guide button in Settings or type
/howguide. It never pops up on its own, and the sharing page links straight to your privacy choices. - War Boards hardening: if a single sender floods the addon with messages, it's quietly ignored for the rest of the session (never a ban, nothing deleted), and the count shows in Diagnostics — so a bad actor can't lag your boards.
- Settings: a read-only Diagnostics section shows what the addon is sharing and seeing — sharing state, channels, sends ok/refused (broken down per channel: party/guild/global/Battle.net), how recently each channel last received a peer, whether the global channel joined, how many players are on your boards, and Battle.net friends online — with a Copy to chat button, handy when a friend "isn't showing up" and we need to see why.
v0.108
- Deaths: fixed a single death being counted twice when the game fires its death event more than once — a death now counts exactly once per life (feigns and duplicate events are ignored).
- Sharing is now per character: each character makes its own choice in the welcome popup, so you can share your main and keep an alt private. Existing characters keep their current setting; run
/howintroon any character to switch it to Share or Private. - War Boards: Battle.net players now appear by character name, like everyone else — merging with their realm-board row instead of showing as a separate "Battle.net friend" entry. A sender whose name can't be read is simply ignored, no unstable account id is ever stored, and nothing is deleted (older "Battle.net friend" rows are just no longer shown).
- The hidden sync channel now waits for your General channel before joining, so it can never land in /1.
- War Boards: hovering a column header now explains War Rank (your prestige title, earned from War Score) versus War Level (endless levels past 60) — they are different things.
- War Boards: choosing a board metric (War Level, Gold, Kills, …) now correctly re-ranks the list by it, even if you had clicked a different column first.
- Loot: vendor values now show again — every drop's sell price (and the ledger total) was reading blank; it now displays the real coin value.
- Bestiary: the Hunter's Record now shows your mastery rank for each creature — Familiar → Veteran → Slayer → Nemesis — and how many more kills reach the next rank, not just a bare number.
- War Boards "By Account": a Battle.net friend now shows by name instead of the generic "Battle.net friend".
- War Boards are hardened against flooding: one client can register only a few anonymous ids, so a bad actor can't bloat your saved data.
- When the same friend appears from both chat and Battle.net, the merged row shows their freshest stats (no stale leftovers) — and a Battle.net record can no longer paint someone else's (or your own) row with the wrong class, score or rank.
- Dungeon tracking is more accurate when the client briefly masks the map: two different instances entered back-to-back no longer merge into one run.
v0.102
Big update over the published v0.34 beta. Highlights:
Access & UI
- Halls of War now appears in the top-right Addons menu — click to open the Hall (right-click for Settings), so it's reachable even without the minimap button.
- New setting to hide the minimap button (open from the Addons menu or
/howinstead). - The Hall opens to the Journal on first use (returning users still reopen their last tab).
Sharing & privacy
- First-login welcome that explains what the War Boards share before anything leaves your client — join, keep private, or customize. Re-open it anytime with
/howintro. - A fresh install now pulls the board roster from all online addon users on your realm, not just guildmates, so it fills up right away.
- "Hide my name" (anonymous
c-/a-id) is offered right in the welcome, and the help text is honest that it hides your name on the boards' display only. - Nothing is sent until you make a choice; sharing respects your per-channel toggles.
- New "Show the welcome message at login" setting (on by default) to quiet the one-line Views reminder in chat.
Dungeons
- A clear now requires the dungeon's final boss (or all its bosses) to die — a boss-and-leave no longer counts; the War Boards clear count is accurate.
- Group loot: boss drops distributed by need/greed rolls now register on the boss, and the Loot view shows roll results (your roll, high roll, who won).
- Per-mob drops and gathered materials (skinning, etc.) count the real stack size — looting a stack of 3 records 3, not 1 — so drop and gather counts are accurate.
- Mining or herbing a node right after killing a mob no longer double-counts the node's materials (and chest loot/gold is no longer mis-stamped onto that mob).
- Disenchant and crafting stack counts are read accurately from the loot line.
- Runs survive a reload mid-dungeon (pause/resume), and the "fastest" / gold-per-hour records only come from real clears.
- A full clear is counted even if the instance name is briefly unavailable when you zone in; two un-named dungeons entered back-to-back are tracked as separate runs; a paused run auto-finalizes on time.
- An in-progress run is no longer lost across a reload when your name loads late — it resumes (or banks its first half) once your character is identified.
War Map
- Full-spectrum heat (blue → red), with a World view that works on custom zones.
Group play
- In a group, kills count while you're fighting — a tank or healer gets credit for the group's kills, not only their own killing blows. Your pet's death never counts as a kill.
Player vs player
- Killing blows on enemy players now count even when the client masks the victim, and a death to another player is credited to that player — not to the last creature you were fighting.
- A groupmate's killing blow on an enemy player is no longer counted as your own killing blow.
Reliability
- Robust against WoW: Forever's hidden (secret) values — your character, kills, bosses and loot keep tracking even when names/GUIDs are masked.
- Your data is never deleted: destructive actions archive first (never-wipe).
- Fixed Bestiary crash at 1,000+ kills; large numbers abbreviate (12.3k / 1.2m) with the exact value on hover.
- Roll stats (your roll / high roll) stay accurate after your name resolves at login — no more impossible above-100 values — and another player can't spoof your account's board row.
- More non-English support: kill XP (and the XP-by-source split) and honorable kills now track on localized clients, derived from the game's own text (were English-only).
v0.85 - v0.101
Interim builds between the v0.34 beta and the v0.102 update (most were folded into v0.102; summarized here so the history is complete).
Access & UI
- Added the top-right Addons-menu entry and a setting to hide the minimap button, so the Hall is reachable without it (v0.90).
- Added a launch button on the character window and reworked the character tab to use the client's own right-column tab system so it reliably shows (v0.91-v0.98).
- New Launch buttons settings section to turn each entry point on or off (v0.96).
- The Hall opens to the Journal on first use; the boards pull the realm roster from the global channel on first open (v0.89).
War Boards & sharing
- Battle.net players show by their character name instead of an internal id, and that internal id no longer leaks into the board display (v0.93, v0.99).
- A player seen from both chat and Battle.net merges into one board row instead of two (v0.100).
- Battle.net rows are keyed by a forge-proof account id (not the sent name), and the boards pull peers right after you opt in to sharing (v0.100-v0.101).
Tracking & reliability
- Dungeon run tracking hardened: two instances entered back-to-back no longer merge, a brief map mask no longer splits a run, and an in-progress run is restored after a reload/login even while your name is briefly masked (v0.85-v0.86).
- XP-by-source, honorable kills and duels track correctly on non-English clients (v0.87-v0.88).
v0.34
- Professions now read authoritatively from your Skills (K) window — a profession shows only if you actually have it (no more phantom Mining/Herbalism from looted chests; Skinning now appears).
- Locale-proof material and loot capture (numeric item class/subclass; create/receive messages derived from the client's own strings).
- Anonymous sharing option: broadcast a random
c-/a-id instead of your name. - Settings redesigned: grouped, wiki-style descriptions with example clips; movable window.
- War Map gathering split by profession (Mining/Herbalism/Skinning); zero-value zones hidden per metric.
- Dungeon map fix (shows the dungeon's own map, not your current zone).
- Developer/diagnostic commands stripped from release builds.
