FreebirdWings is a lightweight addon that plays a custom audio clip whenever you cast Avenging Wrath (Paladin “Wings”).
What it does (features)
-
Wings trigger detection: Automatically detects when you cast Avenging Wrath and plays a sound immediately.
-
Custom audio support: Uses audio files stored inside the addon folder (no external apps or accounts required).
-
Two-track mode (optional): Supports playing one of two audio clips on Wings (for variety).
-
Failsafe behavior: If one sound file fails to play (missing/unsupported), the addon can fall back to the other.
-
Low overhead: No UI frames, no configuration panels—just a single event listener.
How it changes gameplay / player experience
This addon doesn’t change your rotation or combat performance directly—it adds instant feedback and hype when you press a major cooldown.
Examples:
-
Use a short “GO TIME” sound cue so you never miss your Wings activation.
-
Use meme/hype audio (like a guitar lick or EDM drop you provide) to make cooldowns more fun.
-
Great for streaming, arena, or raids when you want a clear audible signal that Wings is active.
Installation
-
Download and unzip.
-
Place the folder in:
World of Warcraft/<your_version>/Interface/AddOns/FreebirdWings -
Ensure the folder contains:
-
FreebirdWings.toc -
FreebirdWings.lua -
Your sound file(s), e.g.
freebirdidiot.oggand/orfreebirdlit.ogg
-
-
Restart the game and enable the addon from the character select AddOns menu.
Sound file requirements
-
Recommended format: OGG Vorbis
-
Keep filenames simple (letters/numbers, no special characters).
-
If a sound doesn’t play, re-encode it as OGG Vorbis (some tools output Opus even though it says “.ogg”).
Notes / Legal
This addon does not include copyrighted music. If you want music or clips, you must provide your own audio files and ensure you have the rights to use them.
Compatibility
Designed for Classic-era / TBC-style clients. If your client shows it as “Out of date,” enable Load out of date AddOns.
