Guild Chat Nickname
Let your guild know who you are – no matter which alt you're playing.
Guild Chat Nickname adds your nickname (or main character name) in front of your guild chat messages. It's part of the message itself, so every guild member sees it – even without the addon.
[Guild] Altcharacter: (NAME): Hello everyone!
Perfect for guilds full of alts, twinks and new members who wonder who's behind which character.
Features
Your nickname in guild chat
- Automatically adds your nickname / main name to your guild messages
- One nickname for all your characters (account-wide)
- Only in guild chat – party, raid and whispers stay untouched
Guild chat notification sound
- Plays a sound when someone writes in guild chat – never miss a message while alt-tabbed
- Choose from multiple sounds with preview
- Supports LibSharedMedia sounds
- Optional spam protection
- Option to play the sound even when sound effects are muted
- No sound for your own messages
Guild notes as names
- Members without the addon? Their public guild note is shown as their name – ideal if your guild stores main names in guild notes
- Only visible to you
Midnight-ready – no Lua errors
Since Midnight, Blizzard locks chat for addons during boss encounters and Mythic+ runs. Many chat addons throw Lua errors there.
Guild Chat Nickname detects this and pauses silently:
- During Mythic+ runs, raid boss encounters and combat in instances
- Optional: pause during all combat, also in the open world
- Resumes automatically afterwards
Guild messages from others are always shown normally.
Commands
- `/gcn` or `/gnick` – open settings (also in Options → AddOns)
- `/gcn name <nickname>` – set your nickname
- `/gcn status` – shows whether the addon is active or paused
- `/gcn debug` – debug output for bug reports
