ForeverDuelersGuild

ForeverDuelersGuild adds opt-in rated duels to WoW: Forever, with leveling/max-level ratings, opponent search, and match history.

ForeverDuelersGuild

Local rated 1v1 duels for WoW: Forever.

Beta 0.6.1 for Forever 1.60.1 (interface 16001). Both players need 0.6.0 or newer: it cannot rate duels against older versions. Against 0.4.5, the previous CurseForge version, it says so in chat and keeps the duel ordinary. Compatibility with other WoW clients is not established.

Challenge another player to an ordinary duel as usual. If both of you run the addon, each of you can choose Rated, and the duel counts only when both do. Results that both clients confirm update your character's rating and match history. Ordinary duels stay available.

Find other players

Join your faction's in-game community ForeverDuelersGuild. Type /duelrating community join and click the link the addon prints in your chat; the game's Communities window opens and asks you to confirm. The addon cannot join for you and never posts, invites or joins in the community; it only reads the member list to find addon users across the whole realm. Without the community it finds only players near you and those who share the ForeverDuel chat channel with you, which does not connect the whole realm.

The Horde and the Alliance each have their own community. Characters that are not members also see the link once per login (/duelrating community hint off hides it). Any character can use another character community instead with /duelrating community <name>.

Features

  • Rated duels through the normal Duel action or /duel (with a name or on your target). Once the opponent's addon answers, a panel offers the rated choice. Blizzard's duel popup stays as it is, and its Accept starts an ordinary duel. When both players have chosen Rated, the receiver's addon accepts the duel. At the countdown, chat says whether the duel is rated and how many points a win or a loss moves, or why it stays unrated.
  • Players in zone (/duelrating zone): addon users discovered on your current map, with name search, class filter, rating window (All, +/-100, +/-200, +/-400), a rated-eligible filter, sorting by name, highest or closest rating, and a Duel button.
  • Rated duel queue (/duelrating queue): choose the search reach (Zone, Continent or Whole ruleset) and a maximum level difference (0-5). Matches need the same faction, ruleset (detected automatically), level cap and rating mode. The accepted rating gap starts at +/-100 and widens to +/-200 after 2 minutes and +/-400 after 5 minutes of waiting. Matches use only meeting places both players have saved (see below).
  • Separate Leveling and Max level ratings, each with wins, losses, win rate, best rating and current streak; a progression chart of the latest 40 duels per mode; paged match history with opponent, levels, class, result, duration and rating change.
  • A draggable minimap button opens the overview. Unit tooltips show the rating of discovered addon users.
  • English and German texts.

Rated rules

Both players need the same level cap and rating mode and at most 5 levels difference. Leveling applies below the cap, Max level at the cap. With a cap of 60, levels 30 and 35 are eligible; 30 and 36 are not, and 59 versus 60 stays unrated because the modes differ.

Each mode starts at 1500; reaching max level does not carry your leveling rating over. Elo uses K=32 and adds 20 points of effective strength per level when calculating the expected outcome. With equal ratings and levels, a win moves 16 points. With equal ratings and a five-level gap, a lower-level winner gains 20 and a higher-level winner gains 12. The loser loses the same amount.

Both players must choose Rated, in either order, within the game's 50-second duel request. Rated cannot be chosen while you are in combat, and entering combat during the request makes the duel unrated. Closing the rated panel keeps the duel ordinary. A result counts only when both clients see the same winner. Ordinary 1v1 duels only: a Hardcore duel to the death is never rated.

Queue and meeting places

The queue only sends you to tested meeting places that both players have saved. So it can only pair you with players who have saved the same place, usually someone you have already dueled at that spot; players without a shared place are not matched. To save a place, finish an ordinary duel by knockout at a safe outdoor spot that is not hostile territory for your faction. Then both of you leave any group and stay out of combat within 40 yards of the spot, and one of you clicks Save tested place in the queue window within five minutes. The partner's client then confirms the place and saves it too.

When two players match, one of them sends a group invitation (the queue window's auto-accept option or /duelrating queue autoaccept on is meant to accept it for you), both travel to a shared place within a 5-15 minute limit, and the inviter clicks Request duel. Both players still choose Rated. A cancelled queue match never changes ratings; a player who misses the arrival time cannot queue for two minutes.

You can join the queue only alone (not in a group), alive and outdoors in the open world. Every cancellation tells you why. After a technical problem you are put back in the queue with your waiting time kept. If you decline the group invitation, you keep searching but are not paired with that player for two minutes; if you let it expire, you leave the queue. After the match the queue leaves the group it created, never a group you formed yourself, and offers a Leave group button for a leftover queue group.

Getting started

1. Extract the ForeverDuel folder into your client's Interface/AddOns directory. The manifest must be at Interface/AddOns/ForeverDuel/ForeverDuel.toc, without an extra nested folder. The folder keeps the name ForeverDuel for update compatibility.
2. Restart the game completely after installing or updating: 0.6.0 adds new files that /reload does not load.
3. Horde: type /duelrating community join and click the link.
4. Challenge through the normal Duel action or the Duel button in /duelrating zone, then both choose Rated.

Commands (/duelrating help lists all):

  • /duelrating: open or close the overview (also the minimap button).
  • /duelrating zone: players in your zone.
  • /duelrating queue: the queue window; queue join, leave, status, autoaccept on|off, help.
  • /duelrating community: community status; community join prints the join link; community <name> uses another character community; community hint off|on; community off|on turns the community directory off or on.
  • /duelrating summary: your ratings and five recent results of your current mode. /duelrating history: up to 20 recent rated duels of your current mode.
  • /duelrating quiet: turn quiet mode on or off (no discovery traffic).
  • /duelrating ping [name]: addon message round trip to your target or a named player.
  • /duelrating status, diagnose, errors: current state, saved diagnostics and saved addon errors for bug reports.
  • /duelrating reset: delete this character's rating and history (asks for confirmation). /duelrating repair: start fresh when saved data cannot be read (keeps a copy).

Upgrading and test status

Back up WTF/Account/<account>/<realm>/<character>/SavedVariables/ForeverDuel.lua before upgrading: once 0.6.0 has recorded a rated duel, 0.4.5 can no longer load that file, so the backup is your way back. Ratings and history from 0.4.x load unchanged; data from before 0.4.0 stays in a read-only Legacy archive, and both new ratings start at 1500. If the saved data belongs to an earlier character with the same name (for example after a Hardcore death), it is archived and the new character starts fresh. Your duel partners need 0.6.0 as well. Players still on 0.4.5 can appear in your zone list, but you cannot rate against them and the queue does not find them.

On October 6, 2026, the project owner reported that 0.6.0 works with two Horde characters on Forever: zone discovery in both directions, the community directory and its join link, finding each other through the queue across zones, and a rated duel (challenge, accept and the result on both clients). This is a general report, not a full test protocol; anything not named here, for example Alliance play, queue auto-accept or the trip to a queue meeting place, was not separately confirmed.

Known limits:

  • The game sometimes delivers addon whispers late (delays of more than 30 seconds have been seen), which can leave a request unrated; the chat then says the messages are delayed.
  • If the last result message is lost, one client can record a duel the other does not.
  • Results are read from the game's localized duel messages; clients whose messages contain grammar codes (for example Korean or Russian) may stay unrated.

Local data and discovery

Ratings and history are stored per character in your SavedVariables. There is no server, account or upload, and players can edit their local data, so ratings are self-reported and not authoritative competition results.

Unless quiet mode is on, the addon joins the ForeverDuel chat channel and exchanges profiles (character GUID, rating, class, level, level cap and map ID) through hidden addon whispers and channel posts. It asks for profiles only on demand:

  • Zone window open: your target or mouseover, visible players of your faction (show friendly nameplates so the addon can see them), all ForeverDuel channel members, and online community members of your faction in your zone.
  • Queue searching: all channel members, plus online community members of your faction (only those in your zone with Zone reach, all of them with Continent or Whole ruleset reach).
  • Hovering over a player of your faction asks that player.

Queries carry your map; replies to players who are not near you, not your queue partner and not on your map leave your map out.

Your profile is posted to the channel once after joining and every 60 seconds while the zone window is open or the queue searches. While other addon users' channel posts reach you, it is also posted every 60 seconds and after each change of map, rating or level (at most every 30 seconds), even with the window closed. Without a working channel, such a change is whispered to addon users you recently exchanged profiles with.

While searching, the queue whispers your GUID, rating, level, faction, ruleset, search settings, map, continent, position (whole yards) and tested-place hashes to the addon users discovery found; with Continent or Whole ruleset reach this includes every community member of your faction who answers. During a match only your opponent gets your position. Rated duel messages go only to your opponent.

The community member list stays in memory and is never saved. While the zone window is open or the queue searches, the addon also asks the game for the community's online status, as the Communities window does (a local setting; nothing is sent to other players).

/duelrating quiet stops all discovery and channel traffic. Rated duels, ping and the queue keep working; the queue then only contacts players already discovered. Diagnostics stay on your computer and contain opponents' names and GUIDs, never message contents or positions.

The zone list shows recently discovered addon users on your map. It is not a complete roster, and the same map does not guarantee the same phase or duel range.

Roadmap to 1.0

For the planned 1.0 release, we aim to add a backend for shared match records and centrally managed ratings, together with an online ladder and leaderboards. This is a plan, not part of this release: 0.6.1 uses local character data only, and scope and timing may change.

Branding: original AI-generated crossed swords; not an in-game screenshot.
